One of the coolest features in patch 4.3 was the introduction of the Darkmoon Faire Island, a brand new, self-contained island packed with new games, pets, mounts, prizes, and everything Silas Darkmoon and his merry band of carnies and personalities can muster for your enjoyment. Players earn tickets from completing games, bringing in Darkmoon artifacts from dungeons, PvP, and raids and from doing profession quests. Many players (myself included) were confused as to how many tickets players could earn each week, considering there is so much we want to buy and so many tickets needed to save up for it all. Bashiok has put together a great forum post that outlines just how many tickets you can get per month. Bashiok's post clearly points out that the max number of tickets a player can get during each Darkmoon Island week is 145 tickets. The only issue is that a mount from the Darkmoon Faire costs 180 tickets, so players will have to wait until the next Darkmoon Island opens to claim their first mount reward. Now that the number of tickets is spelled out, it doesn't actually seem as bad as I originally thought it was going to be. However, the weird thing that still permeates all of this is why playing the games at the Faire, the real focus of the island, rewards players with the lowest amount of tickets. The random Darkmoon artifacts that you get as drops from PvP, dungeons, and raids give substantially more in terms of tickets than the games themselves; the random pickups or Auction House items eclipse the daily games in terms of rewards. I really like the new Faire and hope that the prize ticket changes for the games can be upped to reflect their focus. Hit the jump to read Bashiok's breakdown of Darkmoon Faire tickets.

Convention-goers, start your engines. PAX East 2012 tickets are now on sale, and if you're planning on attending, you better get movin'. Single-day tickets should last for at least a little while, but three-day tickets are always the first to go. Do take note that the convention does fall on Easter weekend this year, so if you've got plans for the holiday, you better start planning your excuse. And remember, this year's PAX Prime saw extreme numbers of fake badges being sold at the sold-out convention, so if you want to be sure to escape the scammers, buy your ticket early so you don't have to rely on scalpers later. To get your tickets, head on over to the PAX East official site.

  • Breakfast Topic: The new Darkmoon Faire

In case you missed it, Blizzard has unveiled the new and improved Darkmoon Faire that will be coming to Azeroth in patch 4.3. The Darkmoon Faire will occupy an entire island and be filled to the brim with new quests, rewards, fun novelty items, and even a brand new, free-for-all PVP arena in the same vein as the Gurubashi Arena. The changes are massive, turning the Darkmoon Faire into a whole new experience for players. There are so many features coming with the new Faire that it's hard to choose the coolest one. So that's what we should talk about this morning. What is your favorite feature coming with the new Darkmoon Faire? Is it the ability to purchase old vanity armor sets that are difficult to obtain or just don't exist anymore? What about the ability to gain five skill points in all of your professions per week while the Faire is in town? Are you a questaholic, excited to complete all of the new quests and storylines that the Faire will provide? How about collecting Darkmoon Artifacts, found all over the world, in order to earn prizes, rewards, and more?

The Darkmoon Faire is getting a full-on revamp in the upcoming patch 4.3 update to Cataclysm, giving the Faire its own island secretly hidden away within the mists. The old ticket system from the Faire of yesteryear is being replaced with new quests, new games to play for tickets, and more. From the preview, we can expect a fez-wearing monkey companion pet, new toys and balloons, more heirlooms, fun souvenirs, and replica sets of long-lost armor that have been removed from the game or are extremely hard to get. New achievements and titles are also coming. This is a huge content update to the Darkmoon Faire. From the preview, this appears to be the Molten Front of the Darkmoon Faire, a huge, fun questing and game experience that involves fun toys, games, and more. Games include Whack-a-Gnoll, Tonk Battle Royale, the ominious-sounding Cannon, a ring toss game, a shooting gallery, and more to be announced. A new Gurubashi Arena-style free-for-all PVP arena called the Darkmoon Deathmatch will be introduced, as well. One of the most interesting parts of the new Darkmoon Faire is that you will be able to gain experience, prize tickets, and skill points for your professions -- up to five skills points per profession per Faire week. If you've been struggling with those last few points in a profession or want to level up alts' professions without spending too much on the Auction House, the first week of each month at the Faire opens up some new options.

Blizzard's annual charity dinner benefiting the Children's Hospital of Orange County happens in tandem with BlizzCon, the festival for all things Blizzard. This special benefit dinner, hosted at the Anaheim Hilton hotel, is limited to about 200 tickets and includes dinner with various Blizzard developers, artists, executives, and people from various levels of corporate life, as well as a signed Blizzard print and a ticket to BlizzCon, goodie bag included. Each benefit ticket costs $500 and is limited to two per household. Tickets go on sale Saturday, May 28 at 10 a.m. Pacific time (1 p.m. Eastern). The ticket proceeds go to a wonderful cause, so if you love Blizzard and love helping people, this event is a great way to have fun while giving to a good cause. Also, from the people who I know who have gone to the benefit dinner in the past, everyone says it is an amazing and joyous time.

  • Reminder: Final round of BlizzCon 2011 tickets on sale tonight

    05.25.2011

The second round of BlizzCon 2011 tickets are going on sale this evening in just a few hours at 10pm EDT / 7pm PDT. The first round went down last Saturday morning as planned, and tickets sold out in just a matter of minutes (technically, the queue for ticket sales was filled in less than a second). This demand is extra surprising, especially considering that ticket prices to the annual Irvine, CA-based fan convention went up this year to $175 a piece. Still, if you want to try your hand at Blizzard Entertainment's least fun game ever and attempt to buy some tickets of your own, you can join the party on the Blizzard store website later on this evening. Good luck to everyone; may your F5 skills be strong.

If you missed out on picking up a ticket to one of the hottest events of the year, then your last chance is coming up tonight. A second batch of BlizzCon tickets is set to go on sale at 10:00 p.m. EDT (7:00 p.m. PDT) later today for the high, high price of $175 a pop. Each ticket not only gets you into the two-day convention (October 21-22, 2011 in Anaheim, CA) but includes a goody bag and the option to purchase limited-time BlizzCon merchandise before the show. Once the tickets go on sale tonight, you'll have minutes -- an hour at most -- to head over to the BlizzCon website and place your order. Blizzard is limiting you to only four per household, so if you have a group of friends who want to come, they'll need to coordinate their purchases as well! This is the sixth BlizzCon since the event started in 2005. Last year's BlizzCon admitted over 27,000 fans to the shindig.

  • Second batch of BlizzCon tickets on sale Wednesday, May 25

Here's a quick reminder for everyone trying for BlizzCon 2011 tickets again -- the second batch of tickets is going on sale Wednesday, May 25 at 7 p.m. Pacific, 10 p.m. Eastern. The first batch of tickets sold out in seconds -- but unlike other years, not many problems were reported, and things went surprisingly smoothly. To purchase tickets, you'll need to go to Blizzard's BlizzCon tickets page. This is the page you are going to want to refresh constantly in order to purchase passes. Tickets sell out in literally seconds, so be quick with refreshing and clicking purchase. Once you click purchase, you'll be placed into a queue where you will wait for your chance to purchase tickets. If you are one of the lucky few, you'll be brought immediately to the purchase page. Tickets cost $175 each and are limited to four tickets per household/address. Here are some tips when attempting to purchase BlizzCon tickets: Log into your Battle.net account prior to going to the ticket page. The ticket queue will reach critical mass in seconds -- you need to refresh quickly and often. Start refreshing prior to the exact moment tickets go on sale. Everyone's clocks are different. Also, remember that the ticket information for each ticket you bought needs to be filled out and completed by June 10 at 8 p.m. Pacific time. If you need to change the information later than that date, check the BlizzCon tickets badge information page.

  • BlizzCon 2011: Round one of ticket sales are sold out

The first round of tickets for BlizzCon 2011 is sold out. Would-be convention-goers snagged up the tickets quickly, as predicted, and queues reached into the 12,000-15,000 range. BlizzCon tickets will go on sale once more on Wednesday, May 25, at 7 p.m. PST (10 p.m. EST). Here are some fun BlizzCon ticket facts: Based on queue positions when tickets sold out, likely less than 4,000 total transactions were completed. The WoW Insider staff all clicked to buy our tickets at nearly the exact same second. Some of us didn't get a queue. Others ended up 13,000 deep. Whether or not you're getting a BlizzCon ticket today was a matter of one single second. Did you get the number of tickets you needed? Are you ready for BlizzCon? I got my tickets, and cannot wait to see everyone in October at the annual WoW Insider reader meetup party.

  • PSA: PAX Prime passes dwindling, only Friday and Sunday tickets left

    by

    05.17.2011

PAX Prime 2011 organizers announced earlier today through Twitter that there were only 400 passes left for Friday access to the event. The 3-day and Saturday passes have already been tapped, while "a battery" of Sunday passes are still available -- the remaining one-day passes ($35 apiece) must be purchased through the official PAX site. Penny Arcade marketing maestro Robert Khoo tells us that they've been given the green light to sell about 10 percent more badges than in prior years. It would appear that PAX East, despite welcoming 69,500 attendees in March, did not diminish interest in the Seattle show. At the current rate of ticket sales, the organizers guesstimate that PAX Prime passes will be completely sold out three months before the August 26–28 event takes place.

Guys, we so desperately want to hang out with you in Seattle. We want to take you on a tour of our favorite Starbucks locations. We want to go to the top of the Space Needle with you, and point out our favorite Starbucks locations. We want to take you to the birthplace of grunge and flannel -- but we can't do that if you don't get a PAX Prime 2011 pass. According to the event's Twitter feed, PAX passes are quickly becoming a scarce commodity -- in a tweet this morning, organizers reported, "We are nearly out of 3 day passes for PAX Prime 2011, less than 1k remain." Sure, if those are gone, you can still buy the one-day passes piecemeal; but we're really going to need all 72 hours to show you our favorite Seattle hotspots. Like the Puget Sound! It's so pugety this time of year.

Blizzard has announced via the BlizzCon site that tickets for BlizzCon 2011 will be available for purchase in two batches: once on May 21 at 10 a.m. Pacific time, and a second time on May 25 at 7 p.m. Pacific time. The price has increased (again) to $175 per ticket. Virtual tickets will be available for $39.95, the same as last year. Those wishing to attend the charity dinner can do so by purchasing the $500 ticket at Saturday, May 28 at 10 a.m. Pacific time. [EDIT: May 25th ticket sales start at 7 p.m. PT, not 7 a.m. PT.]

  • Gamescom 2011 advance tickets on sale now

    03.22.2011

Advanced ticket sales for the upcoming Gamescom 2011 convention in Cologne, Germany are now on sale, so if you're planning to be in the area then (or have the money and time to flit over to the continent whenever you want -- lucky duck), you can see the sights for just a few Euros. The cheapest day passes, at just €6 ($9), are for students and senior citizens, while standard passes are around €10-15 ($14-21). Note that these tickets are for the public -- they'll let you in the "entertainment area" of the show, but the business side of the event is only for trade and media attendees. But that's no problem. You can still go over there and have yourself a big ol' partyzeit anyway. The convention kicks off on August 17, 2011.

  • Live Nation releases free app

    by

    12.03.2010

Ticket seller Live Nation has released its very own iOS app on the App Store -- you can download it for free there right now. Not only can you browse upcoming events and buy tickets to shows directly from within the app (as well as get news about presales and upcoming deals on tickets), but once you go to a show in person, you can pick up setlist information, see photos and videos and check-in with friends through social networks. Personally, I have kind of an issue with Live Nation, given its rocky past with Clear Channel Communications and Ticketmaster, so I can't really recommend the app just to buy tickets with. The company's never really been generous to customers, to say the least, taking advantage of high ticket fees and the artists that it works with. If there's an alternative way to buy your tickets, either from the venue itself or from the artists involved, it'll probably be cheaper than Live Nation, and better for the industry at large. But they are a huge company with a lot of partnerships going, and quite a few shows nowadays (if not all of the big venue shows) are sold through Live Nation. So if you're planning to buy tickets with them anyway -- and sometimes you don't have a choice -- using the app will give you some nice bonuses.

Update: Apparently, the PAX ticketing site was displaying the sold out message due to a glitch. Three-day badges are still available for $55 for the time being. We apologize for the confusion. Previous post: Looking for a sign that you've been hesitating too long to register for PAX Prime? The event's stockpile of $55 three-day badges are now sold out, leaving only $35 single-day passes for all you slowpokes. If you're going, you better act fast -- these things have a tendency to sell like hotcakes.

Today's Saturday, June 5th, and that means it's day two of BlizzCon ticket sales! If you have some way of increasing your Luck stat in the next hour, I'd go ahead and do it. Complain about how expensive tickets are, how rogues are overpowered, and how Ghostcrawler has no choice but to walk out on a horse swinging a sword like a general over in our open thread. We'll update this post with queue lengths and ticket status information as warranted. Update: 1:00 PM EST - Tickets are on sale. Update: 1:01 PM EST - Within 60 seconds, the queue is at 20000. The second and final group of tickets for BlizzCon 2010 will go on sale at 1PM EDT (10 AM PDT) on the event's official website and the Blizzard store for $150 a pop. Seeing as how the ticket queue for the last round of sales jumped from zero to 20,000 in two minutes, you'll want to be as prepared as humanly possible if you want to acquire an entry pass. Blizzard has just announced when it will open up the rattling floodgates for BlizzCon 2010 ticket sales. Passes to the event will be sold in two separate chunks on Wednesday, June 2 at 7 p.m. PST and Saturday, June 5 at 10 a.m. PST. Folks interested in attending the Anaheim-based event will have to pony up a $150 entry fee. Given their proclivity for purchasing imaginary horses, we don't think diehard Blizzard fans have any qualms about parting with their hard-earned cash. Remember, these things have a tendency to sell out moments after they go on sale, so we suggest you start tightening up your F5 finger's reflexes.

Once again, the ludological troubadours of Video Games Live will take time out of their busy schedules to visit their orchestral brand of rocking upon attendees of the Electronic Entertainment Expo on Thursday, June 17. Tickets are now available for purchase, with prices ranging between $24.99 and $74.99 (for the nosebleeds and the court-sides, respectively.) You don't have to be an E3 attendee to gain access to the show -- but if you're in L.A. that week, why wouldn't you go check out all those piping hot new games? Come on, now. You're being ridiculous.
