  • Russian-Georgia conflict predicted by Ghost Recon

Tom Clancy might be this generation's Nostradamus. Although off by about three months, the first level in 2001's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon is eerily familiar to the past week's events, where Russia and South Ossetian rebels have been fighting with Georgia. Unlike Ghost Recon, however, there has been no signs of US special forces armed with technologically advanced firepower and controlled by a mysterious "player."Scholars are already sifting through The Great Texts in anticipation of any potential conflicts in 2014 Mexico City.[Via Game Politics]

"Attack the enemy base!""Yes sir, I'll enter a foot race.""No, launch the missiles!""We'll harvest all nearby thistles.""Attack the enemy units. Please, listen to me.""Downloading latest DLC.""Oh ... just forget it."This doesn't happen in Tom Clancy's EndWar. It may be a sad comment on the history of in-game voice commands, but the best compliment one can give to Ubisoft's robust interface is that it works. There's no need to plead with it in a robotic tone or a slowed pace, and no voice training is required beforehand. Despite slipping in an "uh" here and there while contemplating orders, EndWar understood everything we said. Well, everything aside from the muttered curses prompted by our utter defeat.%Gallery-28196%

While screaming commands into a headset Joystiq found a moment to extrapolate release information from UbiSoft for the upcoming RTS, Tom Clancy's EndWar. According to the rep EndWar will ship on October 14 in Europe and North America. What? Not familiar with Tom Clancy's EndWar? The upcoming real-time strategy game includes a voice-control option where players can issue commands through a headset rather than use traditional button presses (which you can also use).

While barking orders into a headset and commanding our tanks to ineffectually annihilate agitate the enemy army, we received some release date intel for upcoming tanks-go-here-helicopters-go-there skirmish, Tom Clancy's EndWar. According to Ubisoft, the console-oriented, real-time strategy game will march onto shelves in the US and Europe on October 14th. It'll launch on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 first, followed by PSP and DS versions at a later stage. During the Ubisoft Press Conference, Ubisoft America president Laurent Detoc discussed the future of the Tom Clancy franchise. Citing the recent acquisition of Hybride, the CGI studio behind such films as 300 and Sin City, Detoc stated the future of the Tom Clancy franchise is more than games. Considering Ubisoft owns the Tom Clancy license Detoc says books and television are possibilities. Film is not mentioned but Ubisoft has mentioned the power of movies in the past so we expect it is high on their list of possibilities.Detoc also reminded conference viewers that this is the tenth anniversary of Tom Clancy, which has sold 55 million combined units.More as the conference progresses.

In case your appetite for voice-controlled strategizing hasn't been whetted enough by the bountiful beta leaks, an Ubisoft Forum Manager has announced that you can get "access to the exclusive Stress Test" (i.e. early playtime) for Tom Clancy's End War by pre-ordering the game at participating retailers. More details are said to be forthcoming; a stress test registration page has been unearthed on the End War website that lists July 8 as the opening day.[Via Damngamer]

Update: Descending upon the footage with ninja swiftness (we assume) the video leak of EndWar has been pulled. With the beta ending in a few days we recommend that anyone attempting to do it again just let bygones be bygones and wait for some new, non-NDA footage. Or at least don't mention us 'cuz we think you're crazy!A few weeks ago we reported an EndWar beta tester leaked footage of the upcoming Tom Clancy RTS title -- non-disclosure agreement be damned. While reactions to our report of the leak were mixed, Ubisoft ended the controversy by putting the kibosh on the video. A little over an hour ago the same tester took it upon himself to upload a new clip of the beta -- which ends on July 7 -- taking our joking advice to "get a capture card, buddy."While we don't condone the action or recommend that anyone leak footage of anything under NDA, we chuckled when our name came up. At least we know someone listens to the dog and pony show that is the Xbox 360 Fancast. Also to give credit where it's due, it was our commander-in-chief (Rich) who threw out the capture card recommendation. Check out the footage above, before Ubisoft sends out the lawyer-ninjas.[Thanks, Keller]

Ubisoft recently released a video explaining some of the major changes included in their upcoming free expansion to Rainbow Six Vegas 2, and we think it's a fairly safe bet that fans will be pleased. Included in said trailer is a look at the much-requested additions that should make Call of Duty 4 feel sincerely flattered, such as the new grenade indicator and post-elite ranks, as well as the three "new" (see: re-lit and re-textured) maps which will also be made available. Also included are details concerning the new "High Stakes" mode, where health regeneration will be disabled, and where players will amass extra experience points by verbally disparaging the skills of their Low Stakes brethren. We can't wait!

Feeling down because you weren't selected to participate in Ubisoft's closed beta of Tom Clancy's EndWar? Well, pucker up soldier! Today Ubisoft has released more beta codes to gamers who have yet to hear back regarding the test, which ends on July 7. Still shrouded behind a curtain of NDA mystery, the RTS console title began initial online testing of its multiple modes and three multiplayer maps on June 17 with a rumored 15,000 players. No word on whether Ubisoft plans to release a third wave of codes for the beta or if the NDA will lift prior to the end of the test. Tom Clancy's EndWar is scheduled to release fall.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Update 2: Ubisoft's lawyer-ninjas have swooped in and taken care of the video leakage. Nothing to see here folks.Update: We probably didn't make it clear that this leaked Endwar beta video isn't our original work and was actually sent to us as a tip. We just figured we'd pass it along. Never would we intentionally break an NDA agreement, especially one enacted by Ubisoft and their well paid lawyers. Sit back, watch and marvel at what enjoyment a broken non-disclosure agreement (NDA) can bring with the embedded video above. Yup, it's a ten minute introductory video (off-screen, but we can deal) of what Tom Clancy's Endwar is all about. It's the definitive Endwar beta experience that non-beta participates always wanted! Enough talky, more watchy ...[Thanks, Derka]

As clocks struck midnight around the globe, Ubisoft began turning on servers and releasing beta keys for its upcoming console RTS Tom Clancy's EndWar. Due to the staggered release of keys for the small beta (speculation is only 15,000 testers were selected) some of the testers were quick to proclaim the release a disaster; as it turns out Ubisoft was intentionally releasing the beta in waves throughout the evening and early morning.Tom Clancy's EndWar Beta, which clocks in at a sizable 2.98GB, gives players the chance to play through one of three planned online modes in 1v1 or 2v2 matches and is planned to run until July 7.

  • Ubisoft wants to up its game: be on par with EA, Activision Blizzard

With "bigger and better" becoming a mantra of sorts for modern game design, it seems only logical for the developers and publishers of our favorite blockbusters to expand their operations in tandem with their goals. Speaking to Develop, Ubisoft head of global development, Christine Burgess-Quémard, has said that the Tom Clancy and Prince of Persia publisher is always looking to widen its worldwide business. "We want to continue our strategy of innovation, and in order to do that, we need to have more people and generate more business," she explained. "Every blockbuster we work on, we invest in new studios, new teams and new projects." As for measuring up to rival monoliths, EA and Activision Blizzard, Burgess-Quémard states that Ubisoft (or is that Take-Twobisoft?) won't be caught resting on its laurels. "We are in the race, definitely – and we're not in it to come last."Now, please remember the other half of the aforementioned mantra, Ubi. Bigger and better. We could certainly do with fewer giant corporations pumping pollution into our virtual environments.

Rumors have hit the web that Tom Clancy's HAWX might be coming to the Wii, after the game was announced for the 360 and PS3 not too long ago. It's a high-speed flight combat simulator, a platform for military heroes to strut their stuff, and hopefully a graphical showcase for some serious dogfighting action. There hasn't been any official announcement or media for the Wii version as yet, but several online retailers along with IGN have updated their listings to specifically include HAWX. Ubisoft is holding out on details for now, but the tentative release date of September 16 shouldn't be too far off the mark. Check out the official website to get all excited and stuff. Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer won't be involved. Phew.[Via GoNintendo]

Tom Clancy's HAWX, a new air combat game that takes Clancy spy action to the skies, was previously announced for a Fall 2008 release. Recent chattings with Eurogamer revealed that "Fall 2008" is really more specifically September 2008. That's great news for all of you flyboys and gals looking for another flight sim for the PS3. In the meantime until then, just try to forget the fact that the game is named HAWX. Also, be grateful that it isn't titled "HAWT" as in "Tom Clancy's HAWT." Terrible.

Ubisoft just announced today that HAWX, Ubi's attempt to fly into the flight combat genre arena, will reach super sonic speeds and fly into retailers this September. And that's a surprise to us. We were under the impression that HAWX would be fueled up for late Fall, either October, November or as late as December. But it's a good thing, because fighting for freedom can not and should not wait. Thundercats HAWX GO!

Tipsters are going mad! Mad we tell ya! Today Ubisoft has been shooting off emails to registered users inviting them to register for a chance to beta test Tom Clancy's EndWar. The Xbox 360 exclusive open beta is scheduled to run for three weeks between June and July and allow users to the real-time strategy game online in 1v1 or 2v2 matches across three multiplayer maps.Registration is now open for the open beta and Ubisoft reminds registrants that this is an actual beta and bugs are probably going to occur. Oh and remember kids, you need an Xbox Live Gold account, at least 3GB of free hard drive space (a bag full-o-memory cards won't do!) and a pocket full of hopes and dreams to get into the beta that's sure to fill up fast. If you are lucky enough to be selected for the beta you will be notified by Ubisoft at a later time.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

  • PS3 EndWar may support PlayStation Eye

A few people have been asking why more games haven't included support for the PlayStation Eye, especially when it was being touted as the greatest little camera a videogame console had ever seen. Well, something to that extent, anyway. Seems the folks in charge of Tom Clancy's latest gaming foray, EndWar, want to utilize it. Content director Julian Geright said: "Maybe we're going to have some PlayStation Eye stuff, but that all depends on whether we can slip it past Microsoft. I might not be able to talk about this just yet..." That almost sounds evil.As for the launch between the 360 and PS3 versions, the former is going smoothly but there are a few points that need polishing on the PS3's end. The PS3 version is still for want of a better anti-aliasing solution that won't cost them three frames per second, but otherwise, the two will launch with the same specs. We'll keep an 'eye' out for more information. Aren't we just hilarious?

Yesterday brought us some in-game footage of Tom Clancy's EndWar, but today brings us an actual gameplay demo from Ubidays, including the often touted voice controls. You'll hear the Ubisoft demonstrator saying things like "Unit One, attack Hostile Two," and, through some kind of devilry, the game does exactly what he commands. There are a few details left unclear in the video. For example, we're not sure exactly how labels are applied to units and areas. How does the player designate an area as Bravo? How do you determine with unit is Unit One? It's possible that the game labels these things automatically, but we won't know until we get some more details. However it all works, we're definitely intrigued. If the voice commands really do work as well as they appear to in this video, Ubisoft may have found a solution to the console RTS problem after all.
