  • Toys R Us drops Canadian Xbox 360 price

What was just a rumor as recently as this morning has apparently already become reality -- the Canadian Toys R Us web site is showing $50 reductions in price for the Xbox 360 Pro (now $349.99) and Halo Edition - (now $399.99). An informant at a Canadian Toys R Us has also told us that the Xbox 360 Arcade has been reduced $20 (to $279.99) and the Elite has come down $50 (to $449.99 -- all prices are in Canadian dollars, eh?)Ironically enough, FutureShop, where this morning's rumor first originated, has not lowered their web site prices as of press time. Perhaps they're waiting until Friday to unleash that Turok Elite bundle on an unsuspecting public?Does this surprise move mean an American price drop is in the cards? Probably not -- much like the previous Microsoft Canada price drop, the adjustment seems designed to bring prices up North in line with the weakening American dollar.Update: Apologies for the inadvertent act of bad foreign relations. No offense was meant, Canada. Are we still cool?[Thanks Stephen]

  • Toys R Us slashes price on Guitar Hero III bundle

For those of you who might have steered clear of Guitar Hero III because the price was just too high for you, take note: Toys R Us is now offering up the bundle for $69.99, which is $20 less than its normal price. With that extra coin, you could pick up a classic controller or just pocket the cash. Getting the wireless Les Paul that comes bundled in for $20 less than everyone else would make us feel so special, if you ask us.Head on past the break for a look at the ad for the price drop.

  • Wii on Toys 'R' Us' Big Toy Book cover

The Wii may have been Toys "R" Us' first video game console to appear on their "hot toy" list last year, but this year it goes straight to the cover of their annual Big Toy Book. Not only did the Wii get the cover, but Nintendo products received a two-page spread inside. Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's video game products had to share a spread with each other. What does it mean? Well, the cynical part of us wants to say that Toys "R" Us is just pulling a giant bait and switch. Just because the Wii is on the cover -- brilliant marketing given the demographic they're targeting -- doesn't mean the stores will have any in stock. Who knows, parents may walk in for a Wii and walk out with an Xbox 360, or maybe even a PS3? At least Toys "R" Us got them in the door.[Via GoNintendo]

  • KB Toys: DS/GBA games are buy one, get other 50% off

KB Toys is doing a better deal than what we've come to expect from Toys R Us by offering "buy one, get one 50% off" on all GBA and DS titles. CheapAssGamer has lead the way to the savings which can be found in-store only and end Oct. 30.Now the key thing is just finding a store. Beyond that there are plenty of other toy related items part of the same deal (we just happen to focus on the video games). Could be an ideal time to get a little early holiday shopping done. Yup, it's almost that time.[Via CheapAssGamer]

  • Rare Pokemon cartridge holds a litter of Mews

This special copy of Pokémon Fire Red could make you very, very popular in the GTS or at our own Game Night. That's because it's loaded with Mews. This cartridge was used in one of those Toys 'R' Us Pokémon events, to distribute Mews to store visitors. We don't know exactly how rare something like this is, but there couldn't have been many such cartridges produced for a one-off event at a single retail chain. We wonder if there would be a noticeable change in the GTS once a bunch of "legit" Mews is unleashed into the trading community. Would the relative barter value of Mews adjust? Oh, man, why is Pokémon economics suddenly so interesting? What is wrong with us? [Via GameSniped]

Considering that Toys R Us has given Pokemon fans free critters in the past, we can't say we're surprised that the store is planning on giving away a free Manaphy to anyone who's willing to tackle the gauntlet of downloading from the store's download station this Saturday. Not only that, but they'll also be offering up DS games at a reduced price, slashing $5 off every title up for grabs in the store.Anyone planning on downloading Manaphy, or do you already have this one in your cruel collection of kidnapped creatures?[Thanks, Antwon!]

Those of you who might've been holding back on picking up that Classic Controller or extra Wiimote might want to pounce on Toys R Us' latest deal. For every accessory you buy, you get 50% of the purchase of a second accessory. Oh, and did we mention that it's valid on Wii Points cards and SD cards, as well? Too bad the maximum capacity card it looks like they have is only 1gb. If you want to save on shipping, you can take advantage of the deal in-store.Also, you might want to note that they're running buy two, get one free on games.[Thanks, Leon!]

  • Toys R Us and GameFly deals before the holiday flood

CheapAssGamer points the way this week to two retailers that have consistently brought on the great gaming deals: Toys R Us and GameFly. Toys R Us apparently took their famous "Buy 2 get the 3rd game free" deal underground this week. It's going on right now without a flyer being produced for last Sunday's papers -- a first as far as we're aware. Maybe they're testing to see if the web does the work for them? The deal is both online and in the stores. We're just completely baffled why TRU said nothing about the event we're consistently excited for whenever it happens. Some are even rumoring that this could be a two-week deal and that it'll actually be advertised this Sunday, so get in now before the general populace finds out. They are also doing a "buy one, get one accessory 50% off deal." No word yet if you could work the Circuit City MS point angle on that.If you don't know about GameFly's store, well let us inform you about another hidden gem of value on these intertubes. According to CAG, this week GameFly is offering free shipping to non-subscribers who purchase select used games. GameFly subscribers always get free shipping. The purchased used games are sent with the original case and manual practically untouched. Save as much money as you can while feeding the need for gaming. The storm is coming.[Thanks Anonymous]

  • Toys R Us puts BioShock on shelves already

All around the internets gamers are reporting and showing picture proof that BioShock's release date has been broken by a certain retailer and that they have the game in hand. Reports starting surfacing that some Toys R Us stores have "accidentally" placed BioShock on their shelves, with gamers posting pictures of their early release purchase on NeoGAF, Cheap Ass Gamer, The7Gamers, 2K Games forums and more. So, if you have an itch for Big Daddy fun, make a call to your local Toys R Us today to see if they have BioShock available. Lesson learned, you just can't keep a Big Daddy from being released early ... you just can't.

When reader Aaron wrote in to inform us that his local Toys R Us store had volumes upon volumes of DS games, drastically reduced in price, we thought nothing more than "Oh, awesome, cheap games." This was quickly shifted toward feelings of absolute disgust, as we saw the store had way too many copies of Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney on their hands.Anyway, if you have some spare time today, you might want to hit up the bargain bin at your local Toys R Us.

  • Rumor: Best Buy done with Xbox 360 core model

For those hoping that the expected $50 Xbox 360 price cut would bring the Core model down to the Wii-diculously great price of $250, we got some bad news. According to a source at Best Buy who sent Joystiq these images, the Xbox 360 Core model is dead and remaining stocks are all that's left of the system. The sheet, according to our source, shows the description of the Xbox 360 Core hardware and underneath it is the word "deleted, meaning it is being taken out of the system." The out of stock date reads 7-29-07 and the larger image (found after the break) shows the pref code "y." According to the source, "This means replenishment of this item is not expected."In a statement from July 16, when we originally heard rumblings that the Xbox 360 Core was over, a Microsoft spokesperson told us in regards to it being discontinued, "No. Xbox 360 Core remains an important member of the Xbox 360 family." Well, if the Best Buy papers end up being true, an important part of the family is about to swim with the fishes. Like Fredo from The Godfather, it breaks our hearts. We've contacted Microsoft to see if they'd like to revise their "important member" statement.[Thanks Anonymous]Update: We heard back from a Microsoft representative who said, "Nothing's changed since last week."

  • More proof: Toys R Us ad hints at 360 price cut

More "proof" of an Xbox 360 price cut hit the interwebs yesterday with the leak of a Toys R Us ad. The leaked Toys R Us ad shows exactly what its long distance cousin from Wal-mart displays, a $50 price cut on the Premium 360. Supposedly, both ads come from August 12th when the rumored price cut will occur and subsequently the internets will explode. Well, maybe not explode, but get really hopped up on caffeine and run around hugging anyone in sight. Anyway, these ads simply add more fuel to the Xbox 360 price cut fire, but we'll only be able to know the complete story and the truth in a few weeks. And for all our "I need to see them with my own eyes!" readers, bigger scans of both the Toys R Us and Wal-mart ads are viewable over at Cheap Ass Gamer after the jump.

Hot on the heels of the dubious Wal-mart advertisement, comes the above Toys R Us circular pic, which should add some juice to the price cut rumors. The boys at CheapAssGamer (who snagged the original ad) have gotten their hands on more evidence that the $50 Xbox 360 price cut is indeed coming. Of course, this could be Photoshopped too, but who's really going to all the trouble of doctoring two separate ads to depict this price drop? [Via Joystiq]

    07.29.2007

Well, CheapyD, who runs CheapAssGamer, is convinced about the $50 price drop coming to the Xbox 360 in August. Following yesterday's leaked "Wal-Mart" ad, today the crew at CAG dug up this Toys R Us ad for the week beginning Sunday, Aug. 12. The image taken by UgamerX is still really hard to make out and was probably taken on the sly, but the picture, in the largest size available, does seem to show toward the right side a "Valid Monday 8/13/07 ..." regarding some other deal, meaning the ad is at least in the same week. Also, Madden 08, which releases Aug. 14, can be clearly seen above the price drop image.Cheapy D says, "When they become available, I fully expect the other retailer's ads to reflect the $50 price drop." Another member at CAG named Speedy, who was the one to expose the price drop for the PS3, typically gets Circuit City, Target and Best Buy flyers early; so we'll see what's really going on that week when he posts that week's flyer information. No word yet on how this will affect the Core or the Elite models of the Xbox 360.[Thanks CheapyD, James, Zewone]

It's been awhile since we've been able to get some DS games on special at Toys R Us, but the excellent chance at picking up some much-needed DS games has come back. The excellent thing is, though, that the sale isn't limited to just the company's website, allowing patrons inside its stores to take advantage of the offer as well. So, should you be the type of person who hates to wait for things to ship to you, just walk in your local store and you're set. You'll only have until Saturday, however, as the sale only extends until then. And, as always with this sale, the cheapest game you pick up will be the title given for free from the retail chain. So, what will you be getting through the sale? As for us, we'd definitely like to get our hands on ... well, to tell the truth, we've pretty much got every game we could want.[Via Joystiq]

If there is any company that treats gamers right a few times a year it's Toys R Us with their buy two get one free deal. It's always worth putting a few dollars aside every week for that magical time they unleash the joyful occasion. Well, this week, they're doing the same deal, but only with Nintendo DS games.Until this Saturday, both online and in stores, Toys R Us is offering their buy two, get one free, on all Nintendo DS games. Of course, you should try to get games of the same price because the cheapest one you pick is the free one. Now you can pick up a good game for free that you just couldn't bring yourself to spend actual money on ... yeah, we're talking about Super Princess Peach.[Via CAG]

Pirated video games in the Philippines is certainly nothing new -- we remember seeing counterfeit Famicom carts being sold there back in the day -- but its ubiquity in the Southeast Asian country is startling. GameOPS' John Phillips Bengero sent us some pictures to illustrate just how dire the DS and GBA bootlegging situation is. Far from being confined to Manila's seedier markets, these shots were taken at a recently opened Toys "R" Us branch in TriNoma mall! Bring a pocket full of pesos past the post break for the photos.

Toys R Us has put out their list of the top 24 hottest toys for this summer, and, surprisingly, there is only one video game on the list-- and even that one's kind of a non-game, according to some people's definitions. Nintendo's brain-teasin' hit Brain Age represents the entirety of our hobby in Toys R Us's summer marketing campaign, despite being a game about math problems, and despite being over a year old. Technically, they also advertise the Leapster, but ... don't worry about the Leapster..Are we seeing early signs of a Japan-style Brain Age phenomenon? Should we start hoarding DS Lites? Reader, and Toys R Us employee, HexiJosh wrote in to tell us that his store has received 24 Wiis, each designated for sale this coming Sunday. Of course, not every Toys R Us branch is guaranteed to get that many, as we're assuming it'll vary by location (that's what these corporate-like folk do), but the news of fresh stock is enough for us. We have friends and family that have seen the Wii in action because of us and still can't seem to find one. Will you get up early this Sunday and hit up the store for one? Plan on checking somewhere else this Sunday to finally score one?

In an act of undercover retail leakage (no, not that kind of leakage) DigitalSomething posted scans of next Sunday's Toys R Us ad. And after paging through their images we noticed a pretty cool Xbox 360 offer. Beginning April 1st at Toys R Us you can grab a free $50 gift card with any Xbox 360 console purchase. Though, it really doesn't compare to this past Christmas' offer, but that was then this is now. Not too shabby of a deal especially if you're looking to buy a specific game or peripheral that isn't included in the various bundle offers.[Via Digg]
