Nikon D300s unboxing and hands-on
Nikon's D300s has been filtering out to select retail locations for a few days now, and judging by the box that just arrived on our doorstep, we'd say Nikon (just barely) kept its promise of having these things out by the end of August. The semi-pro body is significantly more sturdy and somewhat heavier than our in-house D90, though the rear LCD sure looks awfully similar. We're planning on giving the 12.3 megapixel CMOS sensor and 720p movie mode a go, but for now, feel free to peruse the gallery below to see exactly what a penny under $1,800 gets you in the DSLR world these days.
Zune HD box contents spotted at Best Buy
We've already gotten a glimpse of the Zune HD's packaging courtesy of Best Buy's big preview event this past weekend -- but what about the contents of said packaging? Therein lies excitement. Excitement like some giant fold-out instructions, a USB cable, and a pair of headphones that seem to be more or less identical to the ones that came with the Zune 120 -- oh, and a little thing called the Zune HD. VIZIO VBR100 Blu-ray player freed from superstore confines, unboxed on video
We'd heard VIZIO's VBR100 BD-Live ready (& timed Wal-mart exclusive) Blu-ray player would be making an appearance this month, and our friends over at FormatWarCentral have not only spotted the rare bird in the wild, but brought one home and performed a video unboxing for all to experience. Be prepared for bad news like a lack of high definition cables included in the $178 package, though coax and optical audio outputs plus the too often-forgotten rear mounted USB port are welcome bonuses. Still avoiding the potential trampling issue at Wal-mart? Other stores should have a similar VBR110 model soon, check the video beyond the link or embedded after the break and imagine the packaging splayed about your own living room.
ASUS' Eee PC 1101HA netbook gets unboxed on video, shown in black
Unlike ASUS' Eee PC 1005HA, which seemed to ship just days after debuting, the company's 1101HA is taking its sweet time in going from "real" to "really available" here in America. This next member in the expanding Seashell range boasts a larger-than-usual 11.6-inch display and can be ordered with optional 3G (eventually, anyway), and the good folks over at NewGadgets managed to get ahold of one and unbox it for the cameras. Better still, they undressed a glossy black unit, which is noticeably different than the shiny white version we've seen thus far. Care to have a look? It's all there just after the break.
Insignia NS-HD01 portable HD radio hands-on and impressions
HD Radio has been desperately trying for years to become important in a world where most Americans are perfectly fine with tinny, 96kbps MP3s, and by and large, it's been unsuccessful. More vehicles today arrive with compatibility for a single shining portable media player (Apple's iPod, if you had to ask) than HD Radio, and up until this month, there was no way to easily strap an HD Radio player on your arm when heading out to the gym. One could argue that getting the technology into this segment is crucial for being ubiquitous, and while we aren't so sure we're in that camp just yet, we're still willing to give Insignia's NS-HD01 a fighting chance. Ultrasone Edition 8 headphones hands-on and impressions
Ultrasone's been kickin' out $1.5k headphones for as long as we can remember, and it only takes a glimpse at the Edition 9s from 2006 to see just how far we've come. The newest model, curiously titled the Edition 8, was initially announced a few months back, and we've just now been able to stuff our cranium between its Ethiopian sheepskin-covered earcups and hear 'em out. We've listened to our fair share of audio products over the years, and we definitely feel as if these are some of the most exquisite we've had the pleasure of experiencing. Mintpass Mintpad and accessories get unboxed
We're still waiting for word of an official release over here, but that hasn't stopped the Mintpass Mintpad from winding its way to the US direct from Korea, and one of 'em has now wound up in the hands of the folks at Pocketables, who have promptly done a proper unboxing. In case you missed some of the earlier hands-on videos, perhaps the most striking thing about this one is just how tiny it really is (head on past the break for a comparison shot), although Pocketables says that it's well built and "makes a positive first impression when held in the hand," even if the bezel is apparently a bit chunky. They were also impressed by the accessories available out of the gate, including a stylish silicone sleeve, a screen protector, and a handy cradle, which you can also check out by hitting up the link below.
Samsung's OmniaHD gets high-def unboxing
If watching the N97 crawl out of its Espoo-designed packaging just isn't enough for one day, how's about this? An unlocked Samsung OmniaHD (or i8910, if we're being proper) has found its way into the ever-loving hands of one mareskino, and he was kind enough to unbox the thing on video. Nokia's N97 unboxed on video -- somehow, someway
We always heard that where there is a will, there is a way. Said mantra has never been more exemplified than in the video past the break, as someone halfway across this great planet has seemingly procured what could be the very first shipping N97. Still, we'd like to point out a few things here: first, Nokia has yet to officially ship these things, so there's at least a sliver of a chance that by mashing play, you'll actually be watching a KIRF unboxing, and in turn, supporting terrorism. Also, we can't understand a word the unboxer says, so again, he could be explaining just how elaborate of a fake it is, and we'd never know. Needless to say, you should definitely proceed at your own risk.Update: Seems another fellow got one, and he's got pictures to prove it.
Dell's Mini 10v gets unboxed, cracked wide open, fitted with OS X
Not that Dell's other Mini machines aren't perfect candidates for creating your own hackintosh, but it's stellar to know that the outfit's newest member is as well. After going on sale earlier this month, the Mini 10v has been procured, unboxed and dissected, all in the name of unabashed discovery. Interestingly, it seems as if the RAM slot requires that the keyboard and motherboard be lifted for access, but for even the mildly seasoned computer user, that's absolutely nothing they can't handle. Vodafone's HTC Magic gets unboxed on video
While white seems to have been the color of choice for most official demos of the HTC Magic, there's also a black version headed to Vodafone (and other carriers, eventually), and the folks at Netbooknews.de got their hands on one of those once mythical handsets for a video unboxing. As you can see above (and in the video after the break), the packaging is a pretty sparse affair, as are the bundled accessories, which includes only a USB cable, a power adapter, a basic wired headset, and a case that apparently "feels a little cheap." And, if by some chance you still haven't seen the Magic in action, you can get a glimpse of that in the video as well.[Via Android Community]
Flip Video Ultra HD makes its unofficial debut, gets unboxed
Thanks Best Buy, we owe you (another) one. Yet again, the big box retailer everyone loves to hate has provided the world with a glimpse of a heretofore unannounced product, and this one's got our mouths all kinds of damp. Barely a month after Cisco picked up Pure Digital for a small fortune, the Flip Video Ultra HD -- which seems to be the natural successor to the standard Ultra -- has already begun to hit select store shelves in America. Notable niceties include an HDMI output, 120 minutes of record time (up from 60 minutes), a removable / rechargeable battery and support for AA cells in a pinch. We're still waiting for the full rundown of specifications (and the price, too), but feel free to tap the read link for a stellar unboxing in the meanwhile.Update: Looks like it's going for $199.99. Nikon's D5000 DSLR unboxed ahead of schedule
Well, well -- what have we here? With 24 hours to go before Nikon's D5000 hits the streets (at least at Amazon), one lucky soul has managed to stumble upon one early. The D5000 kit, which contains Nikon's first DSLR with an articulating display, has been officially unboxed in glorious fashion, and Kadath's Flickr account also shows a few test shots for those curious about image quality. Plantronics Voyager PRO gets purchased, unboxed early
Plantronics isn't planning to share intimate details about its Voyager PRO Bluetooth headset until April 23rd, but evidently its supply chain executives didn't exactly touch base with marketing before sending out stock to Best Buy. Jeff and John both managed to procure the $119.99 Bluetooth headset over the weekend, and we've got the shots to prove it. Based on the teaser site down in the read link, this here headset should be it's most advanced yet, but for a buck twenty, it better answer and respond to our calls without us having to intervene. Samsung Propel Pro review
Earlier this month at CTIA, AT&T launched quite a few new phones into its lineup, one of which happened to be Samsung's sophisticated, college-educated Propel Pro. For a smartphone, the design is quite unorthodox; rarely do you see a WinMo handset that looks more like a square than anything else and can easily double as a mirror for the fashionistas. Engineered specifically for those who favor texting but can't afford to live without the luxuries that come with owning a bona fide smartphone with a bona fide data plan, the Propel Pro caters to an interesting niche. Psystar Open(3) manages to ship, gets unboxed by lucky customer
Take a good look at the box above, folks -- it just might be the first, the last and the only Open(3) you ever see. Psystar's latest Mac clone, which was launched right around a month ago, has miraculously managed to ship out (or, at least one has). If you'll recall, the company has been battling with Apple for months on end for selling OS X-equipped machines without Cupertino's blessing, but apparently it's still doing at least a bit of business under the table. MSI's Wind U123 netbook gets unboxed
We already caught MSI's upgraded Wind U120 (which goes by U123, if you must know) sitting pretty at CeBIT last month, but the crazy cats over at PortableMonkey have gone and got a model fresh in the box. Needless to say, this retail edition (which is hitting Japanese shelves any moment now) didn't stay packaged up for long, but we are happy to say that we've been cordially invited to feast our eyes upon the unboxing process. Right out of the gate, we have to share the disappointment in the lack of a rear panel for easily accessing the internal RAM and HDD, but at least the Atom N280 is a (minor) step above what we've grown accustomed to. Just days after the machine popped official on some of the company's overseas web portals, Acer's Aspire One D250 netbook has just been acquired and unboxed across the pond. The N280-powered rig doesn't look drastically different than previous Acer netbooks, but you know you're hungry to hit play and search intently for the minute changes. SmartQ 5 MID gets unboxed
We've already seen the SmartQ 5 MID out in the wild, and even sporting Ubuntu, but those sitting on pins and needles for the inevitable unboxing can now finally rest easy, as Kam Leung has stepped up and done the honors. From the looks of it, however, there's nothing but the bare minimum included with the 4.3-inch MID / PMP although, judging from the pics, SmartQ may have been wise to at least include a dust cloth. iriver E50 gets unboxed, reviewed
iriver's E50 PMP has had a bit of a roundabout launch since it first appeared on the scene back in December, but it looks like it's now finally available in at least a few parts of the world, and the folks at Le Journal du Geek have promptly gotten their hands on one and done the full unboxing and review honors. As was pretty clear from the early shots, this one's a sleek little device and, while it doesn't exactly pack a whole slew of features, it looks to perform all the basic tasks with welcome simplicity. On the downside, the 1.8-inch screen apparently leaves a bit to be desired, especially when playing videos and, while the included earphones are a tad better than the usual fare, the sound quality from the player itself is apparently just average.
