TUAWloha, everyone, and welcome back to another episode of TUAW TV Live. Since more viewers and readers have had a chance to install Lion since last week's live demos, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to give everyone in the chat a chance to ask questions and supply tips about the latest version of OS X. Below, you'll find a Ustream livestream viewer and a chat tool. The chat tool allows you to participate by asking questions or making comments. If you're driving somewhere and would like to watch TUAW TV Live while you're stuck in traffic, please don't -- keep your eyes on the road! However, if someone else is doing the driving, you can watch the show on your iPhone and join the chat by downloading the free Ustream App. It's a universal app and is wonderful on an iPad, both for viewing and participating in the chat. We'll start at about 5 PM ET, so if you're seeing a prerecorded show, be sure to refresh your browser until you see the live stream. For those of you who are not able to join us for the live edition, you'll be able to view it later this evening on our TUAW Video YouTube channel and as part of the TUAW TV Live podcast viewable in iTunes or on any of your Apple devices. Having problems with the Flash player below? Here's a direct link to a non-Flash version of the show.

I still have Lion on the brain, so today's all-live broadcast is going to feature your questions about Lion in the chat room and my attempts to answer those questions. My broadcast machine is now running El Gato Grande, so I'll be able to fumble around looking for an answer while you watch. As many long-time viewers know, we use Ustream for the show. Well, just yesterday the company came out with a new version of Ustream for iPad (free) that is awesome. Not only can you watch the show or broadcast your own show if you so desire, but all of the chat tools are now available on your favorite tablet. As usual, I'll be starting the show at 5 PM EDT (2 PM PDT/10 PM BST) sharp, and we'll take a few minutes to chat before the demos start. To join in on the chat and watch the live streaming video, drop by TUAW about five minutes before the start time to get your instructions on how to participate. If you're unable to join us for the show, remember that you can always subscribe to the video podcast and watch the show at your leisure in iTunes or any other favorite podcatching app. The past shows are also available on the TUAW YouTube channel.

It didn't happen for last week's show, but today on TUAW TV Live you're going to see a lot of Lion. Not only will I show you my pictures from my 2009 trip to Africa (just kidding), but I have a pile of demonstrations to show you. Even if you've already installed OS X Lion, you're sure to hear a few tips that I've picked up using the new OS over the last few months. Bring any questions that you may have about Lion to the chat room, and if I don't have an answer, I'm sure we can get one from the experts who frequently watch the show. I'm a big fan of the new OS X Lion Server, so I'll also demo it and some Lion-friendly apps. Below, you'll find a Ustream livestream viewer and a chat tool. The chat tool allows you to participate by asking questions or making comments. If you're driving somewhere and would like to watch TUAW TV Live while you're stuck in traffic, please don't -- keep your eyes on the road! However, if someone else is doing the driving, you can watch the show on your iPhone and join the chat by downloading the free Ustream Viewing Application. If you're on an iPad, you should be able to use the Skyfire Browser to watch the stream, although you will not be able to participate in the chat. We'll start at about 5 PM ET, so if you're seeing a prerecorded show, be sure to refresh your browser until you see the live stream. For those of you who are not able to join us for the live edition, you'll be able to view it later this evening on our TUAW Video YouTube channel and as part of the new TUAW TV Live podcast viewable in iTunes or on any of your Apple devices. Today on TUAW TV Live, there's only one topic -- OS X Lion. I've been working with various developer beta versions of Apple's latest operating system for several months now while writing a book about Lion, and I can't wait to show off some of the new features of the big cat. If you're interested in OS X Lion Server, I've got it up and running as well -- it's now a $49.99 app that runs on Lion and provides a simple user interface for most of the major tasks involved in setting up and maintaining a server. For those who have been afraid to set up a small office or home server due to the complexity of doing so, your time has come. How about those new MacBook Pros and MacBook Airs? The old plastic-body MacBook is no more, and there's a lot more to talk about in the chat room today. As usual, I'll be starting the show at 5 PM EDT (2 PM PDT / 10 PM BST) sharp, and we'll take a few minutes to chat before the demos start. Updated: The podcast subscription link was broken in the original post.

Well, with that headline I've finally acheived a life goal -- writing a TUAW headline with the word "extravaganza" in it. Today's TUAW TV Live is going to be all about iPad apps, except for the parts where I'll be talking about Google+, opening some boxes of hardware that are awaiting review, and maybe talking a little bit after all about an upcoming OS update. Below, you'll find a Ustream livestream viewer and a chat tool. The chat tool allows you to participate by asking questions or making comments. If you're driving somewhere and would like to watch TUAW TV Live while you're stuck in traffic, please don't -- keep your eyes on the road! Doc is my guest today on TUAW TV Live, and we plan on having a lively hour of discussion and fun. We'd love to have you join us through the live chat and our video stream of Apple nonsense. 06.29.2011

This month, Cave gave the iPhone version of Deathsmiles a "2011" date. We didn't have to wait long to find out when in 2011 -- and we won't have to wait long to play it. Cave announced that you'll be able to enter Deathsmiles' moe gauntlet on July 7. For the first four days, it'll be priced at $4.99/£2.99/€3.99, then the price will go up to $8.99/£5.49/€6.99. If you're uncontrollably thrilled about the new iPhone shmup, you'll be able to get an early look at it on Friday, July 1. Cave is hosting a Ustream "live sneak peek" event introducing Deathsmiles and revealing new content for the iPhone version. The 30-minute broadcast will be translated into English on the fly, for those of you who are into Cave shooters but not so into them that you learned Japanese.%Gallery-126265%

  • TUAW TV Live: More website design options than you can shake a stick at

    by

    06.15.2011

Today's TUAW TV Live is designed to impart a lot of information in one hour, and to get my current obsession with iWeb replacements out of my head for good. In case you're wondering why I've been writing so much about iWeb lately, it's because I've written three editions of a book about the Apple website creation tool for Take Control Books. Naturally, I started getting a lot of questions from readers of both TUAW and my book about what they should do if iWeb and MobileMe hosting disappear from the face of the Earth. Between thinking of answers to these questions and having a wealth of information from a community college class that I teach, I figured it was a good time to create a treasure trove of web and video resources for reference in the future. I'll be demonstrating and discussing a variety of website design and hosting options today on the show, so if you have even a slight interest in the topic, be sure to join in or watch the recorded show later. • Fallen Earth gets cozy with GamersFirst [Updated]

    by

    05.31.2011

In a recent USTREAM announcement, the developers at Icarus studios explained that the post-apocalyptic MMO Fallen Earth is on the move. GamersFirst, which is well-known for having purchased and resurrected third-person shooter MMO All Points Bulletin, is taking the sandbox MMO under its wing. The full video has not been posted as of yet, but we are prodding GamersFirst and Icarus for more information. Will this mean that Fallen Earth is moving to a free-to-play model? Or is GamersFirst just helping the indie studio gain industry exposure? The Fallen Earth website is currently down and is due back online at 11 p.m. EDT. Hopefully, when the site comes back online everything will be revealed. Massively will stay on top of this story, and we will relay it all back to you as soon as more comes to light, so stay tuned! [Update: As of 8 p.m. EDT, the Fallen Earth team is once again broadcasting live over USTREAM and answering questions about the game and the transition. We've also got the video from earlier in the day. Check out the embeds after the cut!]

Maintenance breaks may typically be frustrating, boring patches of non-activity for MMO gamers, but next Tuesday promises to be different for Fallen Earth. According to the official site, the team has a "major" announcement scheduled during the May 31st downtime -- one you won't want to miss. The announcement will take place during two live podcasts with Senior Game Designer Marie Croall. During the podcasts, Croall will discuss the game's present and future to the dedicated wastelanders out there. You can catch the podcast and announcement on Fallen Earth's Ustream channel on May 31st at 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. EDT. Alternatively, players may use Ventrilo to catch the action and even submit their own questions. What will this announcement be? We're not sure, but it looks to be a long weekend wait until we find out!

  • Live chat on Ustream with the Gods & Heroes developers

    05.23.2011

One of the big upsides to the communication venues available online is that players of MMOs can connect with developers like never before. Gods & Heroes fans will have a chance to connect with the development team tomorrow via Ustream chat, giving hopeful players a chance to ask almost anything they could want about the decidedly Roman game. Starting at 7:00 p.m. EDT, the chat is open to any players via the development team's regular live streaming channel. If you can't make the event itself or you just want to try to get a question in early, the team is ready for that as well. Questions may be submitted early via Twitter, Facebook, or the game's official forums; the team is planning to round up the best questions and answer them on the air. If Gods & Heroes is on your radar for future play, you might want to take the time tomorrow night to get involved in the live broadcast.

Thanks for joining me here on TUAW TV Live today. Whether you're just watching the show or taking full advantage of the chat room tool, you're sure to have a lot of fun. Live demonstrations are always a challenge, and today I'm tempting fate by demoing several iPad apps. To watch the show from your Mac or PC, click the Read More link at the bottom of this post. There you'll find the livestream viewer and chat tool. Use the chat tool to ask questions or make comments. What a great day! Apple has responded to the "locationgate" controversy in a nice, logical PR blast; the mythical white iPhone 4 will be available starting tomorrow, and here in the Northern Hemisphere it's really starting to look like spring. It's also Wednesday, which means that later this afternoon you can join me for an hour of fun, tech talk and technical blunderings on TUAW TV Live. On today's show, I'm going to take a deep dive into a handful of iPad apps. I'm not going to tell you what those apps are, but let's just say that they're fascinating and take advantage of the iPad hardware and user interface in very good ways. As usual, I'll be starting the show at 5 PM EDT (2 PM PDT / 10 PM BST) sharp, and we'll take a few minutes to chat before the demos start. To join in on the chat and watch the live streaming video, drop by TUAW about five minutes before the start time to get your instructions on how to participate. If you're unable to join us for the show, remember that you can always subscribe to the video podcast and watch the show at your leisure in your iTunes or your other favorite podcatching app.

  • Celebrate City of Heroes' 7th anniversary with the devs!

    04.26.2011

Few MMOs make it to seven years, and fewer still retain a sizable, fanatical playerbase the way City of Heroes has. From its humble origins as a different type of online RPG through its growth in fame, power and two expansion packs, City of Heroes has mimicked the superhero archetype in more ways than one. The devs at Paragon Studios want to celebrate this seven-year milestone with the coolest crowd on the block: namely, CoH players! While there will be no in-game events this year due to content coming in May, the devs will be available for a meet and greet this Thursday, April 28th on the EU and NA servers. Check out the schedule to see when and where you can hang out with your favorite dev and perhaps unload a burning question or two. The team will also appear later that day in a special UStream live chat event. Stay tuned to Massively, as tomorrow our Mild-Mannered Reporter column will be throwing the confetti and blowing kazoos to mark this auspicious occasion!

I was looking forward to combining today's Apple Second Quarter 2011 Results Conference Call and TUAW TV Live into one incredible show -- until it was pointed out that I'd need Apple's prior approval to do so. As a result, TUAW TV Live is going to be kicking off two hours early at 3 PM EDT (Noon PDT) today, and we'll be hosting a liveblog for the financial call at 5 PM EDT. Part of the show will be a look at the prognostications of Wall Street on what we'll probably hear from Apple today, while the rest of the hour will be dedicated to a discussion of this week's Apple news and what's new in the world of Apple hardware and software. I'll still be using our regular Ustream tools this week for the broadcast.

To me, there's nothing more fun than hearing the doorbell ring as a box is delivered by my friendly FedEx, UPS or USPS driver. More often than not, they're delivering a piece of hardware or an accessory for me to test, and that makes a lot of days seem like Christmas morning. The rest of the time, the TUAW staff is braving a flood of app announcements, many of which are for really incredible apps. That's why today's TUAW TV Live will feature some live app demos, and I'll also be showing you some of the hardware that's in the studio awaiting review.
