In case you aren't as skilled in mashing words together, jawesome is a way to say "jaw-droppingly awesome" without any extra effort than just saying awesome. Anyhow, our friends over at Siliconera have noted that the recently released Sega title, Valkyria Chronicles, has cameos from the stars of Skies of Arcadia, another overlooked gem from Sega's vault. You can get Vyse the Bold and Aika, his female pirate companion, to join your cause. That's pretty awesome and who knows -- this may mean the Skies of Arcadia franchise has more life left to live. It shows Sega hasn't lost interest in recreating the characters, right?

It's not that we're trying to inundate you with Valkyria Chronicles videos -- but since the game has launched in Japan, the rest of the world are starting to get their own versions of videos. This one's a mixture of new and old footage with a fancy score on top of it. The title's in English, but we still don't get to hear any voices or see any real text. Expect that soon enough, though!

[Note: For some reason, the video isn't showing up, but you can still view it here. Sorry for the malfunction -- we're sorting it out currently!]As the title implies, this is a long video. It's the first ten six minutes and forty-five seconds of Sega's new game, Valkyria Chronicles. We're not going to say much about what you see in the video because a lot of people may want to keep the intro and whatnot a relative surprise for when they import or buy it domestically. The visuals are, as expected, lovely and the voices are pretty nice. It would be swell if Sega utilized the Blu-ray's abilities and kept the Japanese language track for other territories. Enjoy!

Valkyria Chronicles is sweeping across Japan this week, and as if all the free swag wasn't enough, there's a free theme for your PS3, too. What's good is that you don't even have to purchase the game, or be in Japan for that matter, to get this. Just simply go to the Valkyria Japanese website, go to "Download," go to "Custom Theme," and then download the sucker. It's not much, but hopefully this little piece of Valkyria will keep you company until the game's Autumn release in North America and Europe.[Via Famitsu]

If you're going to be in Japan for the release of Sega's upcoming tactical RPG shooter Valkyria Chronicles on April 24th, you may as well go pick up the game in Akihabara so you have a chance to score some sweet swag. You take your receipt from purchase to Sega GiGO and you might get a messenger bag, a t-shirt, promotional postcard, or an autographed piece of art. Even if you don't get to Japan for this, look around on eBay in a few weeks!

The mandatory installs of the past few months have shaken us up quite a bit, making us keep our eyes peeled for any future PS3 games that may have the dreaded feature. So, when we heard that the install for Valkyria Chronicles was an optional one, we sighed with relief. Still, it would've been better if there was no install at all, but it looks like this is the way it's going to be. If you've noticed that your games and their installs are starting to take up too much space on your 40 or 80 gig system, then it would be a good idea to start upgrading that HDD.Valkyria's install is sized at 3.3GB and will cut down regular 15-second load times significantly. The game will be out in Japan soon on April 24, and an Autumn 2008 release is scheduled for North America and Europe.

  • Valkyria Chronicles video bonanza continues: meet Alicia

This latest character-centric trailer for Sega's Valkyria Chronicles highlights the girl who seems to be the main protagonist: Alicia Melchiott. She's a ... baker, we guess. She hands out bread to people and has a flying pig as a pet. We think. Chances are, she has a crush on Welkin Gunther, but we'll find out for sure in the game. It's a short trailer, but it's eye candy for those interested in the game's art style.

We know thieves and scoundrels in typical Japanese games don themselves a fancy bandanna and Valkyria Chronicles seems to stick to this formula -- the questionable Zaka enters this installment in the trailer bonanza from Sega. He's not really a thief, but he looks like a troublemaker. Or a tank gunner. Either way, enjoy the trailer!

Yet another character bio trailer for Sega's Valkyria Chronicles has hit the interwebs and this one focuses on Isara Gunther, who appears to be the younger sister of the main character, Welkin Gunther. She's pretty easy to spot in a crowd -- headphones and a poncho are not very inconspicuous effects. Anyway, if nothing else, the trailer gives you a few more glimpses at this interesting title. Importers, get ready to bring this one to the states on April 22nd.

Yes, we're very excited about this game. Yes, it's by Sega. It's about time Sega came out with a title that is not only original, but appears gorgeous and will undoubtedly turn the heads of critics. At least, that's our optimistic view after watching these two new videos. The one above is a new trailer of sorts -- it almost looks like the opening cinematic, but since we don't know Japanese can't be sure. The second one is after the jump and it details the other protagonist of the story: Welkin Gunther. Enjoy!

It seems as the Japanese release of Valkyria Chronicles draws closer, new trailers emerge that focus on one of the main characters of the game. The focus this time around is on a man aptly titled Largo Potter. He's big. He's an anti-tank specialist, apparently. Anyway, the trailer's short and sweet, but gives those anticipating this title something fresh to sink their teeth into. There are also some screenshots from the trailer to look at if you want to see them standing still.

This game was formerly known as Valkyrie of the Battlefield. At least, that was the title in Japan. In the US, it's being called Valkyria Chronicles, but some people are mashing them together into "Valkyrie Chronicles". It's confusing and unnecessary, but just assume any game mentioned with some spelling of valkyrie and some mention of battlefields or chronicles are all the same. That being said, enjoy a handful of new screenshots from the latest trailer detailing the girl with the red hair set into two buns. Her name is ostensibly Rosie and she says hello.[via Akayuki]

  • Valkyrie of the Battlefield gets western release

So we've previously said we were going to cry if we didn't hear a US release announcement for Valkyrie of the Battlefield: Gallian Chronicles; fortunately for us, and for you all as well, we won't have to break out the tears because both SEGA America and SEGA Europe are making our wish come true by bringing the game over to the west. Announced and renamed for the west as Valkyria Chronicles, this PS3-exclusive should be coming our way by autumn 2008. For the uninitiated, Valkyria Chronicles is a strategy RPG that incorporates the "BLiTZ" battle system. "BLiTZ" takes a unique twist on the traditional turn-based system by injecting bits of real-time movement and actions. As much of a paradox as that may sound, it really does makes sense once you see it in action. The game's gorgeous imagery is probably what gamers have noticed most about the game; the artistic style is brought out by SEGA's CANVAS engine which is said to take full advantage of the PS3's processing capabilities. The game is set in a fictional world, and follows the story of a soldier named Welkin. The major conflict is a familiar backdrop with two huge forces waging war: "The Empire" and "The Federation." A smaller neutral country named Gallia, has the most unfortunate position of being right in between these two huge factions. What will happen as a result of this? We don't know, but we're certainly curious. Be assured, we'll be keeping a close watch on this one.
