Virtual Console aficionados have been waiting a long time for this one. Pilotwings is finally here and it's pretty much just like you remember it: highly repetitive; punishingly difficult, but as rewarding as ever. Check it out in the latest episode of VC in Brief above! Pilotwings (SNES, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. We also toss in our own two cents because we're pushy jerks like that.

What a day for Virtual Console fans. For one, we've got the ultra-aggressive coin-op classic, Ninja Gaiden, to check out. Then, on top of that, the game that spawned one of Nintendo's most beloved franchises: Super Smash Bros. for the N64. If that doesn't put a smile on your face, then you just may be one of the most depressed people on Earth. We suggest consulting a doctor. Super Smash Bros. (N64, 1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points) Ninja Gaiden (Arcade, 1-2 players, 600 Wii Points) Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. We also toss in our own two cents because we're pushy jerks like that.

Martial arts is the theme on the Virtual Console this week, as Sega and Capcom both offer up entries in their respective franchises. Unless you like to punch things, throw pointy things at things or kick things -- or maybe some kind of mixture of all that -- then you'll probably want to skip this week's downloads. Pacifists need not apply! Street Fighter Alpha 2 (SNES, 1 - 2 players, 800 Wii Points) Shinobi (VC Arcade, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. We also toss in our own two cents because we're pushy jerks like that.

This week's Virtual Console update offers two delectable titles -- Solomon's Key is a very unique action/puzzler hybrid, whereas The Combatribes features a wonderfully bad story and the demon clowns of Coney Island. Life doesn't get much better than this, folks! Solomon's Key (VC Arcade, 1 - 2 players, 600 Wii Points) The Combatribes (SNES, 1 - 2 players, 800 Wii Points) Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. This week's Virtual Console update is delicious on two different fronts. For one, it's delicious in that we wish we could have some of those jelly beans the Blob in A Boy and His Blob is snacking on -- well, except for the ketchup ones. Even we don't like those! Secondly, it's delicious because ... uh, we may not have thought that far ahead, But, hey, Super Mario Kart! Have you been adequately distracted from our mental lapse? Check out the video above! Super Mario Kart (SNES, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points) A Boy and His Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points) Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. This week, the Virtual Console dumptruck has unloaded two new games onto Wii consoles. One is a fighting game with a superior version already on the service, while the other is a pretty good Factor 5 joint for the SNES. If you fancy yourself an Indy fan (not that kinda Indy), then you'll definitely want to check out the video above. Actually, you should probably just watch it anyway. You know, just to be safe. Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures (SNES, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) Street Fighter II' Champion Edition (TG16, 1 - 2 players, 700 Wii Points) Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. We also toss in our own two cents because we're pushy jerks like that.

This week's Virtual Console update is quite the doozie, giving us one obscure C64 title and one game we've played a billion times. We don't mean to sound bitter, but we're pretty sure there's a baker's dozen Wonder Boy games littering the lands of the Virtual Console. Check 'em out above! Cybernoid (C64, 1 player, 500 Wii Points) Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (Sega Master System, 1 player, 500 Wii Points) Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. This week's Virtual Console releases kind of pale in comparison to last week's stellar offerings; Fighting Street is a crummy game that helped spawn one of gaming's best series, whereas R-TYPE is a great game, though the version offered this week is the lousier port. There's been a way more competent version of the game available since 2006! Fighting Street (TurboGrafx-16 CD-ROM, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points) R-TYPE (Sega Master System, 1 player, 500 Wii Points) Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. This week, the Virtual Console receives two new titles: Golden Axe on the VC Arcade and Zombies Ate My Neighbors on the SNES. Both are great times for co-op enthusiasts and, really, just great times. Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points) Golden Axe (Arcade, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points) Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. Rygar (Arcade, 1-2 players, 600 Wii Points) Rygar is a pretty intense title. Luckily, the quarter-munching gameplay of the arcade classic translates to the Wii very well. For one, you don't need to run out of quarters from dying -- oh, and you will die, believe it. Second, every time you die or even continue once you've run out of lives, you pick up right from where you left off. So, there's no replaying stages or sections of the game you've previously played as a result of dying. Have we mentioned how much you'll die?You will die. A lot. Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. Final Fight 2 (SNES, 1 -2 players, 800 Wii Points) This week's offering punches the Virtual Console silly, continuing the adventures of everyone's favorite wrestler-turned-politician (What, you think Jesse Ventura deserves that honor? Pfft ...) in Final Fight 2. It doesn't innovate or really add much more to the original experience -- well, except for more dudes to punch. There are plenty more thugs to beat on, that's for sure. But what it lacks in innovation, it makes up for in dudes to punch. Seriously, do you wanna punch dudes? Because that's totally what's going on here. Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. Final Fantasy (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)We say: A classic that everyone should at least try once The first Final Fantasy needs no introduction. It's a timeless classic and influential in countless ways, so it definitely deserves a playthrough. We'd say more, but there isn't really much else to say about one of the most important games ever. Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. Altered Beast (Sega 1 - 2 players, 1,000 Wii Points)We say: Great game, but you can find it for less It's not that the VC Arcade version of Altered Beast is bad or anything -- in fact, it's the complete opposite, but for such an old game, there are less costly ways to enjoy it. If you have a PS2, there's a Sega Genesis Collection that's a more financially responsible way to play. If you've only got the Wii and have never played this, though, it might be worth your double sawbuck. Check out the video above and decide. Last Ninja 2 (Commodore 64, 1 player, 500 Wii Points)We say: Save your sawbuck This week's VC in Brief is all about Last Ninja 2, the story of one ninja trapped in 1988 New York city. For me, it was more the story of ninja persecution at the hands of the NYPD, but, to be fair, juggling clowns in the park didn't seem to like me either. Regardless, I found that Last Ninja 2 -- much like its predecessor -- just isn't for me. Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. Crash 'n the Boys: Street Challenge (NES, 1 - 2 players, 500 Wii Points)We say: Fun, but tiringCrash 'n the Boys: Street Challenge is pretty awesome, don't get me wrong, but it can be a bit much during extended play sessions. For the 400m Hurdles, my left arm would become quite strained because your speed is dictated by how well you can spam the d-pad (admittedly, it also has to do with how well you can navigate the hurdles). Despite this and some of the more tedious activities within, Crash 'n the Boys: Street Challenge is still a great time. Check it out! Super Star Wars (LucasArts, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)We say: You don't need a Jedi Mind Trick to tell you this is worth the scratch After taking a week off to hook us up with some Shinobi, the Virtual Console provides us with the promised sequel to Super Star Wars: Super Empire Strikes Back. It's an improvement on the very fun Super Star Wars and ramps up the experience in almost every respect. But, be warned: as fun as it is, it's equally as punishing. The Revenge of Shinobi (Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) We say: Dude, it's Shinobi. We don't need to say anything. The Virtual Console gets hit with a nasty case of flying shurikens this week in The Revenge of Shinobi. It's classic ninja action on one of gaming's classic consoles. Who wouldn't love that? Okay ... maybe pirates. Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. Go back to a time when MidChlorians never existed and just have fun with Super Star Wars. You won't be disappointed! Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. Tecmo Bowl (Arcade, 1 - 4 players, 600 Wii Points)We say: Beats the NES game with co-op and better graphicsAfter two weeks of forced hiatus, Nintendo has finally seen fit to restore VC in Brief. This week's Virtual Console release is the Arcade version of Tecmo Bowl. It bests its NES counterpart in almost every way, save for its two-team roster, of course. Pay witness to the spectacle above and watch as men attain glory on a 360 foot by 160 foot field. Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. California Games (C64, 1 - 5 players, 500 Wii Points)We say: Check it out! This week's release is an old favorite: California Games. Featuring an eclectic mix of sports to play (are these games all Californians know and love?), it's a game that many likely remember fondly. Well, in playing it for the first time in, oh, over 10 years, we still found it to be quite fun. Save for the roller skating game. That one is the worst.
