‘Homestar Runner’ creators revive 15-year-old game right before Flash dies
Homestar Runner remains one of the best-known internet cartoons built on Adobe Flash, a site that regularly produced hilarious absurdist content throughout the 2000s.

Every Monday, Wii Fanboy brings you the Top 5. Inspired by sages such as David Letterman and John Cusack, the Top 5 will give us a chance to share our opinions on the numerous facets of a vast video game culture. And after all, who doesn't like reading these kinds of lists (and then bitching about them afterwards)? So jump right in, agree or disagree, and maybe leave a comment with your own personal Top 5. The first batch of WiiWare was released awhile ago, and there have been high-profile releases, as well as a few future cult-classics. Despite the plentiful start, there are still many more titles on the horizon. Here's a look at what we are anticipating the most. 5. Bomberman - Since 1983, not much has changed in the Bomberman universe. This has its pros and cons. It's good because the basic Bomberman formula is not one that needs tinkering with. It's bad because, well, it's a little ridiculous to shell out full retail price for the same game generation after generation. Then along comes Bomberman for WiiWare. Nintendo's downloadable service is the perfect platform for a game such as this. With online multiplayer for 2 - 8 players, this release should be everything we need out of Bomberman: simple, classic gameplay for a reasonable price. The reduced cost should be wonderful news for wallets that were unfortunate enough to weather Bomberman, Super Bomberman, Bomberman 64, and Bomberman Generation.
Telltale's Sad Delay for Disappointed People
Kotaku posted the unfortunate news that Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People, the WiiWare adventure game based on the bizarre Flash cartoon series (in case you somehow made it onto the Internet without passing through Free Country USA), has been delayed until July. Telltale Games confirmed the delay on their forums, with staffer "Jake" saying "We moved the launch of the season (less than a month) to make the game better."Telltale assured the unreasonably angry posters in the forum that once the game does launch, the company will stick to scheduled releases of new episodes. And we can wait for the first one, as long as it comes out before 20X6.%Gallery-20307%[Thanks, fco!]
Wii Warm Up: A flavor taste that will send you to the moon
We know that the main Homestar Runner cast will make appearances in Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People. We can also assume that everyone's favorite man/dragonman/just a dragon will show up as well. But it's not just about Homestar and the Strongs.What else from the Homestarniverse do you want to see in the episodic adventure? Il Cartographer? Dangeresque? Stinko Man 20X6? Would it even be possible to endure a game featuring Senor Cardgage, the creepiest coolest guy we know? We're hoping for a visit from Mr. Shmallow -- look lively! -- or his descendants Marshie and Gel-arshie (who is an abomination, and is coming to your house after school!) That would be SO GOOD!
Videlectrix releases another game parody: Where's an Egg?
Homestar Runner's fictional game development studio, Videlectrix (who also created Peasant's Quest and Thy Dungeonman 3: Behold Thy Graphics!), have just released another treasure of gaming hilarity: Where's an Egg?. The gameplay is reminiscent of old adventure titles and has you visiting a number of locations talking to people and hunting for the egg. The catch is that you only have 999 seconds to find it. Oh, and did we mention you have a gun? Yup, loaded with three bullets you can use to shoot anyone you like. Bring on the adventuring!
Secret Collect. reveals itself on the DS
Just when you think we've established what the Nintendo DS is capable of graphics-wise, homebrew developer Phillip Bradbury comes along and smashes those preconceptions with a Videlectrix port for the ages. If you thought Population: Tire shook the scene with its innovative touchscreen controls, prepare to be brought to your knees by Secret Collect. Epic in every sense of the word, this remake is half Indiana Jones, half God of War The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time:"The greatest secrets man has ever known have been scattered all over the globe and its [sic] your job to find them."Homestar Runner's Strong Bad stars in the game, represented by a magnificently detailed, red square. You'll navigate the agile hero through fifteen blocky mazes and collect yellow squares to advance to the next spine-tingling level. Picking up the blue power-ups (also squares) will boost your speed, keeping you ahead of the labyrinths' treacherous monsters -- so treacherous, they're invisible to the naked eye! The original Flash version is also available online for those of you who either lack the tools to play homebrew games or don't have enough room on your hard drive for the 18KB download.
Population: Tire bounces onto the DS
Having enjoyed Viidelectrix's Wiimote-compatible release of Population: Tire several months ago, we're excited to see that we can now play the Flash game with our DS styli too, thanks to Phillip Bradbury's homebrew port. The faux-retro title never takes itself seriously, decorating its simple bounce-a-tire mechanics with an off-the-wall premise: "In the year 19xx, the citizens of Strongbadia are terrorized by a faceless foe. As a top secret crack commando operative, it is you [sic] job to protect the last remaining citizen from touching the tainted soil. You are soldier!"Homestar Runner favorites like The Cheat and Strong Sad wander in and out of the bottom screen, acting as score multipliers or "power-ups" when the wheel drops on their heads. Breaking Cold Ones applies a negative multiplier to your count, while letting the tire hit the ground completely resets your score. Jump over the fence and past the post break for some footage of Population: Tire.
Enter: Strongbad gaming
Be careful, brave readers: upon playing these games, you head may a splode. Fans of Strongbad can now drink up a wonderful dose of flash gaming, via the Opera internet browser. Viidelectrix currently has four games available, developed with the Wii in mind, with more scheduled to come. These might not be paragons of game design, but fans of the series will certainly enjoy the meta-humor and references contained therein.Where the heck is Peasant Quest? That game was awesome. Flash gaming on the Wii: 1.5 times neater than doing it in front of your computer.
