  • WoW Moviewatch: Inventing Swear Words

We all know that World of Warcraft has filtering enabled by default that prevents us from offending anyone with potentially naughty language. So what do you do when you can't curse? Why, invent your own swear words, of course! This video, by machinima-maker Oxhorn, is hardly new, but it's still just as funny as the day it was released.Previously on Moviewatch...

Paladinsucks points us to this fascinating video of a level 70 hunter soloing Azuregos. Yes, you read that right -- a single level 70 hunter soloing Azuregos. And before you say it can't be done, the hunter does say he spent 87 minutes working on this -- and if you can hold out for that long, I'm tempted to believe almost anything's possible.Previously on Moviewatch...

This little bit of machinima defies all of my attempts to explain it, so you're just going to have to watch it if you want to know. All I can say is that it reminds me a bit of the Adult Swim show Robot Chicken. You know, if Robot Chicken were filmed entirely in World of Warcraft. (No, it doesn't hit RC's levels of shocking, but it is a collection of odd, amusing, and completely unrelated skits.)Previously on Moviewatch...

  • WoW Moviewatch: The reckoning bomb

This video is not remotely new (though this copy is recently reposted), but since I don't think we've ever posted it, I thought I'd share this little piece of Warcraft history with you all. The paladin skill reckoning, while still darned handy, used to be much more powerful. For those who don't know, reckoning is a talented ability which gives the paladin, when hit by a critical strike, a chance of dealing an extra attack within a certain amount of time. However, in its original implementation, reckoning didn't have a time limit on its usage and would stack infinitely. As an example of how powerful this could be, here we see a paladin, who has saved up thousands of reckoning charges (by allowing himself to be crit repeatedly without striking back -- to the best of my knowledge with the help of a friendly rogue), one-shotting Kazzak. Yes, I'm talking about Kazzak the 40-man raid boss.It doesn't surprise me that the ability was hotfixed within 24 hours. Not at all.Previously on Moviewatch...

Are you familiar with the machinima-maker Oxhorn? If not, you should be! In the 2006 Xfire Summer Movie Contest he won first place for short feature and fourth place for comedy. So if you haven't seen any of his videos before, you can check out some of his videos that we've featured on WoW Moviewatch before or jump straight to his YouTube profile for a some real entertainment. And, of course, linked above is perhaps my favorite Oxhorn video, the Anti-Elf Anthem. So why am I talking to you about Oxhorn? We're going to be interviewing him, and want your input on what to ask. Have any burning questions about World of Warcraft or machinima-making that you'd like Oxhorn to to answer? Ask away in our comments, and we'll pick the best to ask Oxhorn next week.

  • WoW Moviewatch: The moat of Lagforge

If you've never played alliance side, you probably won't understand where this video is coming from, but I'll try to explain. Along the outer ring of Ironforge, near the city's entrance is a deep pit. (Fortunately, Blizzard was merciful enough to provide a grating at the bottom, instead of having the pit end in the pool of molten lava below.) I'm sure such a pit, with bridges across it in places, is a key point of the city's defenses, but when running through the center of a heavily populated Ironforge (imagine the pre-BC crowds that would congregate here) having a giant pit separating the bank and mailbox from the auction house is just incredibly inconvenient for the casual shopper, who would often find him or herself lagged straight to the bottom of the pit. Sigh!Previously on Moviewatch...

When I first saw this video, I just couldn't stop laughing. Of course the leetspeaking undead in Oxhorn's machinima always cracks me up, but this particular spoof had me, well, rotflmao. Of course, a knowledge of what's being spoofed might contribute to that -- so if you watch the video and find yourself confused as to what's so funny, perhaps you might appreciate this version, made famous on the Muppet Show. And if you still don't see the humor, well, I'm afraid I just can't help you!Previously on Moviewatch...

I have no idea if this is a joke or not, but either way it's quite amusing. What do you think -- does NBA player Yao Ming play World of Warcraft? (And does anyone else want to say "lrn2pvp nub!"?)Previously on Moviewatch...

This video (an excellent piece of investigative journalism by moviemaker Nilzor) raises some serious questions about the scourge's most recent invasion of Azeroth. Who exactly were they expecting to fool with those flimsy floating necropolises? Well, apparently they managed to fool all of us -- but we'll know better next time!Previously on Moviewatch...

If you fly around Outland enough you can find some interesting places that you wouldn't otherwise be able to reach -- like this mysterious place. A sign lists this quiet hut as "Challe's Home for Little Tykes" and, while Challe is nowhere to be found, the tykes are everywhere. However, I do think moviemaker Pwnda may have overreacted...Previously on Moviewatch...

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you mixed trance music with the games World of Warcraft, Unreal Tournament, Final Fantasy VII, and Wip3out? Me neither, but machinima-maker BaronSoosdon has. And for your viewing pleasure this evening, we present the video Unlimited Escapism, vol. 1, a pretty piece of moviemaking that blends scenes from all the above (though it seems WoW-heavy to me) quite well.Previously on Moviewatch...

Pallyimba Pictures presents: Murkilla! This is the stuff of nightmares, and it really can't be explained -- you're going to have to hit the play button up there and see it for yourself. And, content aside, the video's a very well-done piece of machinima. I personally can't wait to see the sequel, but will it be Murkilla vs. Mothra or Murkilla vs. Mechamurkilla or something else entirely?Previously on Moviewatch...

Most major city invasions I've seen are pure zergfests, with "strategy" equating to numbers. However, this video, detailing an Ironforge invasion by Goon Squad shows that you can get the job done with fewer numbers and more finesse. Oh, that and a flask of petrification. (But, really, it's worth the materials cost for the entertainment value of killing so many opposing faction members, don't you think?)Previously on Moviewatch...

Paladin Regis of Sunstrider (EU) offers us this sample of a paladin's abilities at level 70. And while you may believe that Scarlet Monastery isn't the most challenging place to test your skills, I'm not certain which classes, other than the paladin, have the ability to take out the whole instance at once, even at level 70. Warriors could equal them in damage mitigation, but don't have the same AoE options. And mages could certainly best paladins at the AoE game, but probably couldn't take that much of a beating. Am I wrong? You're welcome to prove it with a video of your own!Previously on Moviewatch...

Honestly -- any newb can get on a boat and ride it someplace. But it takes a truly skilled (or bored) player to surf like this from continent to continent! (Funny, you think he'd drown in the great sea over that long a trip.) And all I want to know is who was bored enough to figure out this trick in the first place...Previously on Moviewatch...

Loyal reader SirCasey took the trouble of leafing through all our Moviewatches to make sure we hadn't posted this vid already, and then tipped us off to it -- thanks! I like this piece quite a bit, even if it is a bit old (July '06). I'm pretty sure my school would be Darnassus, out of the options presented here. To update it a bit, what do you guys think Exodar College would be like (Exodar Institute of Technology?), or the University of Outland at Shattrath? Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go raid my kitchen...

You've heard me talk about the dangers of the Undercity elevators, but this is a variation on the theme that I hadn't seen before. While it looks just as dangerous as falling from the top of the elevators, fortunately the platform will not squish you on the way down if you manage to get yourself stuck there.Previously, on Moviewatch...
