  • Addon Spotlight: Reforgenator

Each week, WoW Insider brings you a fresh look at reader-submitted UIs as well as Addon Spotlight, which focuses on the backbone of the WoW gameplay experience: the user interface. Everything from bags to bars, buttons to DPS meters and beyond -- your addons folder will never be the same. This week, reforge with ease. Ah, reforging. Sometimes, reforging is the bane of my existence. Other times, this new gear customization shoots rainbows into my brain and shows me visions of other worldly delights. I hold a potentially popular belief: reforging is one of the best, if not the best, new features in Cataclysm. Either put down your pitchforks or raise your glasses higher in toast to me, whichever you feel necessary. Gone are the days of missing out on an upgrade because it doesn't have the perfect stats -- just make a new piece of gear that is almost there in terms of quality, and you're set. The problem with reforging, though, is the trial-and-error aspect for many classes. Sometimes it would be nice to just know what you need to reforge or even what pieces of gear you could tweak just a little bit to squeeze a little more performance out of. An addon that could help out with reforging would be pretty sweet, huh? You know it.

Each week, WoW Insider brings you a fresh look at reader-submitted UIs as well as Addon Spotlight, which spotlights the latest user interface addons. Have a screenshot of your own UI that you'd like to submit? Send your screenshots, along with info on what mods you're using, to readerui@wow.com. Ladies and gentlmen, boys and girls, I welcome you to another wonderful edition of Reader UI of the Week, WoW Insider's community user interface feature where you, the reader, get to show off your screen. This is my 50th Reader UI of the Week, marking a huge milestone for me. I have been having the time of my life writing for WoW Insider, and I cannot believe it's already been 50 weeks. It's almost my one-year anniversary. What are you going to get me, community? You still have time to pick out the gifts ... This week, reader Adam shows off his UI that has to play two roles for two different classes. Many people are playing alts these days, and user interfaces are playing multiple roles more and more. Let's take this opportunity, then, to talk about ways the UI can be set up for multiple classes and multiple roles. Let's get this party started.

This week, announce yourself with style and grace! As Cataclysm chugs along and we grow more and more accustomed to the way things will be from here on out, some addons rise to the top of the importance list. Luckily, here on Addon Spotlight, we get to examine these new essentials and let you know some of the cooler tools you can use to make life in Azeroth a little bit easier. Today, we're talking interrupts. Well, there's more than interrupts going on here, but the reason I love this addon is mainly its interrupt-announcing abilities. Lost? Don't feel bad. Get ready to introduce yourself to one of your new best friends, Raeli's Spell Announcer.

Everything from bags to bars, buttons to DPS meters and beyond -- your addons folder will never be the same. This week, make your castbar round?! Whaaaaat? Addon Spotlight fans, rejoice! The first installment of your favorite column for 2011 is here, and we're going to start off with a good one. Take a seat, grab a hot cup of tea, and settle in for some addon goodness. In the middle of writing Addon Spotlight for this week (which will become next week's), a friend of mine shot a link across the interwebs to me via instant message. "Here's an addon I think you would like," he said. Well, "like" is an understatement. I love CursorCastbar not only for the functionality that it brings but the aesthetics of a radial castbar. This is exciting.

Happy 2011, everyone! I hope your New Year's was an excellent one. Reader UI of the Week is going to do things a bit differently today, as I return to where I began, so many months ago, and talk about the evolution of my own user interface as well as wrap up 2010 with a little review of the biggest things to take away from the column last year. In addition, we have a very generous offering from Vhei, last week's Reader UI of the Week, with a video describing how to achieve his setup and some links for the artwork. If you're an adventurous user, you may want to check that out.

This week, I spotlight your suggestions for Community Choice 3! It has come to my attention that there are worgen in Cataclysm. Like... wolf people. Real-life wolf people. I see them scampering about the fields of battle and inside the keeps of Tol Barad, sniffing the ground, frolicking in the grass, and chasing abandoned siege vehicles. Bark all you want, worgen -- you aren't taking The Slagworks. As a Horde player, seeing worgen is a novelty for me. And, for the most part, I see worgen in their combat wolf-state -- a growling, menacing wolf man who will occasionally act like a worgen mage and make funny arm motions at me. Is he trying to tell me something? What is is, boy? What is it? The Alliance are losing Warden's Vigil?! Come quick?!

Have a screenshot of your own UI that you'd like to submit? Send your screenshots, along with info on what mods you're using, to readerui@wow.com. There is so much snow on the ground right now that I can barely leave my house, even if I wanted to. Insanity has engulfed the city; snow madness will soon set in. Why do people live in these terrible climates again? Oy. Hopefully, dear reader, you are somewhere nice and warm, kicking your feet up on the desk and giving yourself the break you deserve with some Reader UI of the Week. You might remember Vhei from a long while back -- in June, to be exact -- when we looked at Ve's UI. Same person, new name. Back then, Ve's UI was a nice, segmented interface that relied on strong border contrasts to separate interface elements from one another. I probably said something like, "I don't like spaces!" You know me all too well. Ve, now Vhei, has returned with a new offering, one that I very much enjoy, since I'm a sucker for good texture work. So stand back as I plow through this column like the snow plow that never showed up on my street. Please send help. There's so much snow.

This week, I spotlight your suggestions for Community Choice 3! Oh, WoW Insider community, you always pull through for me. This week, we're doing another Community Choice Addon Spotlight highlighting some of your favorite addons. When I'm not ranting about Tol Barad, I'm writing about addons. What that means is I get to read a lot about addons and people's impressions of them. It's nice, once in a while, to have you guys recommend something for me to feature. Hey, this whole column is all about getting information to you guys, so it's a real boon to the community to have your input as well. Remember, you can email any addons you think deserve the spotlight to mat@wow.com.

Have a screenshot of your own UI that you'd like to submit? Send your screenshots, along with info on what mods you're using, to readerui@wow.com. Welcome back to Reader UI of the Week, WoW Insider's look into the community's interface folder to see what setups you, the reader, are sporting every day in Azeroth. Last week, there was a lot of positive response to Quantus' UI, a re-creation and slimming down of the popular Spartan UI, using the art and assets to create a much more compact version of the UI overhaul. I'm in the process of writing up a guide on how to achieve something similar, and like most things in life, it turned out to be a bit more complicated than you'd imagine. Welp. Look for it soon, though, and you too will be basking in some wonderful Quantus UI. Until then, we still have a giant community to comb for new ideas and inspiration. This week, I wanted to feature Almagest's UI, a nice setup for tanks that emphasizes buff and debuff visualization, as well as compartmentalizing each UI function with bold borders. Setting up something like Almagest's configuration is also a great way to take the next step up in UI management by learning simple uses for kgPanels. Let's have a look, shall we?

Each week, WoW Insider brings you a fresh look at reader-submitted UIs as well as Addon Spotlight, which focuses on the backbone of the WoW gameplay experience: the user interface. Everything from bags to bars, buttons to DPS meters and beyond -- your addons folder will never be the same. This week, we go digging for surprises. Greetings, friends. I trust Cataclysm content has been as fun for you as it has for me? Finally having settled in, I've started to power through my trade skills and new professions. Archaeology was something I purposefully abstained from in the beta, mostly because it was the piece of new content I wanted to experience fresh. So after reaching 85 and heading off on new archaeological adventures, I was instantly hooked.

Have a screenshot of your own UI that you'd like to submit? Send your screenshots, along with info on what mods you're using, to readerui@wow.com. I'm still taking submissions for another Community Choice Addon Spotlight! Email me your favorite addons at mat@wow.com. I have been enjoying Cataclysm way more than I thought I would. Sure, I knew that the expansion was going to be a great experience, and my beta testing time was filled with awesome dungeon runs and getting a feel for the lay of the land, but I never could imagine how the community could come together so quickly on the live servers. Everything has been really great so far, and I've been enjoying every second of it. A lot of my enjoyment of the new content has come from the fact that all of my addons and interface elements did not explode when the new content went live. Having a few weeks to tinker around with our UIs helped a huge amount in getting everything ready for the new expansion. Thank you, Blizzard. Let's do that every time. This week, Reader UI checks out Quantus' UI, a nice and clean user interface that takes a bunch of interface elements and does some unique things with them that I didn't really consider. I think you'll get some great ideas from Quantus' setup, especially the way certain elements on the bottom bar relate to each other.

This week, the doctor is in. Welcome to the first Addon Spotlight post-Cataclysm edition! With the release of Cataclysm and the subsequent changing of environments, instances, raid and dungeon progress, and everything in between, certain addons that we've come to rely on continue to thrive or slowly die out as the world's needs change. Little forgotten addons, we salute you and hope that you find a way back into our hearts. This week, your HMO better cover out-of-system doctors, because we're going to the best. Occasionally called "Doctor TMI" among my friends, DrDamage is a beefy little addon that adds a completely new level of understanding and information to your damage and healing abilities. Sometimes you learn a little too much about your skills. Nonetheless, DrDamage is a unique addon that can help you feel your way through Cataclysm's new skills and abilities, making you a heroic king again in no time.

Have a screenshot of your own UI that you'd like to submit? Send your screenshots, along with info on what mods you're using, to readerui@wow.com. Today is an auspicious day. Those of you stuck at work or dealing with other responsibilities are clamoring for the chance to jump into the new Cataclysm content. Fear not -- Reader UI of the Week is here to distract your thoughts for a few moments, letting you breathe a sigh of momentary relief from imagining the vast depths of Vashj'ir, the embattled earth realm of Deepholm, and the multitude of new, fun dungeons you could be playing right now. Patience is a virtue, no? This week, Reader UI looks at Dinte's UI, a quirky, constantly under construction piece of work that offers a minimalist approach to healing without sacrificing the screen space needed to do the job effectively. At first, I was skeptical, but after reading the philosophy behind the setup, I was more sold. I think you'll enjoy this one.

This week, Grab Bag Part 3: The Search for More Money. With Cataclysm a mere four days away (and a super-special live WoW Insider Show tomorrow), excitement is at an all-time high. It has been a while since we've had this level of excitement, and believe me, I have not been immune to it. I've been pouring over quest progression, making wish lists for gear in Atlastloot, and just generally anticipating an awesome Cataclysm launch. I still can't believe it's happening so soon. People seem to enjoy the grab bag Addon Spotlight features, especially when they find something brand new that changes the way they play WoW in some fashion. This week, I've got a diverse grab bag for you. We're going to look at one addon used for interface customization, a pet/mount addon you might not have heard of, and something for you paladins out there.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to another exciting episode of Reader UI of the Week. Here at Reader UI, we love community-submitted interfaces and learning from one another, sharing tips and tricks, and having fun figuring out all things user interface. The countdown clock shows only seven days to go until Cataclysm, so be prepared, and you'll be ready to roll on launch day. This week's submission comes from Kormex from the Norgannon server. In the spirit of catering to every type of screen resolution (as people constantly email me about), I thought we could all glean a good deal of information by checking out Kormex's setup on a resolution other than a wide screen. Let's see what we can learn, shall we?

  • Addon Spotlight: Atlasloot v6 offers more than boss loot

Each week, WoW Insider brings you a fresh look at reader-submitted UIs as well as Addon Spotlight, which focuses on the backbone of the WoW gameplay experience: the user interface. Everything from bags to bars, buttons to DPS meters and beyond -- your addons folder will never be the same. This week, start Cataclysm off right with Atlasloot. The Shattering has come and the world has been sundered. Thankfully, with all that shattering and shaking, a ton of new stuff came with it. What's our favorite new thing, you ask? Why, loot of course. Lots of lots of brand new, shiny loot has appeared to sink our teeth into, which is why I am super-happy to talk about the new Atlasloot today. Atlasloot is one of those ubiqitous addons that has been around for such a long time, you forget a time before it existed. Atlasloot has been a loot repository for so long that, when my mind begins to wonder what particular loot drops from a boss, muscle memory immediately begins typing in /atlasloot.

Have a screenshot of your own UI that you'd like to submit? Send your screenshots, along with info on what mods you're using, to readerui@wow.com. Did it happen? Did the world shatter under the might of Deathwing? I'm only guessing yes, considering I write Reader UI of the Week in advance being published. Otherwise, this would be a live Reader UI of the Week, and I don't think I could type that fast and without so many exclamation points. If The Shattering did happen, then I'm sorry all your stuff is broken. If The Shattering did not happen, having extra chances for the tiger mount is awesome but probably isn't going to happen. Much like how Azeroth is being torn asunder and being brought back to the basics, we here at Reader UI of the Week are following suit by bringing the user interface back to the basics. Alluren sent me a submission with a purpose: get back to the basics and put together a laptop interface that has as few addons as possible. The world is getting reforged, so why not reforge some addons as well?

Each week, WoW Insider brings you a fresh look at reader-submitted UIs as well as Addon Spotlight, which focuses on the backbone of the WoW gameplay experience: the user interface. Everything from bags to bars, buttons to DPS meters and beyond -- your addons folder will never be the same. This week, I am impressed with Elv's tukui revamp. It is rare that I find a full interface replacement that makes me so enthralled that I must turn The Spotlight to it. The Spotlight is truly a powerful tool. A friend was experimenting with tukui, a very capable and gorgeous full interface replacement, but was just having a few nitpicky issues with the whole package. There were just a few things he wanted implemented differently, and he began the search for interface nirvana.

Have a screenshot of your own UI that you'd like to submit? Send your screenshots, along with info on what mods you're using, to readerui@wow.com. Welcome to another exciting episode of Reader UI of the Week, your repository of all things community user interfaces. I'm still working on my upgrades to my UI for Cataclysm, so you fine people don't get to see my deal yet. Soon. Soon. In the meantime, why don't we check out a submission from the ol' email box? Speaking of, I would love to get another big backlog of reader UI submissions that are Cataclysm-themed or designed specifically for the new expansion. If you've got something you've been working on for expansion day, show me! I would love to spotlight some Cataclysm user interfaces that are going to happily see the light of day when the world comes to the brink of death. As Wrath of the Lich King comes to a close with elemental invasions, Thrall babysitting lots of tiny elemental babies, and cultists totally wrecking our cities, I wanted to feature Tian's user interface. Why feature a user interface with so much Wrath artwork and motif? I think I want to say goodbye to Wrath of the Lich King in the best way I can -- talking about the art and the user interface that showcases it.

As Cataclysm draws near, some addons have begun to bubble to the top of the awesome pile, especially for the new leveling experience soon to be upon us. You've probably stressed over your user interface, getting ready for the new expansion in ... wow ... less than a month. Time sure flies, huh? Anyway, how about you hit the ground running in Cataclysm with the BEST. ADDONS. EVER.
