Two Bosses Enter ... but only One Boss Leaves, in WoW.com's series of fantasy death matches. Welcome to Round Two of the five-man Wrath of the Lich King season. Grab a seat, and let's get ready to rumble! Gortok Palehoof and his menagerie of stuffed death came alive on Lavanthor in this week's Two Bosses Enter Thunderdome. The puppy barked up just 29% of the reader vote under Palehoof and Company's onslaught. Rai calls it for the winning team:Rai: Both Gortok and Lavanthor are essentially fighting for their freedom, as that's the situation they are faced with when you fight them in their respective instances. This might be an important point. As long as Lavanthor is stronger than each individual minion of Gortok, he should have no problem killing them in any order, until Gortok himself enters the fray. By this point, Lavanthor will be injured. Lavanthor would create some more distance between the pair, and the battle would become a fire-spittin', spear-throwin' ranged showdown.Assuming the spears aren't fireproof, with some careful aim (who am I kidding? lava spat all over the place), a lot of them might not even reach Lavanthor. However, Gortok would have been using Withering Roar this entire time, so Lavanthor's health is getting lower and lower ...A stray spear works around the lava and hits Lavanthor between the eyes. The puppy is down, but it's very close. If Gortok is lucky, he won't die from his burn injuries.

Two Bosses Enter ... but only One Boss Leaves, in WoW.com's series of fantasy death matches. Welcome to Round Two of the five-man Wrath of the Lich King season. Grab a seat, and let's get ready to rumble! This week's Two Bosses Thunderdome is a fantastical menagerie: Gortok Palehoof and his Utgarde Pinnacle menagerie against Lavanthor of the Violet Hold. Palehoof and Company sailed through the gamut of Old Stratholme in their first-round matchup against the Infinite Corruptor (the Culling of Stratholme), while Lavanthor chewed up Moragg like a discarded chew toy in his own first-round match. Will this week's matchup offer a more challenging battle for each? The ground rules: Assume that the opponents along with their collected minions share similar levels, health pools and comparative overall damage output. This deathmatch takes place in neutral territory, which shall not hinder either boss from using his usual encounter abilities. All the usual minions will be available to each boss. Don't get caught up in gameplay mechanics and what actual players might do in each encounter. Don't neglect style, story and scale. As Dr. Dealgood would say -- ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls ... Dyin' time's here.

Two Bosses Enter ... but only One Boss Leaves, in WoW.com's series of fantasy death matches. Welcome to Round Two of the five-man Wrath of the Lich King season. Grab a seat, and let's get ready to rumble! You're going to be kicking yourself if you didn't vote last week but believe Commander Stoutbeard (or Kolurg) should have defeated Krik'thir the Gatewatcher in the Two Bosses Thunderdome. The Gatewatcher scuttled past the Commanders to victory with a margin of less than 4% - a smaller number of readers than those who voted for a tie/uncertain decision.Nathan: Really, the fight all comes down to which of the two commanders ends up fighting Krik'thir. If the battle comes down to a Dwarf Warrior versus a giant overgrown spider ... well, Dwarves are way more awesome. An Orc, on the other hand, while awesome in his own way, would simply not have what it takes to defeat Krik'thir and his minions. Here's how it would go down if it's Commander Stoutbeard doing the fighting: Commander Stoutbeard and his posse encounter Krik'thir and his spiders; Krik'thir and his first group of minions immediately attack, but Stoutbeard quickly Whirlwinds Krik'thir's minions to death while being healed by his Priests, keeping him from taking serious damage. Puzzled at his small enemy's resistance to damage, Krik'thir draws back in momentary puzzlement and to summon another group of minions into the fight. Taking advantage of the momentary respite, Stoutbeard challenges the spider to a drinking contest; the spider at first refuses, but Stoutbeard loudly mocks the spider, calling him a coward and insulting his mother. Krik'thir, embarrassed at being mocked in front of his remaining minions, accepts the challenge.

Two Bosses Enter ... but only One Boss Leaves, in WoW.com's series of fantasy death matches. Welcome to Round Two of the five-man Wrath of the Lich King season. Grab a seat, and let's get ready to rumble! Here's a nasty melee match for this week's Two Bosses Thunderdome: Commander Kolurg/Stoutbeard of The Nexus versus Krik'thir the Gatewatcher from Azjol-Nerub. You may want to wear a splatter guard if you're sitting near the fence on this one - we can only imagine the carnage as the Commander's Whirlwind makes contact with Krik'thir's minions. The ground rules: Assume that the opponents and any minions share similar levels, health pools and comparative overall damage output. This deathmatch takes place in neutral territory, which shall not hinder either boss from using his usual encounter abilities. All the usual minions will be available to each boss. Two Bosses Enter ... but only One Boss Leaves, in WoW.com's series of fantasy death matches. Welcome to Round Two of the five-man Wrath of the Lich King season. Grab a seat, and let's get ready to rumble! Keristrasza (tail) swept to another decisive victory this week to obliterate Zuramat the Obliterator by an even larger margin than her 75% first-round win over Cyanigosa. With just a hair less than 80% of the vote this week, the red dragon blasted her way through Zuramat's Void Sentries. The view from the spectator stands:Eddie: The dragon would win if, and only if, the sentries get hit with Intense Cold. If not, then its a clear with for Z. Gunna need some clarification for this one. I think that all the people saying the dragon win is based on the Sentries biting the dust because of Intense Cold.Invierna: You're right, but that's what would happen. One of Zuramat's abilities involves Void Shift on a random player. In this case, Keri would be solo, and could thus destroy the sentries with Intense Cold debuffs. Since Zuramat himself isn't responsible for most player deaths - his Sentries are - I'd give this fight to Keri. It seems currently 82% of readers agree.

Grab a seat, and let's get ready to rumble! Welcome back, everybody, to another edition of the Two Bosses Thunderdome! This week's deathmatch pits Keristrasza of The Nexus against Zuramat the Obliterator from the Violet Hold. Keristrasza enters the ring with one of the largest win margins of any competitor this season, glowing after a 75% victory over Cyanigosa in the first round of matches. Zuramat the Obliterator brings plenty of power of his own, however, following up a decisive 55% win over Hadronox in round one.The ground rules: Assume that the opponents and any minions share similar levels, health pools and comparative overall damage output. It was Troll versus Troll this week, as Gal'darah and Moorabi squared off in the Two Bosses Thunderdome. Gal'darah impaled an easy victory, sweeping to a win with 68 percent of the reader vote. (However, nearly 9 percent of voters didn't award victory to either combatant. We didn't find their rationale in the comments anywhere ... Who knows what they were thinking?)Kar On E: Welcome to the Pachyderm playoff, everyone! This match kind of reminds me of a trip I took to the zoo recently. I saw several elephants and a couple of rhinos. Although I think in RL that an elephant might be able to take on a rhino, I believe that the rhino takes it in this case. First of all, Moorabi won't be able to transform if he spends most of the fight impaled. Even if not impaled when he tries to transform, there's still the small matter of charging ghost rhinos (which would be a great band name). Finally, even if the elephant transformation happens, that doesn't mean that Gal can't impale him ... it just means that he might not be able to juggle him in the air quite as easily. For my money, Gal'darah will prove to be the most powerful pachyderm in the place.

Two Bosses Enter ... but only One Boss Leaves, in WoW.com's series of fantasy death matches. Welcome to Round Two of the five-man Wrath of the Lich King season. Grab a seat, and let's get ready to rumble! Prince Taldaram claimed he would drink no blood before his time – and thus, he ran dry in last week's Thunderdome matchup with Chrono-Lord Epoch. The Chrono-Lord held off the Prince by a margin of nearly 10% of the popular vote, and pulling out a victory that could truly be characterized as "just in time."Clydtsdk-Rivendare called the fight: Five words to stop you: Can't do that while stunned. In all seriousness, it depends. If this were in game, Taldaram would have a massive edge, what with the life drain. However, in theory, CLE is able to travel in time; thus, if he makes a mistake in combat, he could correct it. Lemme give a short roundup.

Two Bosses Enter ... but only One Boss Leaves, in WoW.com's series of fantasy death matches. Welcome to Round Two of the five-man Wrath of the Lich King season. Grab a seat, and let's get ready to rumble! With a decisive 63 percent of the vote, Mal'ganis made firewood of Ormorok the Tree-Shaper in this week's Two Bosses Enter deathmatch. The matchup demonstrated the division between the two camps who vote in this series: those who base their decisions more on lore, and those who base their decisions more on the bosses and their mechanics as they are presented in the match itself. "Even though Mal'ganis' abilities pose much less of a threat than Ormorok's do in this case ... I couldn't vote against him, because he's Mal'ganis," confessed andrewlnagy. "Lore-wise, I just don't think he'd lose." Tridus countered, "How so? In lore, there's no fight he actually wins. He's a commander and a manipulator, not a direct fighter. Forced to fight directly, he's never actually won a battle anywhere in lore. He has lost several, though. This 'Oh, in lore, I'm sure he'd win' stuff isn't grounded in any actual lore. :P" "Mal'Ganis had to be killed the first time with the most powerful weapon in Azeroth," noted BlazingSky. "Ormorok was killed by five guys with mundane equipment. I'm going to have to go with a character that, while he is the evil version of brave Sir Robin, still required a runeblade to put him down semi-permanently."Should "having lore" be an advantage in these fights? Does a boss' history dictate how he will react in today's deathmatches? Must these matches rely solely on abilities as set forth in each match? We suspect the best solution to these questions lies in blending these perspectives. We'll leave it to our readers to show us how they balance the mix through their votes.

You knew he was going to win, even before you saw who he was going up against – he's just built that kind of a rep. As with all Two Bosses Enter, One Boss Leaves matches, however, it's how they get there that makes it interesting. Apologies that I wasn't able to wrap up this battle for you last week while I was on vacation. Rest assured that I'd never leave our hungry spectators hanging! This week, let's look back at some of the lore-based points readers brought out about Loken versus Ley-Guardian Eregos.Rai: Even if by some miracle Loken managed to win, due to Eregos' being faster, able to shift and most likely being more intelligent, he'd still die. Something so powerful that doesn't require five Drakes and coordination to take down the Ley-Guardian is bound to attract the attention of Malygos ...Tridus: "Something so powerful that doesn't require five Drakes and coordination to take down the Ley-Guardian is bound to attract the attention of Malygos ..." Two Bosses Enter ... but only One Boss Leaves, in WoW.com's series of fantasy death matches. This season's bosses come from the five-man instances of Wrath of the Lich King. We've witnessed some pretty strange matchups during the first round of the Wrath five-man boss season of Two Bosses Enter, One Boss Leaves. We think the first bracket has successfully set the baseline: it's not who wins or loses – it's how they play the game. You folks out there in the stands have been great. We've evolved beyond lame comments droning on about "X is a boss?!? HAHAHA Y wins, my group beats X every time," to recent battles, with truly captivating scenarios such as Bobobe's ironic twist at the end of last week's Anub'Arak versus Elder Nadox battle. For the final match of this season's first bracket of battles, we present to you another unusual (even in TBE's terms) scenario featuring two bosses that are probably among players most dreaded bosses: Ley-Guardian Eregos of The Oculus versus Loken from the Halls of Lightning. Yeah, yeah, we know ... the Drakes ... Come on, you didn't really think we were going to perch Loken atop one Super-Drake with all the abilities, did you? It's a fantasy series! Loosen up your deathgrip on those Drake reins, and let's look at this week's ground rules. The Drakes are out. Poof – gone. Assume that Eregos and Loken share similar levels, health pools and comparative overall damage output. Do me a favor and read the previous bullet point again, please? This deathmatch takes place in neutral territory. Ley-Guardian Eregos will be able to summon his Whelps. Gameplay mechanics are significantly different here, since we have no Drakes. Don't worry about what actual players and Drakes might do in the encounter; they're not here. Focus on the three S's: style, story and scale. Now, we all know who will probably capture the most votes – but without the Drakes and a comparatively level playing field for damage done, are you certain? Join us after the break to cast your vote and tell us how you think the winner pulls it off.

Two Bosses Enter ... but only One Boss Leaves, in WoW.com's series of fantasy death matches. This season's bosses come from the five-man instances of Wrath of the Lich King.We had to do it. Both Anub'arak and Elder Nadox have been waiting patiently all season for their chance in the ring, after all. But did anyone think this Two Bosses Enter matchup would come out any other way? "Anub'arak wins, mandibles down," states faithful reader aarsej. "The truth is, Anub'arak is actually Hogger in disguise." Reader votes might actually support that conclusion: Anub'Arak supporters pushed this fight perilously close to a 90% slaughterfest.Clydtsdk-Rivendare called it for the few dissenters.Clydtsdk-Rivendare: This one is actually really close, IMO. Both mobs go invincible and summon adds, so it really all comes down to Nadox being smart enough to realize how strong Pound really is. If Nadox is invincible when Anub'arak uses Pound, Nadox wins. Otherwise, the sheer force of the blow tilts the scales heavily towards Anub.... To make Nadox's add situation make sense, we'll set this fight in his "nest," if you will. Anub's adds come in from either doorway (the geography of this always confused me). Nadox is out of the nest for whatever reason, but when she returns, she sees Anub about to kill her kids. Nadox runs forward to engage Anub. Anub and Nadox trade blows for a while, when Anub sets off Carrion Beetles. Nadox sends his small adds to take care of these while she continues after Anub.

Two Bosses Enter ... but only One Boss Leaves, in WoW.com's series of fantasy death matches. This season's bosses come from the five-man instances of Wrath of the Lich King.King Dred demonstrated how he earned his title in this week's Two Bosses Enter, One Boss Leaves, shredding Jedoga Shadowseeker with nearly three-fourths of the reader vote. Delightfully, quite a few fans stepped up to the plate this week with their own versions of how this deathmatch would go down. Let's look at a few of the more entertaining narratives.Blasterion: The face-off: Jedoga calls for her minions, while Dred calls one raptor to combat. Dred Grievous Bites Jedoga, as well as puts up his other debuffs. Jedoga calls for her first minion to be sacrificed. Dred uses his fear; the minion runs around while the raptor minion and Dred pick him off. DELICIOUS. Jedoga comes down, irritated how her minions were weak. She casts Thundershock and kills the raptor. The minions to their masters are different; to Jedoga, her minions are tools, but to Dred, his raptors are loyal subjects. Enraged, Dred savagely destroys Jedoga and the rest of her minions. DELICIOUS.

Two Bosses Enter ... but only One Boss Leaves, in WoW.com's series of fantasy death matches. This season's bosses come from the five-man instances of Wrath of the Lich King.It was a bloody job, but someone had to do it – and that someone was Moorabi. The High Prophet of Man'toth made a mammoth mess as he gored Trollgore in this week's Two Bosses Enter, One Boss Leaves. Sixty-five percent of readers handed this week's deathmatch to the Ice Troll. Spectators Heilig, Rowan and Grinton mulled it over from the stands:Heilig: You're all forgetting the adds. Moorabi has no way to deal with the adds. If he ignores them, Trollgore gets buffed dramatically as the adds stack up and the Consume stacks to ridiculous levels. If he kills them, he gets raped by Corpse Explosions. There's a reason you tank Trollgore away from the person handling the adds, you know. Moorabi has no way to deal with this. Trollgore wins by a mile.Rowan: He has Quake and Ground Tremor -- that's two AoEs! With adds being non-elite, he can easily pulverize them before they get too close to Trollgore. Moorabi wins this, hands down.Heilig: Ground Tremor is close range, and Quake is primarily a stun. The adds wouldn't die until they got to Trollgore, whereupon he would explode the corpses right into Moorabi's trunk. Game over.Grinton: What this fight comes down to is a battle of tusks. And though Trollgore would start off with the upper lower-bite, it's hard to beat what that pachyderm is paching (badum-tish!). Also, to respond to Heilig, Moorabi has two abilities to control adds. So between the stomping and the tusks, Moorabi wins by a long shot.
