  • FCC meets, greets NAM version of Nokia's XpressMusic 5320

A non-Nseries S60 Nokia with HSDPA 850 / 1900 -- now there's a novel concept. The XpressMusic 5320 isn't quite as funky looking as its good buddy, the 5220, but we'll take what we can get (and really, there's still a touch of funkiness going on in that crazy keypad there anyway). Nokia has actually only announced this version for Latin America at this point, but what do you wanna bet a heaping handful of 'em make it up to the more northerly regions of the hemisphere?

  • Nokia XpressMusic 5800 "Tube" turns up in German poster

Nokia's 5800 "Tube" handset hasn't exactly been doing the best job staying under cover, and it's now turned up yet again to offer another sign of its presumably imminent launch, this time in a poster for Germany's SMS Shop. Somewhat curiously, the touchscreen-based device (S60, specifically) is now apparently branded with the XpressMusic moniker, rather than XpressMedia, although your guess is as good as ours as to what that might indicate. Otherwise, the only tidbits the poster has to offer is that the device does in fact boast WLAN and HSDPA capabilities, although given that all the other phones in the poster have been officially announced, it seems safe to bet that we should be hearing more about the 5800 straight from Nokia sooner rather than later.[Thanks, Dax]

  • Hop-On HOP1803 shamelessly apes Nokia XpressMusic 5310

So Hop-On apparently got tired of showing rendered vaporware after rendered vaporware and finally came to the table with some real products, but there's a little problem: one of them, the HOP1803, is a dead ringer for Nokia's XpressMusic 5310. We figure Hop-On probably just went to their friendly local manufacturer in Shenzen and ordered a handful of products to start distributing, which is totally cool, but they either failed to turn on their blatant ripoff radar while they were shopping around or simply didn't care. If it's any consolation, Nokia, the 5310's specs totally smack around the HOP1803's, though we're guessing the "X-Press Music" branding on the side of the doppelganger might still attract some legal wrath -- especially since Hop-On allegedly plans to try hawking this thing in the States.[Via Slashphone]

  • Nokia's N79, N85, and XpressMedia 5800 "Tube" exposed?

Random flickr feeds aren't the typical way for hot new Nokias to be discovered out in the environs, but hey, who are we to question a good thing when we see it? Pictures of one totally unknown Nseries have emerged -- alleged to be the N79 -- showing a sublime S60 candybar in a pair of colors. Next, we have more of the just-scooped N85, including some of a white version, so we're definitely feeling more confident by the minute that it's the real deal and not some ridiculously sophisticated fake. Last but certainly not least, we have some shots of the XpressMedia 5800 affectionately known as the "Tube," a device that'll likely come to be Nokia's first to use S60 Touch. This one is Vodafone branded (doesn't really surprise us, we guess) and features a 3.2 megapixel sensor with Carl Zeiss optics, a stylus, and the key to our hearts. How much longer do we have to wait for these, Nokia?[Via Talk About Nseries]

Weird -- doesn't that shot above look scarily similar to this one? Okay, minus the coinage, paperwork and miniaturized human. Seems that Nokia's XpressMusic 5610 found its way into Panic at the Disco's That Green Gentleman video, but considering how it gets walked all over and completely disregarded after the 40 second mark, we doubt it stands much chance of getting into the guys' hearts.[Thanks, Jimmy]

  • Rogers right behind T-Mobile, launches Nokia 5310 XpressMusic

Nokia's 9.9mm wonder with the 3.5mm headphone jack, the 5310 XpressMusic, has found its way north from T-Mobile to Canada's Rogers. In a best-case scenario, the phone will run you $99.99 CAD (about $101) on a three-year contract after rebate, which includes a 1GB microSD card in-box -- but let's be honest, we both know that you'll want something just a little bit beefier than 1GB if you're serious enough about your music to put this one in your pocket, so expect to spend just a little bit more by the time it's all said and done.[Via MobileSyrup]

  • Details emerge on T-Mobile's upcoming Samsung and Nokia releases

We're still kinda weirded out by that figure of six-frickin'-teen new handsets for T-Mob between now and August, but details on five of those alleged sixteen is a solid start. Boy Genius Report has scored internal release information on three Nokias and two well-known Samsungs, the t229 and t339. Starting with the Sammies, the t229 will be launching in red (and red only) to shore up the low end with what seems to be a VGA camera, Bluetooth, and not much else, while the t339 will offer WiFi for HotSpot@Home compatibility and a 1.3 megapixel cam; both will be available in June. On the Nokia side, the XpressMusic 5610 slider (which we've seen in T-Mobile trim courtesy of the FCC) will be joining the just-announced 5310, though the carrier has yet to determine a launch window for this one. The forgettable 2760 clam launches on June 16 -- nothing more to be said about that one -- and finally, the 6301 with WiFi gets real on June 23. We're holding out for the new Shadows, but yeah, it seems like a fun time to be a T-Mobile customer -- particularly if you're into the UMA stuff.

T-Mobile's no stranger to Nokia's XpressMusic series of funky little music phones, and the tradition continues today with the introduction of the 5310. This colorful candybar has some pretty solid street cred as a viable music player, too, with a microSD slot, svelte 9.9mm body and -- most importantly -- a real 3.5mm jack for the headphones of your choosing. You've also got a 2 megapixel camera and a QVGA display to play with, both of which'll surely come in handy for entertainment while you're waiting for data to pull down over the EDGE radio (sorry, T-Mobile, we couldn't help ourselves). It'll run $49.99 on contract starting May 28 in black with your choice of purple, orange, or red accents.

  • 16 devices for T-Mobile between June and August?

    05.20.2008

TmoNews has published a laundry list of devices that it says will launch between June 16 and August 1 -- 13, to be exact, with another three that aren't listed. That's a positively Japan-esque release pace, a breakneck schedule that we're having a hard time believing. To its credit, several launches that are known or well-rumored to be in the pipe are listed here, including the Motorola E8, Shadow II, Samsung t229 and t339, and Nokia 5610, but to its discredit, fanciful devices like an alleged Shadow III are also in the mix along with the BlackBerry Bold, which AT&T has an exclusive on following its launch over there that should easily prevent T-Mob from picking it up by August 1. Of course, there could be some wiggle room on those dates, and again, most of these devices seem totally plausible -- but for now we've got to file this squarely in the "we want to believe" category.[Thanks, Chris W.]

Those hankering for an exhaustive rundown of the just-announced 5320 XpressMusic's specifications need not conduct their search any further. Forum Nokia, Espoo's developer outreach branch, has gone ahead and done the dirty work of dredging up the details and plopping 'em all in one place, revealing roughly 85MB of usable memory on startup (a key stat, as any heavy Symbian user can attest) atop S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2. The lack of HSDPA 850 / 1900 (or a separate version of the phone rocking those bands) still stings to read -- like, physically causes our eyes to burn -- but hey, what can you do? Wait for the N78, that's what.[Via All About Symbian]

While we patiently wait for Nokia's current, "no major new products" fiscal quarter to expire, we'll have to trudge through releases like these 5320 (left) and 5220 (your other left) candybars. As members of the XpressMusic range the devices themselves are fine. Unfortunately, fine isn't going to win back that 1% lost market share. The 3G HSDPA 5320 (€220 / $351) features dedicated music and N-Gage gaming keys, a 3.5-mm headphone jack, up to 24-hours of play time, up to 8GB of expandable storage, and a "Say and Play" voice controlled playlist; speak the name of the artist or song you want and the phone will play it. The (€160 / $255) 5220 removes the HSDPA but adds a lanyard... hoorah!? Expect both to land in Europe sometime in Q3 2008.

  • Nokia 5610 spotted with T-Mobile branding -- but which T-Mobile?

    03.18.2008

It looks like we all missed this little gem tucked away in the Nokia XpressMusic 5610's FCC filing when it went public last month. Yep, your eyes aren't deceiving you -- you're looking at a T-Mobile logo front and center there. Only problem is, we can't figure out which T-Mobile they're referring to. Our gut tells us it's probably the US one that we all know and love, seeing how they carry the 5300 presently, and the particular flavor of the 5610 bearing T-Mob's credentials is a straight 2.5G piece across four bands. That's right, no 1700 or 2100MHz 3G here, and seeing how European carriers like 2.5G handsets like they like pokes in the eye with a sharp stick, that pretty much settles it. Cool how we've just decided it's gotta be T-Mobile USA in the post, isn't it? No word on a release on T-Mobile divisions on either side of the Atlantic at this point, though, so we'll keep our ear to the ground.[Via CellPhoneSignal, thanks Marco]

Rejoice Rogers music lovers, as there she is, the least beautiful -- though, rather affordable -- cell in the world, the XpressMusic Nokia 5310. Mobileincanada has spilled the beans on the upcoming release of this handset on Rogers, and for a purported bargain-basement price of $99 bucks, we're sure it'll find an audience in the chilly north. No word on when we'll see this lining the shelves, though we'll drop some hints as soon as we know more. Oh, and if you're hitting up the source for this, you're better off reading en français -- if you can dig that language -- as the translated site's a bit challenged.

  • Mild Nokia XpressMusic 5700 upgrade in the works?

    10.15.2007

Nokia's unusual line of twisty XpressMusic devices must be doing alright in the marketplace because 163.com has a rather convincing series of pictures suggesting that the 5700 -- the series' current flagship -- is about to get tweaked. The headliner here is the bump from a 2 megapixel camera to a 3.2 megapixel autofocus deal; the additional 1.2 megapixels of resolution alone probably isn't a good enough reason to dump your 5700 and upgrade, but autofocus tends to make a pretty significant difference in shot quality. Other changes seem to include some ultra-minor cosmetic updates and a re-upped microSD slot capable of supporting cards up to 4GB. Legit? Not necessarily, but would anyone seriously bother to fake up this many shots?[Via Unwired View]

Ah, here's Nokia's new XpressMusic 5610 and 5310 in the flesh -- well, in the plastic. Right away one can tell the 5310 is quite thin (about half the thickness of the 5610), yet manages to fit a 3.5mm headphone jack, while the 5610 is far thicker and only has the 2.5mm jack variety. Oook. Both feel acceptably sturdy, and we actually do kind of like the left-right rocker on the 5610; we've only had these S40 devices for a few hours, so it's a little early on yet, but we likes what we're seeing thus far. • Nokia announces XpressMusic 5310 and 5610

    08.29.2007

Nokia has added two models to its music oriented XpressMusic series today. The 5310 candybar clocks in at just 9.9mm thick, offers 18 hours of music playback -- through the 3.5mm jack if you're so inclined -- a microSD slot supporting capacities up to 4GB, dedicated music controls, and a QVGA display for €225 (about $307) when it ships in the fourth quarter. Next up, the 5610 rocks a slider form factor and features a nifty slide navigation bar underneath the display, metallic and high-gloss finishes, a 2.2 inch QVGA display, 3.2 megapixel camera, microSD slot, and close to a full day of music playback for a tad more than its sibling, €300 (about $410), with a drop date also in Q4.

Hey, hey, just three weeks after we got word, out pops the Nokia XpressMusic 5700. Just like the XpressMusic 3250, the 5700 gets its multi-media on via a quick flick of the base. This UMTS S60 twister brings a 2 megapixel shooter with up to 2GB of MicroSD storage. The focus here, though, is music so it packs WM DRM support with a "dedicated audio chip" to keep the music flowing, integrated stereo speakers, Bluetooth A2DP, and 3.5-mm adapter to fit your favorite headphones. • Nokia 3250 + 5300 = 5700?

    03.05.2007

Remember the twist-a-riffic Nokia XpressMusic 3250 -- that S60 baddie with the rotating keypad? Apparently there's some legitimacy to the odd form factor, because rumors are swirling that a new 5700 model will update the 3250 with some of the 5300's thoroughly modern elements. The QVGA display, 2 megapixel cam, and UMTS radio are all well and good, but there's nothing like a little S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 to brighten our day in the land of music-oriented mobiles. Since this is far from official, we've got no word on pricing or release date -- but given the rather professional-looking stylized graphic here seemingly advertising the aforementioned model, our money is on it being real (just don't expect it this side of the pond).[Via Slashphone]
