The DIY i-Tablet
Tired of waiting for Apple to come out with a Tablet Mac? Well, you could get off your ass and do it yourself, just
like Joseph DeRuvo Jr. did. He took an iBook and more or less grafted a touchscreen onto it. It took a mighty amount of
soldering, but at the end of the day Joseph had his i-Tablet. A monstrously thick i-Tablet that looks like it's a pain
to lug around, but an i-Tablet nonetheless (and shouldn't it be "iTablet" not "i-Tablet"?).
[Thanks, Rob]

bravo. he rocks. wow. now i want to hack apart my wacom tablets and integrate tactile feedback on my mac monitors. yum.
Amazing. It looks just as heavy, clunky, and non-practical as all the PC tablets out there.
Apparently, there already is an iTablet. That might explain the name...

You're going to have to forgive me I haven't had time for the marketing people to test market the name yet.
Or the lawyers to do a copyright check.
Only kidding people
Really I'm just a guy who got fed up waiting.
Lugging it around is not so bad, I'm a photographer, carrying bags around is part of my job

Do I have to forgive you for not knowing how to post on Engadget? ;-)
Yeah I know I'm a real spaz!
You know I've spent my time doing other things.
But I think I'm getting the hang of it.
Joseph DeRuvo Jr. - Congratulations! Your tenacity and perseverence seem to be paying off! Keep up the good work. Call me when you can.

Would you have detailed instructions on how to put this together? Parts list?
I'm thinking a 12inch iBook would make a great entertainment center controller and having it touchscreen would give it that extra touch.
Thanks!
Joseph, I am glad you managed to carry on your plans end even more you decided to share it with Mac Community. I'm typing these lines from Barcelona, Spain and got your news bypassed through couple of other forums.
I've seen some other cool hacks so far, but yours is pretty in the line with what I had in mind. I think it might be interesting for a Photographer and the rest of the community. Please get in touch with me.
Best regards to everyone and Happy Holidays (Christmas, New Year, Reyes :D )
Sorry for not getting back to any of you but I do not have any cotact info on you. If you would like to contact me feel free

The above's initiative joseph showed has inspired me to stop moping and put up the online petition "Apple, give us a Tablet Mac,
please". In just over two weeks we have collected over 800 signatures, but we need your signature, too :)
The goal is to show Apple (and that means Steve), that there are more than enough potential Tablet Mac users to warrant a product. Heck, some of us even rip their iBooks apart and do it themselves (and a pretty good job at that, too).
If you too want a Tablet Mac - Sign the petition:

You can find out about the current status of the petition here:
