Samsung's 4GB YH-820 MP3 player
We first spotted one of these back when we hit the opening of their
Digital Experience showroom back in September, which is
when this was originally slated to go on sale here, but now Samsung has officially announced the YH-820, their 4GB
competitor for the iPod mini. But only for South Korea, that is, we're still not sure when this'll be out here. And
yes, we know that the YH-820 is going to have to get in line behind the
Creative Zen Micro, the
Gateway MP3 Photo Jukebox,
GoVideo's Rave-MP ARC5.0,
Motorola's M500, the
Rio Carbon,
Dell's Pocket DJ, and
Virgin's 5GB MP3 player (among others) when it comes to
taking on the iPod mini, but the YH-820 does have a few things over Apple's player, like a built-in FM tuner and a
1.5-inch color screen. Plus at 84.5 grams it's actually about 17 grams lighter than the iPod mini, though to be fair,
the YH-820 does have slightly more volume than its main competitor.

are the menu/select/up/down buttons touch screen? it seems like it
I held one of these in my hands today (I work at Napster). It also has a record switch on the side (like its big brother the 920 and forthcoming 925). That is a big benefit over the Mini iPod as well. It's form factor is sweet. .02
Just purchased the YH-820 from Sam's Club and opened the box to find the unit inoperable. Returning it to the store with fingers crossed tomorrow.
Got the 4GB unit, overall looks good, only 2 areas
for comment, 1) when download songs into the unit, it MUST by the "music studio" can't do it by normal file drag & drop, it won't work, sound silly. 2) File name must be in English text, chinese or japanese not recognise, silly
