Tom's Networking checks out Netgear's MP115 media hub

Netgear MP115

Netgear's MP115 wireless digital media player didn't exactly wow us when we first caught sight of it last December, and it looks like Jim Buzbee of Tom's Networking isn't thrilled with it either. Jim put it through its paces, trying out videos, audio and pics, and found that it had glitches dealing with PC firewalls, problems with a lot of video formats and a UI that he charitably describes as "uninteresting." On the plus side, its support for UPnP means you can throw just about any kind of computer on your network and find a compatible server to run, but all in all, it sounds like the $225 street price for the MP115 could be better spent on an audio streamer if music is what you want, or on a dedicated media server if you need to get all your media into your living room (okay, XBMC fans, that's your cue to post!).
