Microsoft and Pepsi planning massive Xbox 360 giveaway
We can't divulge the source of this information (what else is new?), but we've learned that Microsoft is going to be teaming up with Pepsi for a major promotion this fall in which they'll be giving away over 9,000 Xbox 2/Xbox 360 consoles in the weeks ahead of the next-gen console's official release. The contest will use an under-the-cap registration method (much like Pepsi did before with those iTunes giveaways), and supposedly they'll be giving away one console every ten minutes, 24 hours a day, for nine weeks straight.

Interesting... although I'm not an Xbox fan, I would be interested to see how this giveaway ends up happening..
it'll probably be like the iPod givaway in canada that pepsi had in canada before christmas where they gave away an ipod every hour. you had to register your number every hour to get in on each draw. the chances of winning if you only entered your code once were prettymuch nil
I am also not an Xbox fan, but it would be awesome if I did get one. Hopefully I can get one during the bonanza.
Huhgh? Pepsi's playing both sides...
looks like i have a date with a Mountain Dew induced heart attack in the very near future.
woo hoo ! ! !
- thanks engadget
My goodness, they are really going to sell this thing hard aren't they? Certainly more sound and fury than the PSP. We'll see if the ads and promotions will overcome the price tag this holiday season.
Not that it matters to me... still not buying first generation. Knowing me, I'll still have 3 or 4 games to finish on the original XBox by Christmas.
Looks like I'll be tilting bottles looking for a winner for a while...
#4 - When I saw this link, and clicked, those were almost my exact thoughts, word for word.
Microsoft really wants the next generation in gaming. BADLY. They're willing to do anything and break all the "rules" to get it, too... (the MTV thing).
"They're willing to do anything and break all the "rules" to get it, too"
Let's just hope that this time "breaking all the rules" does not mean "using exploding power supplies" in the first generation of Xbox 360's.
I'll be sitting out the launch just in case.
Well, this is a good way to double your installed user base, I guess.

It's funny to me how a .1% failure rate combined with the potential for overheating / fire turns into "exploding power supplies" within a month. In another month, I suppose the PS2's notoriously bad lasers will "fry a satellite in orbit", right?
They are giving away more than they have sold in Japan!

hah hes totally right too, PS2s have a much higher failure rate than xbox. Just ask anyone working the returns desk at FS/BB/etc.
btw whats so wrong about microsoft throwing handfuls of cash at the xbox 2? It just means better hardware and games for the consumer.
They have enough money to go around so its win win.
But I swear my PS2 DID fry a satellite in orbit!
I just wish Pepsi would throw some of that compeition stuff my way. I live out of the USA :( First the $1 billion thing, now this. Oh well. I'll just have to fork out the cash when they are released. Interesting news, though.
Damnit. I like free things. But don't drink soda.
Somehow i doubt this giveaway will be happening in Aus.
That sounds pretty aggressive of them, eventhough I'd like one :P
But I wonder if they'll be giving it away out of USA/Canada, I really wouldl ike a chance entering.
9,000 XBox2s at $300-$500 each is only a few million dollars. This really isn't that much money for a console launch. They'll certainly spend > $100 million advertising it this year, if history is any indicator. Chump change.
You guys are losing perspective. Anyway, how many people drink Pepsi? So your odds are one in few thousand? Big deal. Yet several thousand cans of Pepsi would cost far more than an XBox 2. So if you even buy one (extra) can of Pepsi because of this promotion, you're throwing away your money.
24 pack of Pepsi is 6 bucks..
So, if You have a 1 in 3,000 chance of getting one by drinking one pepsi.
500 divided by 6 is 83 (83 packs..)
83.3333x24 = 2000.
So, if you spend 500 dollars you have a 66% percent chance.
But, say my family only drinks... 100 cans (not cases.) of pepsi a month.
I still have a 1 in 30 chance.
Damned nice, in my opinion, especially if I'll be drinking it anyway.

Just yesturday Microsoft officially announce the Xbox 360 giveaway .. I read this is local my Newspaper. The will as well put on the sale in the X-mas time shopping.. so asume all the Info the giveaway should start a few weeks before.
Now.. I drink only Cokes & sometimes the Pepsi Cola.. hope it may get lucky to get the Xbox some how.
Anyway.. I love freebie even as to now I can not afford to buy the Xbox one.. and I'm concern deeply as a Gamer to get one.
The Freebie will be absolutely a great form to solve my problem with the Xbox 360.. but the Xbox one will still go well with me.
