The Neuros III and the Neuros roadmap

Neuros II

You know Neuros, that firm whose "backpack"-straddled digital audio players received less than a little fanfare since their launch; well, we've heard nary a peep from them lately—at least not since CES when they cryptically announced plans for a 1-inch drive based iPod mini competitor called the Neuros 3 that should have been due out shortly. Uh, so obviously hasn't materialized, but it looks like they're actually still playing the game enough to have a product roadmap which the boys at DAPreview dug up. It includes, among other things, a revamped version called the Neuros III, notable not only for their continued open-source firmware development, but for a bump to a regular ol' 20/40GB 1.8-inch drive, and most importantly, its "audiophile playback features". We're not sure what that's supposed to mean, but they drop the a-bomb again when referring to its DAC, which can't be a bad thing for a device expected to retail for $330 and $380 for 20GB and 40GB models, respectively. So will Neuros be the first to introduce the audio enthusiast's digital audio player, or will they continue pumping out vapor? Well, you know how prone to skepticism we are, so we'll leave it at that.
