The QUALIA 002, Sony's high-end HDV video camera
Sony has added a high-def video camera to its
QUALIA line of high-end,
ultra-expensive electronics. The QUALIA 002, or Q002-HDR1, is essentially a pricey version of their already expensive
HDR-FX1 HD video camera, so how is it
different/better/worth a couple of grand more? It must be the endless prestige and raised social standing Sony promises
from owning a QUALIA product, because apart from a "revised video codec" and some other "additional functions", the
Q002 seems about the same as the HDR-FX1: both support HDV, have 3CCD sensors, and can record in 1080i.

Does this do the truncated HD 1440x1080i? or is it a full 1920x1080?
The FX1 is a fine camera but not pulling off a full "true" 1080i image means post-convert and edit headaches...
Is this the sames as the Z1 which is the semi professional version of the FX1 available in the UK? If it is, its the same as FX1 apart from XLR microphone sockets, can record both NTSC and PAL and a few more features besides. It costs about £1000 more than FX1 at £3000 + VAT.
I was at the Qualia store in manhattan and I asked the guy if they sell any of the qualia stuff and he quickly said 'nope.' Sure, it was nice to see the Spiderman 2 trailer in 1080p on a 120" screen but for 20k it simply wasn't worth it. Sucks for them, but thats when you get when you sell stupid electronics.
i have the fx1, i've been shooting on it for a week or so now. i shot a Q&a last night with a beach tek XLR adaptor out to a shotgun boom. it worked beautifully and mounted fine to the bottom of the cam. this was a much cheaper option for me then buying the z1u because of the onboard XLR ports. the pal/ntsc conversion can be done in post, and some of the other tiny little features really weren't enough for the larger price gap for me on a student budget.
