Report: Ogo to go overseas
Looks like the
Ogo isn't quite o-gone after all. Though Cingular treated the
data-only handheld like a bastard stepchild ever since they got saddled with it as part of their acquisition of
AT&T Wireless — and officially discontinued it a few
days ago — the device may find an afterlife outside of the U.S. News.com is reporting that manufacturer IXI Mobile is
planning to sell the Ogo internationally, though the company didn't provide any specifics. IXI is also considering
re-entering the U.S. market, though such a move seems unlikely at this point, unless a new model includes some of the
features left out of the original Ogo (like, say, a phone).

C'mon, you had such and easy opportunity there for a quick laugh, and you let it get away.
Report: Ogo Ogoing overseas
You get the play on the name, as well as alliteration. What more can you ask for?

You guys know I've been the biggest proponent of the OGO on this board...and yes, I've still got my OGO sitting next to me happily chatting away with people whose corporate firewalls don't block AIM. Honestly, if they offered a new OGO with phone capabilities, I'd be set for life. Well, until I have a robot to play soccer against. :)

If the Ogo had a phone it would have been better than the Sidekick. Talk about bad planning!

They don't realize that Ogo is important for hearing impaired. :-
Blue Balloon @ Dec 19th 2005 1:36AM
Since it's much cheap than Sidekick's rate plan. Plus, it has great coverage than T-Mobile. That's what hearing impaired need that.

That news is missing information: OGO is launched overseas with a marketing campaign of some sort (see: http://www.e-kolay.net/ogo/) here in Turkey. Only plan available is a 24-months contract with US$16 monthly fee and unlimited data transfer. It's the cheapest GPRS price available in Turkey.

I just spent 3 weeks attached to my ogo. and that was because it doesn't have a phone or a camera. I work in courthouses all over the country. I just spent 3 weeks in Federal Court, and for the most part Federal courts don't allow any cell phones, and if they do allow them, they don't allow camera, so forget bringing in you phone if it has a camera. The Ogo is great for this. I had to explain to the marshalls about 4 times, that it wasn't a phone or a camera, and they had no choice but allowed me to bring it in. It was a vital link between me in court, and my out of court coworker.

It turned out to be OGO has been introduced to TURKISH market about 2 weeks ago. I believe it costs about $90 in local currency. I am really curious if their sale will be a big disappointment there as well.If you can't use it as a cell phone even w/headset why bother to keep 2 different units on you.It reminded me a MOTOROLA 'V' series text messaging phone w/out a speaker. That did not do well either.

Ogi is far from dead, and not everyone needs voice as stated above. Ogo has a very viable U.S. Market and following - it was hurt most by the merger between ATT/Cingular and also by limited scope in marketing.
It is much more popular in business and hearing impaired markets than in the orginally targeted teen markets.
