Qtek's new 8310 and 8300 Smartphones
Maybe it's just us, but HTC's candybar line's starting to feel a little stale in the looks department. Thankfully
they're not keeping the innards stagnant—Qtek's new 0.68-inch thick 8310 and 8300 will run Windows Mobile 5.0, have a
2.2-inch QVGA display, quad-band EDGE, a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, MiniSD, and apparently even WiFi. Yeah, we
said freakin' WiFi. Oh, HTC/Qtek, how you taunt us so.

Are these coming stateside any time soon?
I am in the market for a new smart phone to replace my PDA and cell. Saddly, I don't have a TON of cash to spend, so something like the 9500 is out. I would prefer a candybar or clamshell to a Treo-like form factor. Has to have BT, and a camera can be moved to the "bonus fature" category. Does anyone have some suggestions or recommendations?
the one on the left is SO a replacement for the Axim x50 series...or call it the x70??
my advice: wait until more phones come out with the new windows mobile OS (until they work out the first few inevitable bugs) i know waiting sux, but there's going to be a lot of nice smartphones coming out soon (moto q, new nokia 60's + 40's series interfaces, this + other HTC devices) - just wait
The Nokia 6630 is a very good smartphone check it out...

If you want something like this NOW - and don't want to wait until October, then you should investigate HTC's little wonderphone on Cingular - the Audiovox SMT 5600.

Why don't they ever specify the version of BlueTooth? 1.1 is virtually useless it would have to be 1.2 or preferably 2.0 to even consider another phone.
this one is code named faraday and is coming out under cingular on oct 21 if im right...want proof?
here.

It's definitely just you. These phones look awesome. I wish Engadget wasn't so pissy and negative all the time. These look like awesome phones!

I'm not sure why you think that 1.1 is 'virtually useless.' I use it every day and have very few complaints. 1.2 and 2.0 are reasonable upgrades, but they're not really earth-shattering, especially for most of what people do with BT.
You think the phone on the left looks something like a PSP spinoff?
interesting....
gopi.
The reason why 1.2/2.0 is so important to me is that I use my phone for business. It is EXTREMELY unprofessional imho to ever use a phone with static or choppy/delayed connectivity. 1.1 is more prone to this issue unless you have a very clean line of sight and a short distance for many phones/headsets (they very significantly in quality). 1.2 suffers less static/choppy signal even if your phone is in your pocket or more than a few feet away. 2.0 offers less latency. I would like all my calls on my wireless headset to sound as good as a decent wired headset. That is why it is so important to me.
gopi,
Forgot to mention - a few of my friends have different phones with BT headsets and it is VERY frustrating to have a conversation with them because they may not realize just how crappy the connection is. I figure it would be just as annoying for them but they don't seem to notice/care. I'm sure some phones work fine with certain headsets but certainly many don't work well together.
Like the phones, but miss 3G in them...
The only thing missing is a GPS reciever
The phones are Bluetooth 1.2... And my sources say Armin is very close to the dates. Those are just prelim dates, but it should be close to that...

the Qtek 8300/8310 is not in stores at the moment. The release date is set to late october - early november. And to comment 'uncentaur' I would'nt buy the c550, since the newer and much more interesting model is just around the corner.
A good preview of the 8300 and 8310 (lots of pictures) can be found here:
