Sony SXRD additions
We gave you the heads up last week, so this isn't a major surprise. Sony is adding some new 1080p SXRD sets to the Grand WEGA line: the KDS-R50XBR1 and KDS-R60XBR1. Both the 50- and the 60-inch model have three Silicon Crystal Reflective Display panels; one each for red, blue and green colors and start shipping next month.
Sony has increased the pixel density on these sets, so there should be less of a "screen door" effect. These sets boast a killer 5,000:1 contrast ratio and include Sony's DRC, or Digital Reality Creation processing. Technically, these new Grand WEGAs are similar to Sony's Qualia line, but are more reasonably priced at $4,000 and $5,000 respectively. The Qualia prices? They're in the "if you have to ask, you can't afford them" category.
