Canon bolsters SED production investments

Canon logo

Looks like Canon is pretty serious about this SED television concept. They just dropped a ton of yen on two NEC subsidiaries. Canon spent 5.14 billion yen to purchase NEC Machinery, which specializes in production factory automation. Canon also purchased Anelva for an undisclosed amount. Anelva provides vacuum technology expertise that will greatly assist with SED HDTV production.

With all of this money that Canon is investing, you have to wonder if these SED sets will be co-branded between Toshiba and Canon. Not that we buy "name brand" only, it's just that this might be one of the first HDTV lines with a hyphenated name. You know, kind of like a marriage where the bride couldn't decide on a the last name thing?
