Epson's LED lit pocket-projector
Like pretty much everything else, digital projectors are in the process of shrinking down and getting cheaper by leaps and bounds. But a full-color 5.4 x 4-inch device is a little frightening—then you find out it's lit by LEDs and the world makes sense again, and you're not so worried technology's taken off without you. It is just a prototype though, so if you happen to be in Germany for the IFA show, handle Epson's not quite pocket-projector very carefully.

How much would this cost?
I can see these things shrinking to a size, where they can be embedded in a laptop or a portable media-player. That would be bliss.
According to heise online a german news site. Toshiba and Samsung have similar devices. With the different that their devices should be available at the end of this year. For only 1000 Euro.
Yeah, really looking forward to these in my hand ;)
I can use this to watch movies from my iPod video!
Mitsubishi already makes these using DLP technology. http://www.mitsubishi-presentations.com/proj_pocket.asp
Bah... Clinton already beat me to it. We were going to buy the Mitsubishi if it did XGA, but 800x600 causes too many hassles. Its really a very specialized device and pretty impractical for most uses--since it cant project very large and is terribly dim.
One hopes that Epsons venture into the mini-projector world carries with it more light than Mitsubishi's 250 lumen product--250 just isn't enough if there's any kind of light in the room.
That looks photoshopped if you ask me
It looks very photoshopped. Why would she hold it like that?
I´ve been waiting for the Mitsubishi one for ages. It was supposed to be available in July...
I'll watch movies on the wall with this device!!!
Is it possible to build LED based projectors that throw off enough luminescence to replace the current home movie projectors?
If one LEd won't throw enough light will adding multiple leds solve the problem?
I would guess it uses something similar to the super-bright LEDs used in automobile lighting and such.
There's five watt Luxeon LED in the market. i hope mini-projector makers will use it as source of light. Single 5W Luxeon LED boast equivalent 120 lumens or more. Think about three RGB LuxeonLED, you got 360 lumens. Much more brighter isn't it...
