1080p Front Projection DLPs arriving soon

Awesome announcement from Texas Instruments today: 1080p DLP chips for front projectors are hitting the market! Up to this point, DLP front projectors were 720p capable at best; most of the lower priced models only output 480p. Almost 70% of the front projectors on the market are DLP-based chips and this development is likely to further strengthen the DLP market share.

We're expecting some follow up announcements from projector manufacturers on actual units that will utilize the new chip. For the moment, all we can do is wait, anticipate, and drool. With most 720p units priced well into the $4,000 and up range, projectors based around the 1080p chip are likely to top five-figure prices however. Hopefully, this will help drive the 720p-based units down in price.
