eMachines updates lineup, including $600 Media Center PC

eMachines T6524 Media Center PC

Gateway likes to roll out updates for their eMachines in one fell swoop, and they sure managed to get a swoop going on here with five 64-bit desktops, a Wal-Mart only laptop, and a 17-inch LCD display. As far as desktops go, the specs have been changed but the prices remain the same. Starting out at $339 (after rebate) for a bare-bones AMD Sempron system, the machines ramp up to the $599 (after rebate) T6524 Media Center sporting a gig of ram and an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ processor. It's only a minor processor bump from the T6520 we saw in June, but it's still a pretty good deal. On the laptop front, the eMachines W4605 runs an AMD Sempron 2800+ processor and 512MB of DDR memory. The notebook also has integrated 802.11b/g, FireWire and a 4-in-1 card reader. It's pretty portable at 1.1 inches thick and 5.5 pounds, but the 15-inch XGA non-widescreen display is nothing to write home about. Should be available at a Wal-Mart near you for $799 (after rebate of course). As regards to the 17-inch LCD for you desktop, the specs are blah (450:1 contrast ratio, 16ms response time) but the price is right at $269 (after mr. rebate strikes again).
