CMO's QFHD 56-inch LCD display
Hi-def schmi-def. Chi Mei Optoelectronics just upped the ante with their 56-inch quad full high-definition (QFHD)
display, rocking a 3840x2160 resolution—8.29 million pixels for those of you keeping track. The LCD display, which they
claim is the highest resolution 56-incher around, is powered by 24.8 million transistors pushing 1.4GB a second of high
resolution goodness. We'll leave it up to you to find enough pixels to run through this thing. There's no word on the
inputs available but knowing that Apple's 30-inch
Cinema Display needs dual DVIs
just to power a measly 2560x1600 we're hoping that CMO has a similar solution that goes beyond just upsampling some HD
content. We don't know the price (we're guessing something along the lines of a crapload of cash) but we do know that
this pixel monger should be available next fall, making it the perfect holiday gift for that certain special Engadget
staff member. Better get saving!

Chi Mei are the people who manufactured Motorola's disastrous range of Windows Smartphones.
I think I'll pass. :P
The IBM T221 is also made by Chi Mei Optoelectronics, http://www5.pc.ibm.com/cr/products.nsf/$wwwPartNumLookup/_T3DG5XX?OpenDocument, with almost the same resolution. They will use the same graphics adapters.
I have a CMO panel in my Videoseven LCD tv, and I'm pressed with the quality. Even for a cheap ass TV as the Videoseven is.
I want one! I wonder what refresh is on this bad boy.
So on the one end we have 99% of all people selling "HDTVs" selling things that can only display 720p and have to downsample any 1080i content on the other end we have people working on much nicer resolutions... how about a nice large-scale movement of consumer-level TVs at 1920x1080 resolution? I think that'd be nice...
Apple's dual DVIs can power 2 30" displays,
2560 x 1600 x 2 = 8192000 which is almost as much as 8294400, so I think it will work with many modern video cards.
You think they'll ever start broadcasting HBO in 2160i/2160p format? lol
