FirstLight portable, folding kayaks

firstlight folding kayak

We've been searching far and wide for an overpriced, never-to-be-used toy to liven up the old Engadget summer house in the Hamptons, and we think we've hit pay dirt with New Zealand-based FirstLight's lineup of folding kayaks. Sure our dock is already stocked with about a million other kayaks, canoes, SeaDoos, and water wings (for the inner city staff), but those all come pre-assembled and lack the challenge inherent in building one's own watercraft. FirstLight offers three backpackable models to choose from, ranging in weight from around 23-pounds to around 28-pounds, and promises a super-quick 15-minute setup. I.D. magazine claims that it actually took two people about 2 hours to assemble the darn thing, but that is neither here nor there. Your main concern should be the two grand you'll have to drop to pick one of these up, although unlike the rest of the junk that you buy, it will take up very little space in your garage once you inevitably stop using it.
