HDTV Mag reviews older DirecTV HD DVR

11

This may be a bit of older news, but HDTV Magazine just released their review of the DirecTV HD DVR. (DTV HR10250) This big guy has been out for just about a year now and was the first of its kind. It is a TIVO based DVR that can record HD from DirecTV, but it cannot do MPEG-4. That is the biggest downfall.

The HR10250 came out with a retail price of $1200. So lets say you are one of the early adapters that live in one of the markets that just got local stations in HD; this box will not receive the new stations. But this box may be a good deal for some people as long as you realize this big downfall.

There are some people out there that do not mind switching out equipment once every couple of year. This box has dropped dramatically with claims by a lot of people that DirecTV will sell it to you for as low as $200. So if you live in a market that is not going to receive MPEG-4 for a long time, this might be a good deal for you. If so, check out HDTV Mags review of it.
