Gateway's FX510 Media Center PC, DX desktops

When we got a preview of Gateway's FX510 last month, it was something of a novelty: Gateway had apparently provided users with the ability to overclock the machine -- no hacking required. Now that Gateway's formally announced the box, we know little more, including the fact that the 510 comes in three different configurations, all with XP MCE, and running Pentium D's at speeds from 2.8 GHz to 3.2 GHz. At the high end, the FX510XL comes with 2GB RAM, 1TB of storage, a dual-layer burner, Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX, and a 21-inch widescreen LCD, for a price of about $3,000. Gateway also announced the DX series, which fits in with the company's historic budget-minded customer base; with XP Home, a 2.8 GHz Pentium D, 256MB RAM, an 80GB drive and a CD burner, the DX110S goes for about $450; the DX210X doubles the RAM and hard drive, adds a DVD burner and a CRT (yes, that's right, a CRT) and goes for about $800.
