We can't for sure confirm that Sony
is in fact launching the following models, but according to Let's Go, the Sony Centre site (which we can't seem to find)
has it that Sony's PMA offering this year to come in the form of another five models: The
Cybershots DSC-H2, DSC-H5, DSC-W40, DSC-W70, and DSC-W100. We
didn't hear anything about the six megapixel
DSC-W30 and DSC-W50
we saw the other day, but here's the skinny on the above models as we understand it: the DSC-H2 has a six megapixel
CCD, 12x optical zoom, Steady Shot OIS (optical image stabilization), 1000 ISO mode, 3-inch display, and VGA 30fps
video recording; the DSC-H5 appears to be the same device, but with a seven megapixel sensor (both available in May);
the W40 doesn't have much info on it, but would have a 6 megapixel sensor, 2-inch display, and 32MB of internal memory;
the W70 features a seven megapixel CCD, VGA 30fps recording in MPEG-4, and 64MB internal memory (both it and the W40
could see release in March); the DSC-W100 may have an 8 megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom, 2.5-inch display, 64MB
internal memory, USB 2.0, and may debut in April. Oh, and apparently Sony's working on a new digital SLR (or two or
ten) as per their technology handover from Konica Minolta, which could launch in the summer. We know that's a lot to
digest, but hey, we're just trying to get you ready for PMA this month.
Not gonna buy this ever, because i dont want to be stuck buying a memory stick for this one, i already have a pro for my PDA and 2 SD's for ALL my other gadgets. So i relly dont like sony anymore, they want to steal my money.
Big deal, so it uses memory sticks. Any word on the H-2 and H-5 using a Carl Zeiss lens?
Boohoo evil sony with its memorysticks...
Give it a rest already.
I have an SD for one of my gadgets and it (the SD card not the gadget) does not work reliably at all. Have memorystick for the rest of my stuff and have never had any problems with any of them.
Memorystick whining is so friggin tired.
Anyway,
Kinda bummed not to see a new V series cam in that line-up. Definitely one of the best that Sony has ever produced.
The web site with this info is Lets Go Digital (www.letsgodigital.org) - a good site for camera info and reviews
Sounds good to me actually.
I'll have an H5 to go. 3 inch LCD, and 7 megapixels sounds great, wonder what it'll cost.
No.3
Yes, the V1 is still a great camera! I just think the time for bridge cams has finally come - the R1 being one of the last.
I am going to buy the W50 next month, I think that one will be a great addition to the V1 as a simple shooter. 6 MP will be better suited for me than a camera with 7 or 8 MP. I was impressed by the former W-series, but they were to big as to be a pocket-sized alternative for the V1.
By the way, on Sony's German site they say "the new W-Serie [...] now up to 8 MP". Think this announcement is true.
The link below will take you to a page that lists all the models and the DSC-H2, DSC-H5, DSC-W40, DSC-W70, and DSC-W100 are in fact listed, without specs however and just "Available soon!"

I was hoping for a widescreen 4" LCD, oh well...
Why does sony impose its own terms? Memory sticks are terrible. They are slow, big, bulky, confusing when they did the memory stick duo, pro, all this junk. NO one but them uses it. Now they are pushing the UMD for the PSP and Blue ray disc. I hate sony....
Complaints about Sony memory sticks are about as lame as complaining about owning a flashlight with D-cell batteries and not wanting to buy C or AA sizes for other flashlight sizes. For most of you, a simple investment of one extra memory stick is all that is needed. Flash memory card readers pretty much handle all formats. If you're too cheap to invest in a digital camera, just keep buying those disposable ones as that is more your speed!
If you haven't heard, yes it does use a Carl Zeiss lens. Sony street price on H5 is $499.95. Initial review of specs is at

Other models found there as well.

Boo Hoo...wah...
How can Sony steal your money?
If you don't like it don't buy it...is that a difficult concept...?
I have had Sony Digital for 7 years..no problems, memory sticks work great...yea, the new Sonys use a different format, but my old sticks were only 128mb max, the new ones are 1 gig and more, that I like---so I am not complaining...if you buy anything today---tomorrow something will replace it...thats life folks
thanks for listening
Any idea when the H5 start shipping?
