Sony expects first Blu-ray Vaios by midyear
While Toshiba has already announced a price and ship date for its first HD-DVD-equipped Qosmio, the G30, Sony isn't exactly sitting still. At
CeBIT, the company announced that its first computers to come with Blu-ray drives, high-end Vaio desktops and laptops,
would arrive toward the middle of the year. And that's it. No model names or numbers. Not even any mocked up pics of
superdeluxe Vaios showing HD videos thanks to those Blu-ray drives (which wouldn't be too hard to do, given that
current model Vaios, like
the F TV, above, already have tuners and video capabilities). So, er, maybe Sony is kind of sitting still after
all.
Update: No prototypes at the CeBIT booth but at least we learned that the new laptops are about as thick as the existing Vaio BX series, will feature HDMI ports, include a 17-inch display and ship "around September" -- is that still mid-year?

first post!
Will they come with free root-kits? Please, oh, please!??!
Cant wait to see how this whole Blue-ray/HD-DVD turns out.
I just can't believe they're going ahead with two rival formats. They should know that somebody's going to lose (probably Sony after taking a bath on that whole cd-protection thing). There's no way I'm touching either one until the issue is settled. I don't want to get stuck with a bunch of disks that are only good as coasters (laserdisk, anyone?)
I agree with Nathan. Sony is going to take a bath on this. They MUST be having problems with the Blue-Ray drives. Other wise, it doesn't make sense? Sony... not use an opportunity like this to gush over how brilliant they think they are? No way!
No Mock-ups, and constant delays with the PS3. There's a PROBLEM. That's got to be it. Now, they're just trying to save face in front of the other companies and the press.
I hope sony enjoy using some half baked linux install, because there will be NO support for the blueray from microsoft.
Sony losing?
Great, then we'll get that "only 1080i" crap named HD-DVD. Oh.... great! ¬_¬
