Live from CeBIT: NEC's PaPeRo robot for home
Apparently, things
didn’t go so well with the Health/Food Advice Robot (gasp)
so NEC was forced to rebadge the wide-eyed bot as the Partner-type Personal Robot, or PaPeRo. We saw the little guy on
display at CeBIT and no doubt, he’s cute with a wide-range of sensors and image/speech processing capabilities.
However, was it really necessary for PaPeRo to bust out it's ray gun and vaporize that little girl’s lolli while
warbling “warning, gingivitis, warning…” Oh the humanity!

People everywhere will be screaming "OMG! Cute!!!" just before being blasted to dust!

Since its "NEC's PaPeRo robot for home"...does that mean it will be a commercial product?

But can it fix me a Gin & Tonic when I get home from work? That's the sort of thing I want our new robot slaves to be able to do.

poor kids in germany - start smoking so young, what a pity. heard in other countries you arent even allowed to smoke on the street...

yeah, it's cute as hell, but, um... has anybody else stopped to ask... what does it DO? I'm guessing it's more advanced than a furby, so c'mon NEC... What gives?

The PaPeRo pre-dates the healthy food advice bot. I've been following its development for six or seven years now.
I really want a robot that wanders my house aimlessly, whistling to itself, and then comes to tell me that I got an email.

I really want a robot like 343 Guilty Spark, minus the plot to destroy all sentient life in the galaxy.
It would fly around humming to itself, taking care of my place, and be pretty awesome for conversation.
JakeH @ Mar 14th 2006 9:34AM
Yeah, Dan is right. PaPeRo was modified into the health-bot, not the other way around.

You know, I didn't even notice the robot. I saw the "lollie" sticking out of that girls mouth and felt I had to comment. That would have been BAD marketing for whoever took the picture.
Mike Van Plew @ Mar 14th 2006 2:37PM
It doesn't look like it could serve anything! it has no arms!! reminds me of one of those bump 'n' go toy robots, lights and sounds. I'll wait till they come up with a full service robot that can do the chores!
At least ROBOSAPIAN has arms and hands and can FART!
Chris @ Mar 14th 2006 4:36PM
That bot looks just like "Rosie" from The Jetsons.

Rodney @ Feb 17th 2008 11:32AM

Mimi @ Jun 27th 2008 3:06AM
One, no she is not smoking. I am sure they do not allow smoking in CeBIT even more with very important robotics around the place, and if you read carefully you would of noticed that the person typing this mention's the girls lolli pop being sensored by the robot for gingivitis and all those icky things adults don't want their kids having.
