Ultra-Multi: the new platform for HD discs?

There aren't a lot of details out yet, but apparently, the buzz at CeBIT has turned to a new HD disc player called the "Ultra-Multi," which will be a hybrid unit capable or playing both HD DVD and Blu-Ray discs. There's no word on who might manufacture this -- though LG has already said it plans a hybrid device -- but just the mention of plans for such a player will no doubt cause some sweaty palms at Toshiba (which is shipping its first HD DVD players later this month), where this morning's announcement that Warner Home Video would be delaying its first HD DVD releases is probably just beginning to sink in.

huh, i thought this was going to be about a portable music player, like a next generation mini-disc player. i guess that's over although europeans were still deep into mds a few years ago.
