Palm Treo 700p on Verizon sooner than we think?
You aren't sick of seeing
shots of what is supposed to maybe probably should be the Palm Treo
700p, are you? No? Good, because we'd like to introduce the latest blurry cameraphone set, now with Verizon
branding. Yes, Verizon Palm users, rejoice (tentatively, anyway)! Sprint users, however, should beware; even though we
heard from a pretty reliable source that this thing was getting a Sprint launch about
this time next month, you know how Verizon loves to swoop in with those handset exclusivity contracts. We're not
saying Sprint users won't be getting this thing first, but things are definitely looking up for Verizon peeps.

Well, I was just in a Sprint store up here in the Pacific Northwest, and I casually asked the young guys in the store about the "new Palm Treo". The reply he gave me was that they had just heard that it was going to be in the 3rd quarter of this year.
I have no idea how reliable that info is, but that's the latest info that these two Sprint employees had been given.
So maybe it will be Verizon first the 700p after all...

Let me be the first to declare that this is both sucky and awesome.
Orneta @ Apr 21st 2006 12:43AM
Do people really want a Palm Powered Treo anymore?
Tawee @ Apr 21st 2006 1:03AM
Woo-hooo! I hope it's on verizon. Yes, they are expensive, but I love their coverage and their customer service. Now, come on and release the damn thing already!
six2one @ Apr 21st 2006 1:06AM
i think its awesome. i have a 650 and i love it, but it could use some flavor of high speed data and a better camera (i use the camera all the time for work) behold the 700p! i hope vzw does get it, and im sure they will. i cannot stand the windows mobile platform as you need the stylus wayyyy too much and i like to use one hand for using the phone. i dont use any thick email clients either. i just use http://m.gmail.com and its all i need!
Jico @ Apr 21st 2006 8:10AM
#1, they might have been referring to the treo "800p/hollywood", which treonauts said is supposed to drop 3rd quarter.
I still expect to see the 700p hit sprint networks in a month or so.
Gabriel Lowe @ Apr 21st 2006 8:45AM
I think this is not accurate. How come any pics I take with my Treo 650 VGA camera look better and less blurry than the ones supposedly showing new Treos? I won't believe this until either the pics are better or we have some sort of hard evidence that VZ is getting it first.
Jeff Anderson @ Apr 21st 2006 9:35AM
Doesn't ANYONE carry a REAL camera around with them!!!
clicclic @ Apr 21st 2006 9:38AM
Am I the only human who could give a crap about CDMA? 1 billion people (on GSM) can't be wrong, right? Bring on the GSM version pronto!

I work for a software company, and every verizon smartphone has our software burned into the ROM. We've had Verizon Treo 700p's for months, I carried one around with me for a few days when I was able to snag one from QA. The battery life was atrocious (I don't know how it compares to older Treos, I've never used one). I took some decent pictures, but I value my job so I had a change of heart and deleted them.
Anyway, I'd say the verizon 700p is coming soon just based on the fact of us having them for such a long time, and I'd say we're probably one of the later companies to get them (whole lot of engineering has to happen before getting to 3rd party applications).
B Blomberg @ Apr 21st 2006 11:37AM
"The battery life was atrocious" meaning amazing, impressive OR awful??
Yes, that strange word can have a very different meaning!
BadKarma @ Apr 21st 2006 1:37PM
Atrocious:
1 : extremely wicked, brutal, or cruel : BARBARIC
2 : APPALLING, HORRIFYING
3 a : utterly revolting : ABOMINABLE b : of very poor quality
Blomberg- that "strange word" never has a positive connotation.
B Blomberg @ Apr 21st 2006 2:38PM
The first level of Atrocious can be misused in a positive way, similar to the common superlative "brutal" and a Palm use to have (at least) good battery life, so it hard to tell what he really mean...
1: shockingly brutal or cruel [syn: flagitious, grievous, heinous, monstrous] 2: exceptionally bad or displeasing [syn: abominable, awful, dreadful, painful, terrible, unspeakable] 3: provoking horror [syn: frightful, horrifying, horrible, ugly]
Source: WordNet 2.0, 2003 Princeton University
1. Extremely evil or cruel; monstrous: an atrocious crime.
2. Exceptionally bad; abominable: atrocious decor; atrocious behavior.

You're right. Thanks for the atrocious (meaning happy and positive) vocabulary lesson.
treo007 @ Apr 21st 2006 4:44PM
Now that we're done with the vocab lesson (I think we all know what he really meant), let's start speculating if this thing will have BB Connect.
Sure hope so, but my prediction is that it won't ship with it, but will instead be an update.

I dont think that pics of the phone with the Verizon Logo on the front really means much its just a housing .. i want to see the firmware version and other insurmountable proof before i believe that verizon admits that they failed miserably with the 700w
digdug @ Apr 21st 2006 9:25PM
If you look really closely and squint, you can see the Windows button. It's not the Home key, and it looks EXACTLY like the 700w. I could easily put a picture on my 700w of a Palm screenshot and pass it off more convincingly than this.

#9:
"Am I the only human who could give a crap about CDMA? "
on this particular list of comments... you might be.
"1 billion people (on GSM) can't be wrong, right?"
well... wrong. unless you like to directly compare yourself to the 66% of all worldwide cell-phone users who aren't even on a data-driven network and have no access to services beyond simple voice... most of them are indeed using GSM.
"Bring on the GSM version pronto!"
well... i hope you enjoy your 2.75g phone whenever they get around to it. believe it or not, lots of people actually have the nutty idea that phones should be about more than a sim card (or a "cool looking" penis enlargement)... data rates and call clarity do come to mind.
Will @ Apr 27th 2006 12:35PM
Believe it or not there are a lot of people that still want the Palm OS. Especially Mac users, since there is no reliable way to sync the WM5 os with OS X. So, the 700P is perfect, high speed data, and direct syncing with OS X.

I've been having an email issue with my Treo 650 for a couple of days so I called Sprint technical support this morning for help. At the close of the call, when the tech asked me if they could help me with anything else I asked for info about the rumors of a 700? release for Sprint. She confirmed they are testing and could release a 700 to Sprint users in May (she indicated it was looking more like the end of May than the beginning based on testing). I then through out the golden question... "Will it be a 'p' or 'w' version?" To which she responded, "Definitely a 'w' version." She further indicated they wished they had a 'p' version to release but agreed with me that Verizon will likely maintain a short exclusivity on a 'p' version before it has any opportunity to show up on other providers.
Sprint users... get ready for the 700w coming soon!
