Oh, yes, our old friend Tickle Me Elmo is back, only this time he's totally to the EXTREME, dude! There's a good chance you're already stockpiling these for sale on eBay -- we understand that two or three should be enough for a down payment on that dream home -- but in case you didn't hear, Fisher-Price introduced the new T.M.X. Elmo today. The "X" in T.M.X. stands for both "ten" (the toy is ten years old) and "eXtreme"; the new doll does pretty much the same thing as the oiriginal version -- i.e. it gets all crazy when you tickle it -- it just does it in a more, uh, extreme fashion. Toy industry analysts are already predicting a massive shortage of the dolls, which retail for $39.99 should you be fortunate enough to find one actually on store shelves.

I don't get it. They are on eBay already. Does my local toy store have them? If not, how do they get on eBay so fast? Employees I guess?
Dennis Groom @ Sep 19th 2006 1:52PM
I don't know 'for certain' that this is what occurs, but i've heard that retailers will sell merchandise they don't yet have on eBay and then ship it when they do... could be days, could be weeks, either way they are using your money to make money, nice, huh?

OMFG, thank you for posting this. This has been bothering me almost as much as a mac unveiling. I dont know why but just the fact that they wouldnt let us know what it looked like was driving me nuts. Though I was hoping for some ASIMO style next gen elmo... this is a tad disappointing.
Matt @ Sep 19th 2006 12:48PM
Do they explode?
If not, it's not extreme enough for my child... I guess I'll just have to get him a laptop with a Sony battery...
Brain @ Sep 19th 2006 2:06PM
ohhh snap!

Obviously the Tickle Me Xtreme Elmo comes equipped with twin Norwegian-developed green diode death lasers, which is what pops out of the bottom of the feet. God, like how could you not see that?
Chris Harrison @ Sep 19th 2006 12:52PM
Is it bad that I've bought 5 of these already? Lord, please forgive me.

i always wanted one of these _
why didn't they make one

I'm hereby boycotting any product with any version of "extreme" in its name. There seriously needs to be a changing of the guard in the marketing world.
n8diggity @ Sep 19th 2006 1:23PM
Has anyone seen a video of this thing in action? Post a link!
cottontimer @ Sep 19th 2006 1:48PM
There's a video link at Play Library.

Went to a Target in the DC area this morning 2 hours after opening, expecting they'd have none of these left... yeah, there was a stack ten feet high, and no-one in sight. So much for the big craze... at least my 2 yr old will be happy :)
cottontimer @ Sep 19th 2006 2:04PM
Play Library has another video link for Elmo.

Actually, the X in Elmo TMX is for the 10th anniversary of Tickle Me Elmo. Ok, its probably for extreme too. I just bought 6 of them, I'm gonna hold them until after black Friday when they run out again. I think I might buy another 4 from Amazon before the end of the day.
tyrael @ Sep 19th 2006 4:14PM
I wonder if this is the topic that I submitted? I was able to grab two of these bad boys. Can't wait for my little cousin to get home and play with it. It look fun!
Victor Agreda, Jr. @ Sep 19th 2006 4:26PM
They've been pre-selling these for a while. Cards, coupons, etc. So there's SoME anticipation, and preselling going on. If he's so extreme, where's his colostomy bag?
Cade @ Sep 19th 2006 5:12PM
Of course, because when you think Elmo, you think eXtreme.
JinKazama @ Sep 19th 2006 5:35PM
Well I just figured out how I'm going to afford those diamond earrings my wife wanted. J/k
Seriously though I bet 40% of all these new "EXTREME" Elmos sold today went to resellers.
steve @ Sep 19th 2006 5:41PM
o i remember having a tickle me elmo
they really need to add some new features]

Jesse Delfin @ Sep 19th 2006 6:58PM

Dixonij @ Sep 19th 2006 8:22PM
Right... so I am gonna go buy a new Tickle Me Elmo to replace the one I got rid of ages ago.
Josh Sroka @ Sep 19th 2006 9:20PM
Picked one up for my daughter, they have came a long way in technology since the first one. If she doesnt like it hello ebay
adam @ Sep 19th 2006 9:22PM
Got one for my daughter today. My wife talked me into preordering it a few weeks ago when we were at toys r us. They were totally sold out by end of the day. Thank god for the preorder.

thenson @ Sep 20th 2006 2:38PM
Elmo, won't work the second day. New batteries (2 times ) and still all I get is Ha ha ha, Tickle Elmo again. Dud! Any one else having problems?
Steve Ross @ Sep 21st 2006 12:23PM
OK so I had to knock down 3 kids, two dads, and a pregnant woman but I got the last one.
Now I see there are over 17,000 for sale on e-bay. That's exstreme.
