The LG KE850: touchable chocolate
Little is known about the KE850 from LG, but the folks over at International Forum Design must know a thing or two about it, seeing how they just hooked it up with a Product Design Award for 2007. And hey, with those hot Chocolate-esque looks -- though we have no proof this one'll actually be branded as a Chocolate -- who can blame them? The big draw here, of course, is a 400 x 240 touchscreen that takes the place of virtually every hard button you might find on a more traditional handset, save for Send, End, and a handful of keys on the sides. The posterior reveals a cam, though its specs remain a mystery. Does someone at LG (or iF) want to spill the beans for us?

er, um, a phone thats not even out yet got an award for 2007, which isn't even here yet itself...
wtf...
Hope the battery life is better than the dismal VX8500
looks as smudgy as the PSP. Thank god the PSP isn't a touch screen but this is... Looks like the cloth that is provided in the PSP will be getting a lot more use.
I could be crazy but this is what I see.. replace the LG with Apple and you get the iPhone! The icons on the bottom look very apple like ( spotlight search and using apple's new ui style from itunes ). The wallpaper has the look of the default of OS X's blue one. It's all touch screen based ( supporting apples patent for "touch interface" ). It could come in white or black ( like current chocolate phones do ). LG is known for both CDMA and GSM phones so this could go either way as well. This could also explain why there hasn't been FCC filings for an iPhone as it was filed under LGs name.
Call me crazy.
I thought the exact same thing when I saw the phone! I think we are on to something! I would love if this was the iphone! It is so amazing! I would love it even more if it had a slide out keyboard! lol
i thought the same thing ranch
This will be branded as the Chocolate I have friends in Hungary that do the design work on these(actually they are janitors but that's another story). I believe they will also have MP3/AAC and a 2MP camera. It's little brother is the KE820 which does have a keypad. Some folks have said that this is ALMOST identical to the Apple iphone and that LG actually kinda ripped off the design while Apple was working on it. Apple will start showing it's phone next week so it's not beaten to the punch. The chocolate brand is one of Apples biggest competitors. The Chocolate line will be relaunched after the holidays with the KE800/KG800/KE820 and the KG920 and KE850
Holy shit... This thing looks amazing. At the moment I have a Motorola A1200 (Ming) and really don't want to go back to not having a touch screen, and I want a new phone again. So at the moment I'm thinking about the Motorola Rokr E6 or maybe this thing. Wonder how long, if ever, till it starts being made.
If I'm not able to buy this soon... I might die... I seriously might die.
Would someone please tell cingular to get some cool phones. Razr (vomit)!
i know what you mean. I was just thinking that.
lgvx8300 has the best battery life-16 days with this one with the whole huge screen you probably have to lock the phone every time you put it in your pocket and when you take it out the batteries will be dead
can someone please tell LG to give Apple a call. ive been waiting for a TRUE video ipod for too long.
im used to the smudges on my Chocolate but i still dont like them. but this phone look promising. thumbs up for me.
Looks good, maybe it can be unlocked....
It does look reminiscent of apple products. the spotlight icon is identical to that in the bottom right, the background looks like the standard Mac OSX desktop. I'd be amazed and happily surprised though if this was the iPhone.
Looks like a JV with LG/Prada.

the clock looks very widget-y as well..could it be?!
Looks pretty sweet, I'd buy one for a reasonable price (say under $150 with contract)
I have the LG VX8600 - I have 3 more days to figure out whether I should keep it. Should I keep it or bring it back and wait for one of these from the new series???
I'd keep it. I cannot see it being put into production. Thts just me though..
if this cellphone incorporates a sd card, fits a stylus on the side, and runs java software apps, I'll buy it.
Adding to everyone's comments about this beeing the iphone....I think it is too and i just noticed that the icon in the bottom left corner looks very much like the icon apple is using for their new "spaces" thing on the new OS X Leopard. Oooooohhhh...I really hope this is the iphone!!!
if you look at the other pictures, one button looks identical to the refresh button in safari. just a thought and i agree about the spaces icon. not that im waiting for the iphone or anything...im trying not to get my hopes up.
Ranch - agreed about the iphone.
ZOMG, I did a concept of this phone over a year ago and now they finally made it!!
pics and concept below.

I just did a focus group about two weeks ago for a phone company. They off several bland phones and then this one and another touch screen variant of it. The model they had was non working, and had no branding, so up until now I didn't even know it was LG. It felt very good in the hand though. Interesting to note, in regard to the obvious problem of smudging, they were asking us our opinions of some technology they were calling nano-coating. Not entirely sure how its supposed to work, but I understood it to be some kind of coating that prevents alot of smudging or scratching. Very interesting.
Looks like Nano-Coating will be protecting a lot of screens in the near future.

All I can say ...Is WOW ! Why can`t we get stuff like this in a timely fashion? This looks like what the iphone wishes it COULD be;) It`s the same with GM and Ford. They have way better , cool , tech-loaded models with LOTS of engine choices over in Europe that we can`t even get. Why are we always treated like chopped liver over here?
Am I the only one which dislike the idea about lack of tactile feedback? Imagining writing a sms without looking at the screen with this phone, it would be a nightmare.
Why are people so desperate for this to be the iPhone? Why not just accept this as a potentially amazing phone from LG and leave it at that. Hopefully it might even become that mythical beast "the iPod killer" cos much as I enjoy using my iPod there's so much about it that frustrates me so i'd love something better designed and perhaps LG are the people to do that.
LG-Prada connection? Wouldn't be a massive leap. Loads of room for a fabuluous Prada background ;-P
I'd say iPhone, except for 2 things:
1 - Apple has either contracted to Hon Hai/Foxconn or BenQ-Siemens for iPhone, something the BenQ chairman has been claiming for a while, and the BenQ blackbox concept looked even more iPhone-esqe than this, and...
...the LG/PRADA colab is rumored to be all touchscreen, so this may well be for prada. sorry, apple fanboys and girls, your phone will come soon, but likely not from LG.
wow iphone copied this top to bottom
Hard to believe there's been no new informationon this since December. This could be a big iPhone competitor for other cellular companies to use.
This interface looks as much like OSX as I look like Brad Pitt. Idiots.
well hello brad.. anyway, this is not the iphone. i know that most everyone knows this, but i just thought I'd say it anyway
