Linden Lab releases key JIRA statistics, calls for volunteer

Linden Lab's Rob Lanphier, their "open source busybody" released some numbers from the Public JIRA issue-tracker today as part of an evaluation of ongoing bug reporting/triage evaluation for Second Life .

In the 7 days from 24 October to 30 October (inclusive), 87 issues were filed into the public issue tracker. Of these issues, 1 was misfiled, 13 resolved (or fixed internally), 8 were imported into Linden Lab's internal issue tracker. 65 haven't gone anywhere.

Open source developer Baba Yamamoto observed that the 65 idle issues in the tracker were mostly "vague and not reproducible".

Lanphier noted that out of 2,387 issues in the public tracker, only 542 (that's about 22%) had made it into Linden Lab's internal issue tracker. Lanphier is calling for a volunteer to keep and publish statistics like this regularly, to provide a useful metric to provide encouragement to both Linden Lab and open source developers to improve processing of issues and create improved workflows.
