Gateway's imminent new tablet PC

Amongst the circulating rumors regarding Gateway's fate comes the information that Gateway is looking to update its Tablet PC range with a new model featuring a finger print scanner and an ambient light sensor. All we have to go on at the moment is a PDF manual which unfortunately doesn't list any specifications beyond the standard ports (they're very standard: VGA, Ethernet, PC Card, a Memory Card slot, FireWire, and USB) and the aforementioned ambient light sensor and finger print scanner -- which interestingly, but probably uselessly, doubles as a trackpad when the tablet is in tablet mode. Aside from that you'll note that the screenshots are of the machine running Vista, and not a lot else. Expect this machine to get some sort of C-class designation, which incidentally both Gateway and Acer have used for their tablet PCs.

When I got this story from the Gateway PR dep. they told me to expect it out in time for back-to-school shopping. Check my blog for updates and more details.

12 years ago I was living in Europe and ordered a Gateway desktop for my boss. Top of the line everything. Needless to say there were problems, delays and the customer service experience was on of the worst I have ever received. I bad mouth this company any chance I get. What a surprise that the articles starts about Gateway's fate. That POS company should have been out of business long ago!
And naturally, they won't have changed one bit in the last 12 years
You seriously need to get a grip if you're hanging on to something that happened that long ago
yes let it go, it was 12 years ago. if you want, dont buy a gateway, just dont bad mouth them.
Maybe you should ask Vanna if you can buy a vowel. Or instead why don't you go to yahoo finance and plot Dell vs. GTW(Gateway Ticker) vs. Nasdaq and you will see that GTW has underperformed Dell by an insane margin, but underperformed again the market average as well. Maybe stock price isn't correlated to customer sentiment...
Oooh. So that's where the keyboard is.
lol Well, duh... Its labeled! As for the thing below it... :-P
I love my Gateway's. Never had problemos with them. And their customer service is quite good in my POV.
". . .you'll note that the screenshots are of the machine running Vista, and not a lot else."
You'd probably jump for joy if they demoed Tiger, "and not a lot else."

I am one of the few who have liked their gateway computer. Got one nearly 6 years ago and it wasn't till a month ago that it blew it's psu. I had an extra on had so my sister (uses the comp) was happy. I'm glad to see they are still making SOMETHING and I hope they get bought out by acer because i love acer ^_^
i work for gateway, i believe it will be out late next month/early may...12" screen and all that..
hint...just wait till you see our new all-in-one systems coming out...i must say they look amazing...
This is nice, but I only buy Thinkpads now b/c I NEED to have the eraser mouse. I can't stand the slide pad thingy on 99% of laptops.
The new Gateway, model E-155c has both a pen interface and a touchscreen that you can use anything, including your finger. It's a bit touchy (no pun intended), and is rather inaccurate when using anything but the pen, but it works well.
I was thinking of buying the Gateway CX210X, but I see that this is coming out pretty soon. How will this compare with the CX210X in terms of specs, size and price?
Brian-
Gateway has not yet priced the C200 line. It shoul be smaller than the CX200 line and have simalar specks to the current CX210X, it will have one less USB port.

and a 4:3 screen? wtf - who still uses a 4:3 laptop?
Eh, maybe this tablet from Gateway will be in the realm of portable. The 285 I had was like 7lbs and I can't tell you how many problems I have with their ultraportable.
Funny Ryan - trying hard to get something started about a 12-year old problem with Gateway. Almost worked until he mentioned Dell - and out goes the credibility. Once the Dell Smell is out - boy does it linger. Just like a big ole poo.
Did you know 12-years ago that Dell lied about their web traffic and after all of the media tossed around the story that Dell was selling a million dollars worth of computers a month on the site - they had to correct it - Did you know that about your precious Dell? Do you know why? They finalized (discussed) a contract sale through email - a 5 mil contract and spread that sale over the 5 month time period. Cute, eh? But everyone charged over to their site and thought - wow - what a success. Too bad the site kept crashing.
Man - good ole 12-year old stories ! We should keep bringing up the past because clearly Dell is better than all other computer companies - like that hard drive company in the 80s that shipped bricks to up their shipping count - or the company that sent product to owners (and kept in storage) to up sales volume - or the company that went bankrupt because ... . HEY, I have a better idea - let's NOT.
Wait, the screen is 4:3? Is that final? That's kinda a turnoff - maybe I'll get the CX210X after all.
Yes, some of its features are standard these days (biometric). I expect great industrial design, cool bay features, excellent battery life, and an industry leading swivel 360 hinge. It looks like it will be a bit heavier and can't be categorized as an ultra-portable (unlike the Toshiba R400??). I would expect that this will be on Gateway's website by April 4/5th (I noticed that's when they do their weekly website updates for promos/sales/systems.
Does anyone have the PDF referenced in the first few posts?
I went to a meeting with our gateway rep about 2 months ago and he had a "functioning" model. It was very disappointing, I'm sticking with my HPTC4400.
Good to see Gateway's putting their Tablets on a diet. Their current line is reallllly bulky.
ordered one from gateway but only running windows xp. touchscreen only works on xp not vista. hopefully that will change for the companies sake.
