The Samsung and Intel PC design winner: the Egg
What you're looking at up there is the winner of a recent Samsung and Intel PC design contest in Korea. Those three "eggs" on the tabletop are actually a media player, disk drive, and digital camera. Just place them on top of the bed-tray PC to initiate communications. Nice, a la some Bluetooth 2.1 near-field communications we presume. But seriously, is that Intel Inside sticker really necessary on a freakin' concept? Check out a few more concepts after the break.

The "Turning Lamp" (above) pulled in a second place finish. Pull the string to turn on the PC on then rotate the cube to select PC, music, or movies.

The "B-Membrain" features a beam projector instead of a monitor.

That's a Logitech DiNovo keyboard right there.......hmmmm
Should have went with the cooler Logitech Dinovo Edge keyboard instead though ;)
You beat me to it Ike!!!
I was thinking the same as I looked my keyboard here whilst about to start typing!!
Certainly a novel design, and I bet that Apple try to copy it and the fan boyz claim 'another' Apple 'innovative & exclusive design'. ;o)
Same happened to me (typing on a DiNovo right now).
So let's see, that's a DiNovo painted in white under a white glossy breakfest in bed plate with 3 white & glossy testicals ?
it's a concept sticker!!
White plastic? Looks like a mac clone.
/end sarcasm.
It just looks like an Asgard computer interface. Stargate, anyone?
Asgard indeed, but definitely not Replicator proof.
The first one looks awesome, but those balls are pretty lame, especially for me since I'd probably lose them or my cats will eat them. The second one would be attacked by my cats as well and the third one is just plain ridiculous.
Fishes,
narco.
Ok so we can now assume that the future of PC cases is white with...black trim. And all of the internal components we've come to know and love (like a Hard-Drive) will be in stupid balls ontop of the computer. Give me a 100gb in an egg of that size (I'm calling Bullshit, I think there may be flash storage in that egg, but a disk? Hellz naw son, not at that size) and I'll buy immediatly.
Errr... correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this a concept design show? Ie, a glorified technology fashion show? The point isn't that these are final products being produced tomorrow, but concepts to provide inspiration and motivation for cost conscious manufacturers. The editorial in last month's Maximum PC went on about how we need more crazy stuff like this. If it works, it works, does it have to look like the same darn steel box from before you were born? : )
No. : p
As for the last one, even if it sucks and never works, the fact that it exists kinda rationalizes all that campy old scifi with the elegant futurist styles. The fact that the future from the past may exist is almost scintillating.
Those three 'eggs' aren't like the three sea shells in 'Demolition Man' are they because I never did figure out how those shells replaced toilet paper in the future.
Is it just me, or is there some serious phallic symbology in all of these designs.
Engadget, you defy all common sense. If this is a conept design, wouldn't they want to advertise that they did it with a sticker? If they left no indication of who made the damn thing, what use would it be to their PR?
Mr. Ricker, I guess you've never taken Business 101, or even considered the whole purpose of creating concepts, which is to excite people about the future of your company and drive up stock.
I see that someone is starting to see some good in integrating different concept designs to get the ball rolling. Do those balls look familiar to anyone else? Anyone remember the iSlice concept computer drive that was covered a few months ago? Pretty much the same design as these things. I think it's be interesting to see something like that come to pass. Giving you ultra portability and ease of use.
"phallic symbology" symbolism, my friend, symbolism, but you already knew that thanks to boondock saints.
All of these designs should have failed. Where is the visible implementation of restrictive DRM?!?!?!
somehow i cant see myself typing on the last one
