Kutaragi looks forward to PlayStation 4, 5, and 6

Everyone reading now is likely to be significantly older (and thusly worse at video games) by the time they're actually released, but the legendary departing Kutaragi-san told EE Times, "As a matter of course, I have the vision of Playstation [sic] 4, 5 and 6, which will merge into the network." Proud father of some of the best selling game consoles of all time apparently looks forward to seeing his ideas for PlayStations 4, 5, and 6 all come to be; obviously specifics were nil, and not much more than that to be heard since we're sure it's still all conceptual, pie in the sky stuff right now. But it's still kind of funny to imagine what the PS6 will be like, and just how accurately it will replicate sensory perception over its SIXSENSIS neural-link compared to those totally obsolete last-gen 2020-era consoles.

Well - if Sony can cut costs by spending less money amongst their various studios developing games, and throw it all behind proprietary media formats - which , face it, is what us gamers are all about - they'll have tons of money left over to develop PS4, 5 and 6.

This business model worked a treat for PS3..

This reminds me of those commercials they used to have out for the playstation 2 which showcased the playstation 9 and playstation 12...Anyone else remember the golf ball sized came console that you played around with and you got to see a mermaid?

Highly doubt that's what they have in mind, but someday the PS3 fanboys will get their mermaid.

It's pretty obvious that none of you people work in a design environment. This is just how it works, once a product is out the door the bulk of your engineering staff starts working on the next thing. Don't think for a second that Microsoft and Nintendo aren't in the process of doing the same thing right now.

Dude I hate Sony as much as the next person but get a clue. They are loosing money on each console. Fixing the price will only occur when component (Read BR drives and Cell Processors) come down in price. there is no magic wand to do that overnight. And the controllers.... Of course by then the PS3 will be in the $199 range and I can pick one up and a half dozen other games for the original price of the PS3.

This is not new thats how many companies does just look at apple they are already working in iphone 2 and maybe 3. These machines takes many years to make.

The ps3 is selling ok the reson they aint selling as much as they wanted is becasue of the wii. Noone thought it would go so well for nintendo not even themself(they are even loosing customers beccause they cant make machines fast enough) and in asian where xbox dont sell at all its wii vs ps2/ps3.

You're viewing this from a consumer's perspective. Sony seriously expect to just wait around and see what happens while there are tons of employees on the payroll.

If they want the PS4 to be a good product (or come out at all, for that matter), they need to start research on it right away. A technology company is not like an artist or musician, who can take a little time off after completing a large project.

As for PS3 profits, do you really think that if the PS3 does poorly, Sony will just cancel the PS4? Not likely. Unless the videogame market crashes, there's too much potential profit to ignore.

I think the anti-Sony rhetoric is getting a bit silly. Most of the PS3's current woes are due to to youth: pricing, the number and quality of games and an ugly format war. It's quite likely that all of these will be resolved in the not to distant future, probably in Sony's favour. Sure they have stumbled, but let's keep it in perspective.

Please lower prices on PS3. Most people cannot afford to buy it. Come on 600.00 at Wal-mart. At least lower it to 300.00 of 350.00. Maybe it would sell more.
