WWDC Monday at 10:00AM PST / 1:00PM EST, set your alarms
Monday morning El Jobso takes the stage to discuss Apple products for the first time since the iPhone unveiling in January (no, we don't really count D where he chatted with Mossberg and sat down with Gates). As always, you know where to turn for the whole spread, including real-time blow-by-blow coverage, live photography, and only the largest ring of iBookies taking bets on what Steve's gonna announce with Leopard and the iPhone.

Engadget and Steve Jobs engaged ...
Relationship has already been consummated according to Engadget. Reportedly, the consummation required vigorous cleaning of keyboard, mouse and monitor.
Wedding TBA.
Eden Dwek @ Jun 9th 2007 11:15AM
Now for the wishes which are unlikely to come true:
1. New widescreen ipods.
2. Macs shipping with free leopard upgrades when its available or Leopard available now.
3. The free ipod nano deal in the UK when you buy a mac.
4. Parallels shipping free with Leopard, or Leopard having a paralells style program not a boot Camp style one.
With regards to more realistic stuff, whatever happened to iLife 07!!!!
Ryan Block @ Jun 9th 2007 11:30AM
Riiiight. You know, we liveblog the hell out of every Gates (and Ballmer, and Xbox, and...) speech we can, too! Just wish they'd do more fun product launch events. Here's but a sprinkling:

-all this multi touch stuff is trek technology-
BillGaTES @ Jun 9th 2007 11:24AM
Also vista will be bundled with all new apple products.
brendan Sheehan jnr @ Jun 9th 2007 12:07PM

I've just hanged up my iPhone with Elgran Esteban Jobs (that's his real name and he is from Portugal). He asked me to pass on this as follows:
1. Leopard Demo heavy focus on a novel 3D interface+Spaces+for-dummies Widget development. Backup features will be presented too.
2. iPod refresher on capacity across the line - new 120GB replaces previous 80GB price-slot and 80GB is the new 30GB. 8 and 16 GB Nanos with Orange-color offering.
2. iWork update with novel Spreadsheet program.
3. Aiport Express Extreme with draft N support. Casing redesigned squared similar to current Airport Extreme design.
4. iMac will NOT be launched here people, that's for September au France. nuf of that already.
5. iPhone international available dates announce for September (that's why Esteban is launching 3Mill phones people!) with Vodafone International Partnership and Roger Wireless in Canada.
6. Demo of Third Party iPhone development tools by El Gran Esteban himself.
7. List of greedy labels who have turned un-greedy but bigbrothered Movie rental option added+more studios on the lineup of offerings.
8. 1080p resolution on the AppleTV + 5.1 Dolby Digital Audio update.
9. Flyover on Mac Pro updates and MacMinis. El Estevan asked me to pass on that the stupid comment on the Mini's demise is non-existent.
10. Improved push-email for the iPhone with Yahoo!.

Molly C @ Jun 10th 2007 2:14AM
By your tone, I assume that you're joking, but some of the items do seem believable.
But this is a WWDC, i.e. a "Developers Conference", and all of your items are aimed at consumers rather than developers.
Rather than those things, I'm thinking of iPhone SDK, newly revealed Leopard APIs, etc.
crazyreaper @ Jun 9th 2007 11:54AM
I think Apple will announce they're having a big re-branding and that from now on they will be called Satsuma and to be more eco friendly macs are now gonna come with a Lemon Orchard for free so they they can do away with AC Adapter and batteries and now just run from the current u can draw from a Lemon
Anyone taking bets?
Matt
Joshua @ Jun 9th 2007 12:01PM
You guys know that the fancy WWDC abbreviation actually means something?
Like... WorldWide Developers Conference. That developer slip ain't there for nothin'.
All I want to say is that I just don't make the connection between developers and new iPods. But hey, that's just me.
The Grand Master @ Jun 9th 2007 12:16PM
I agree with you, stuff like iMacs, iPods and the Mac Mini are consumer products, not something I can imagine most devs care about. Pretty sure you guys are not gonna be getting new iPods on monday!
perfectionist @ Jun 9th 2007 2:52PM
I agree: no iPods here.
- Free Leopard with Macs makes sense.
- 3rd party development for iPhone makes sense.
- MacBook Lite is possible, but highly unlikely.
New Macs are more likely to occur in September. Last Sept. we saw a refresh of the entire iPod line, and the same might occur for Macs. It's also right before Leopard and the expected official release of Boot Camp.
Brad @ Jun 10th 2007 1:51PM
no ipod you say...devs only...Oh yeah, they did go ahead and introduce that iPhone thingy last year at WWDC! stupid me, and they DIDN'T let any devs from 3rd-parties touch did they? oh silly me, i must have forgotten all that.
(/sarcasm)
Bambino @ Jun 10th 2007 4:20AM
If you look into the past, WWDC's Stevenotes have had product releases. It's not only for developers, friend. The WWDC doesn't stop when Steve Jobs' keynote is over... it's a week-long event. All the developer stuff starts right after the Stevenote.
Mead @ Jun 11th 2007 7:09AM
Intro of the iPhone was at Macworld, not WWDC.
brendan Sheehan jnr @ Jun 9th 2007 12:01PM
No offence Engadget, but after a year of you bashing on Apple, do really expect every Mac guys to come to Engadget for updates on WWDC?
I myself will stay away from my computer that day and go watch the KEYNOTE VIDEO on Apple.com the following day when the crowds have receded.
Rohit Kapur @ Jun 9th 2007 12:10PM
Wow. Most of the time, all I get to read are comments saying how Engadget is Apple's bitch, and all that we ever get to read is obsequious Apple-affection here, but I guess you went and turned the tide.
Take your pick, guys. Unless Engadget's a leopard (get it? Leopard!) that keeps changing its spots, it's either pro-Apple, or anti-Apple.
Personally, I think they do a bang-up job of reporting on stuff, and their coverage of events is brilliant.
Sometimes, though, yeah, the articles can sound a wee bit biased, but that's not confined purely to Apple, and I don't think any one particular company draws that quality out. I think it's just a glitch in the reporter's "system".
:-)
Keep it up, guys! And thanks for the great coverage!
Ryan Block @ Jun 9th 2007 4:56PM
Bash Apple?
Let me set the record straight here, because even though we've been doing what we do for years, there always seems to be a few people who complain that either a) constantly bash or b) are totally obsessed with Apple, Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, etc.
I can tell you from having read literally hundreds of thousands of comments and personally dealing with thousands of people, those who tend to think this way are often just projecting their own biases. If you think we (and every other tech blog) hate Microsoft, I'd be willing to bet you have some irrational love for that company. If you think we want to see Apple dismantled, same goes. Neither is true, we love both and almost all brands we cover -- that's what keeps us going. But we will always be critical.
Finally, I don't know why YOU should come to Engadget if you don't even want live coverage of the event. But for those that do, pretty much everyone knows we set the benchmark for live tech event coverage, period. Thanks for playing.
brendan Sheehan jnr @ Jun 9th 2007 5:20PM
I'm not playing. Anyway, just cause you say something doesn't make it so.
crazyreaper @ Jun 10th 2007 7:55AM
I dont think ur problem is with Engadget son, u have to realise that mac get alot of posts on here because there are so many romours. All these guys do is there jobs. Also dont forget that Apple pritty much cover every gadget in the mainstream. If Microsoft made more MMP Players, Made PC's Made Monitors, Made Laptops, Made Phones, ect, im sure they would have just as many romours and posts. Apple are setting the bench mark at the moment, everyone is trying to be apple.

"5:00PM - GMT --- 6:00PM - London"
Why aren't they both set to 6pm?
fitinferno @ Jun 9th 2007 12:43PM
How the hell did this post get a high ranking?? It's called British Summer Time and it sets our clocks to one hour ahead of GMT.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Summer_Time
But I guess if you want to have fun hyperventilating about all the consumer products you think you will see magically revealed at a DEVLOPER's conference for an hour prior to it starting...your perogative.
Lee Thompson @ Jun 9th 2007 12:43PM
Its to do with daylight saving hours, or as we Brits call it British Summer Time.
(the irony of that moniker is not lost on me, I tell you)
GMT is the basis for all time calculations around the world, and not everyone participates in daylight saving, so whilst GMT is 5pm, London (and, indeed the rest of the UK) are observing British Summer Time (BST), which is one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
Tim @ Jun 10th 2007 4:28PM
Because London is on Summer time and GMT does not reflect this...GMT has no Summer or Winter time...

Everyone say nothing is going to come out that way great stuff is announced.
Because we seem to jinx stuff whenever we guess what some CEO comes out and says.
How long have we been guessing a widescreen iPod like over a year?
so lets all put our hopes down and pretend to be surprised if something comes out of WWDC.
Jonathan-DBOSS @ Jun 9th 2007 1:09PM
Steve Jobs' pet leopard's getting hungry. I think it wants Apples.
TJ @ Jun 9th 2007 1:16PM
And this is an Engadget user who doesn't have experience in past Apple releases. Leopard has been delayed for quite a while now and any new computer products to be announced on Monday have one of two release options. A) They're released shortly after the announcment or B) There release at the same time as Leopard. My guess has to be choice B and here's why:
Sales in Apple computers has declined in recent months in anticipation for the Leopard release. Why would a customer want to buy a new Macbook today when he can wait until October to get one with Leopard? This would be a dumb move and most Apple customers aren't that dumb.
However, there is evidence to suggest that today's buyers will, in fact, get a free copy of Leopard once it's released. Why would Apple release the upgraded MBPs only a week and a half ahead of the WWDC when they could have announced it then? My guess is that they're trying to move into the Santa Rosa market as ahead of the game as possible. Even so, PC users already know they're getting Vista on their new purchases while Apple users know Leopard is 4 months away. So what's the advantage of announcing the new MBPs now when most of them won't be sold until then? These points may be contradictory but they support my arguement that what you say isn't necessarily true and that you should get your story straight before you make an assertion.
afasfasf @ Jun 9th 2007 1:27PM
i will guarantee that the world "revolutionary" will follow every product that he introduces, which makes me smile...
marketing to the masses :-)
Mr. B @ Jun 9th 2007 1:36PM
Why don't they allow TV coverage for these things?
Chris @ Jun 9th 2007 3:15PM
so the people paying the hundreds of dollars to attend the event will still come.
AndrewNeo @ Jun 9th 2007 2:38PM
They probably do, but TV stations don't think it's important enough / want to do it.
Gene Cowan @ Jun 9th 2007 3:02PM
Because developers pay thousands of dollars to attend WWDC and the keynote, and if any schmo could watch it live for free there'd be no incentive for paying that fee.
cadavg @ Jun 9th 2007 9:17PM
@Chris & @Gene: Why do people still attend televised sporting events? Good seats are much more expensive and the televised coverage is much better. I think that Andrew had a good point and in the future live coverage might be offered.
Mr. B @ Jun 10th 2007 11:19AM
I can understand maintaining the exclusivity of the event, but I'm sure CNBC (who does live text/photo updates online like engadget) would gladly broadcast the keynote.
agfrg @ Jun 9th 2007 2:37PM
Lisbon = 6 PM. We have the British Summer Time too.
I guess that we will see new iMacs because a new computer would be perfect for new products, and I think that this year's WWDC will not be dedicated entirely to Developers and it will have focus for consumer products.
My bet is on new iMacs, iLife and iWork 07, full preview of Leopard (Vista is out, what can they copy?), new MacBook Pro with 12" (PowerBook 12" returns), SDK for iPhone and last but not least, a redesigned Mac Mini because it's a stupid movement to kill the Mini.
Let's see what will happen, because only Steve knows (God doesn't know too, in this matters He's like us!)
