Dell Canada prices the XPS m1330 at CDN$1499
The hottest Dell laptop we've seen in a while just got an equally hot price -- a reader at the NotebookReview forums posted a scanned-in Dell Canada ad that lists the 4-pound XPS m1330 at CDN$1499 (that's about $1399 USD). It doesn't look like you'll be getting an LED backlight for that price, but you will score a T7100 Core 2 Duo, Vista Home Premium, 2GB of RAM, a 120GB disk, and a dual-layer DVD±RW drive, in your choice of three colors: Candy Red, Tuxedo Black, or Pearl White. No word on when these might start shipping, but it's obvious we're getting close.
Update: The m1330 just popped online for Canadian retail.
Update 2: US site now updated. Giddy up!

Not bad not bad.
I was thinking I needed a new laptop too, we might have a winner.
I would suggest a Macbook, but i'm sure you don't like integrated graphics either.
WORD TO APPLE:
A 1000$+ lappie needs better video than the craptastic gma 950. I mean, toss in a Geforce Go 7300 or something, even an "integrated" Geforce 6150. God dang.
Also, why the hell would apple put those wicked 2+GHz C2D's and have still be rollin' GMAs. I would rather have a Core 2 Solo(it if existed) and a discrete GPU.
Why have 2 CPUs and no (real) GPU? It's insanity!
I'd use it for coding and solidworks, so I'm going with a windows machine
and yeah, I know "Macs can run windows now too" and "Parallels is just as good!"
ugh
Zadillo, I understand your frustration, however my rant was directed towards the macbooks specifically, I'm sure many other 1000$+ lappies include weak graphics and they need to GET WITH THE PROGRAM here.
Das, even if you code and whatnot, wouldn't you still want to run RTHDRIBL?
I've never met anyone who didn't want to run RTHDRIBL on their comp. Also, what language do you code in?
i'm glad to see this laptop is on the way for dell. and at an affordable price too. if only they made a 15" version.. then i would be sold!
15" is overhyped, and too heavy. 14.1" is more of a compromise between weight and power.
come to think of it, i could probably deal with a 14.1" screen. 13" just seems too small for my eyes. then again, one could always have a monitor at home for whatever reason if need be.
Are you suggesting that the $1499 ($1399 canadian) base price for the XPSM1330 includes a dedicated graphics card?
I don't see any mention of the GeForce 8400M in that scan. More likely, the 8400M will be an option that will add to the price, just as the XPSM1210 starts off with a GMA950 and can have a GeForce 7400 added for a higher price.
The idea that Apple is the only company selling laptops in the $1000-1500 range with integrated graphics seems a bit silly. Many of the laptops being sold by Dell, Sony, HP, Lenovo, etc. have integrated graphics (GMA950 or GMAX3100).
Yes, there are some in this price range with dedicated graphics as well, but for most of the things people use these base model consumer laptops for, they don't make a whole lot more difference.
But seriously, it's getting kind of tiring reading these complaints as if Apple's the only company that sells laptops in this price range with integrated graphics.
But that dosen't mention anything about the GeForce 8400M its supposed to have. That probably with integrated graphics. (Intel GMA X3100, X3000, 3000 or w/e it's called)
That's understandable though; usually in these Dell ads they list a standard base model configuration, and you can then go to the website and add extra options as you need them.
PERFECT! I was afraid it was gonna be a bit outta my range(+$1800 US), but this keeps it in my game. Im gonna get one. No doubt!
Damn... it only comes in tuxedo black.. I was looking for an onyx balck
Anyone gotten the E-Value code to work? It's a canadian home & office code, but it's not working for me.
Still waiting for the VAIO SZ with santa rosa chipset: LED LCD, carbon fibre lid, separate/hybrid gpu, etc..
I have a Vaio SZ, and let me tell you it is a flimsy piece of crap.
Just to clarify my post above, I'm not being critical of the price of the XPSM1330. I think it's a great price given the improvements over the XPSM1210.
But I suspect that once it is loaded up similarly to an SZ (LED backlit screen, dedicated GPU), the price will be closer to $2000 or so (USD), similar to what a loaded up XPSM1210 cost once you beefed up the specs, which I think is perfectly reasonable, and should make this a great competitor to the SZ (whenever Sony actually does release the Santa Rosa update for it with switchable GMAX3100/GeForce 8400M graphics).
I can't wait to see what they have planned for their Tablet PC.
What the hell is this crap. Dell didnt even come out with the laptop yet so how are they advertising this product to sell already. FAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The m1330 is now also up on the American site...seems to be a fair bit more expensive as well for some reason:

JUST DRIOPPED ON USA SITE!! But the cost is outrageous! Wayyy more expensive than on the candian site! $2k w/ best config! i did the same ion candian site and it came to $1689Ca($1,575.93 US)!!!
Actually, it's available for $1439 CAD, even cheaper. Works out to $1342.85 US.

Wow dell got that product launch wrong... I was able to add the SSD for $300 and not the $600 it is now. On top of that I was able to add the 3 year warranty for -$200 something and accidental protection for $69!
Those prices are WAY different than what is on there now.
The only downside is the bluetooth module addition was broke so I couldn't add it. Let us see if that stays...
Even stranger - the Canadian version seems to be more configurable and has a faster CPU.
That's very unusual. Usually we get the one or two low end fixed configs and have to look across the border to the US site and drool.
Perhaps it's just a glitch in the Dell US site.
No fingerprint reader in canadian version!!. also no WWAN option !! , should i get the US one ? I need both bad . I need WWAN coverage in toronto . any idea ?
