V-MODA Vibe Duo earbuds class up your iPhone
Just when it seemed like the only option for better iPhone earbuds was to make them yourself, along comes the V-MODA Vibe Duo. Sure, it'll cost you, but for exactly $101 you can trade up to the luxury and style of this sweet-ass trio. The earbud / microphone combo features V-MASQUE dynamic drivers, a noise-canceling technology called BLISS, and (according to the propaganda), "vibrant bass" coupled with "vivacious highs". Clearly a package aimed at those with a taste for the finer things in life (like spending almost 17% of the cost of your phone on earbuds), the Vibe Duo comes with a 24k gold plated connector, leather pouch, six pairs of clear silicon fittings (plus two sets of black), and the assurance that you'll look considerably more classy when speaking to your agent.

Only bad part is it's got no mic button like the stock apple ones have :-(
ronin @ Jul 5th 2007 12:11PM
Does this thing have quasi-controls like the default earbuds for the iPhone? Where you can pause and go to next by clicking on the mic? Doesn't seem like it...
kurtschneider @ Jul 5th 2007 12:14PM
I can confirm - NO BUTTON - Just bought a pair to see if these might solve the "ouch my earbuds hurt" syndrome. No luck. I'll wait for the Shure adapter w/mic and button in August for 40 bucks!
Zzephyr @ Jul 5th 2007 1:16PM
Did you have time to evaluate the sound from these ?
booyaka @ Jul 5th 2007 12:16PM
Good luck hearing music through those after Universal leaves. LMAO
andres @ Jul 5th 2007 12:46PM
since when has universal had monopoly over mp3/aac?
...dumbass
Grifty @ Jul 5th 2007 1:03PM
Even if your ONLY source for music was iTunes,(and statistically, for most iPod owners, it isn't even the primary source let alone sole source) Apple still has the other two "big" labels and who knows how many smaller labels on board.
iPod/phone users can just as easily buy/steal the music elsewhere, just as they always have.
And to make your argument even less valid Universal didn't completely back out, they just went to a monthly contract instead of annual.
According to Apple statements they were "still in negotiations" last I checked.
I really should be ashamed for feeding a troll like this...

u mad?
Bart Lee @ Jul 5th 2007 1:36PM
That's always the first thing an iPhone buyer asks: can I purchase music from Universal on the iTunes Store? I can't live without my Mariah Carey.

I have a different pair of V-Moda's, but in general I'm very impressed with the company. They provide great warranty support, have nice-looking and sounding headphones, and at reasonable prices.
Sporkinum @ Jul 5th 2007 12:33PM
The whole headphone with built in mic is just like what I have on my 4 year old Entempo Spirit. You can get away with using normal headphones most of the time, but the 4 connector plug works better. Also, you can use a 4 connector video adapter for camcorders to output audio to RCA style connectors. I would bet that would work on the IPhone as well, since the headphones are the same as my crappy old Entempo.

Yeah, but check out all the bling you get for the money--you barely have to pimp them up at all, lots of shiny out of the box...

I currently have the Shure I2c-m that AT&T stores were selling at launch. I feel that the cord is too long (about a foot longer than the standard ear buds) and don't like that the plug is L-shaped. But the sound quality on them is terrific. Would anyone recommend that I return the Shure's and go with the V-Moda instead? Is the V-Moda the same length as the standard iPhone earbuds?
ajfina @ Jul 5th 2007 1:29PM
Cort is just as the ones that come with iphone no longer than that
ajfina @ Jul 5th 2007 1:24PM
I just got this earbuds and very like them, bass is amazing for those who like bass like I do, the quality is very good , overall sound ill give it 8 out of 10 btw i typed this using my iPhone hooked up on wifi sooo flying , I do recomend this earbuds 20 times better than iPod ones
joeylang @ Jul 5th 2007 1:46PM
Yah i have teh original v-moda vibes without the mic up top and they sound amazing. They were definatly worth the 100 dollars, and i emiled v-moda the other day after i got my iphone because they didnt fit in the hole and they said that they would upgrade me to the new pnes for 60% off the retail price so for 40 bucks i can pgrade mine to the new ones. With the soudn quality, they are still worth 140 dollars, and now i dont have to buy a 20 dollar adapter.
mcdj @ Jul 5th 2007 1:56PM
Anyone seen these for sale in NYC? Both Apple stores are sold out.
Todd @ Jul 5th 2007 2:30PM
I know J&R down by City Hall sells VModa headphones, not sure if they carry the Vibe Duo though.
Smegsone @ Jul 5th 2007 3:38PM
Amazon has these in stock.
rav97 @ Jul 5th 2007 5:16PM
Way too expensive. For less than $100, one could buy a set of Motorola S9 bluetooth headphones. Too bad the iPhone doesn't support A2DP.

For the record, I'm sure the tips are soft and supple silicone (think breasts) not silicon (think microprocessors).

I think breasts are not normally made of silicone, Dan, but thanks for the tit analogy. Your comment is amusing on more than one level. ;-)

finally, some sensible people who can distinguish between a mineral, and a man-made plastic.
mullet head @ Jul 5th 2007 6:51PM
No button! No thanks...
AtmInside @ Jul 5th 2007 7:29PM
According to iLounge:
"The first units in stores include only a microphone; a later version will have an in-line button to play and pause iPhone music, skip forward, and start or end phone calls."
I have the V-Mode Vibes and LOVE them....so I will be getting the new ones when they have music/phone control. No question.
hahne59 @ Jul 5th 2007 7:49PM
Even classier when you get mugged when someone idiot from afar thinks those ear buds have diamonds
john moriarty @ Jul 6th 2007 1:21AM
the mic just sucks and picks up all ambient noise. The sound quality is good to really good. The review is inaccurate though, they come with 3 sets of silicone and 3 sets of rubber. The cording is a durable cloth and the phones look durable. So, worth the buy.
Geedub @ Jul 6th 2007 5:00AM
If you can afford an iPhone, $100 for these V-Moda's are a drop in a bucket. I wouldn't think of using a cheap pair of earphones to listen to music on my iPhone. I've got the original V-Moda's Vibe, Etymotic's ER-6i isolators, Shure E4C & E500PTH. The V-Moda's and the Shure's are my favorites. I may pick up the Vibe Duo if I can find it available in my area. Right now I'm stuck using the Etymotics because they're the only headphones that fit my iPhones recessed headphone connector.
kitten @ Jul 9th 2007 8:45AM
I have the original Vibes as well. I don't understand why people here like them so much. The sound quality wasn't that good. Lots of bass but that doesn't equal good quality. They were lacking in depth and balance, total style over substance. Mine also broke (sound only came out off one side) after about 3 months. Wouldn't touch these with a barge pole. They might be better than the standard iPod headphones, but really the new Shures are what anyone sensible should be getting.
steve @ Jul 13th 2007 2:21PM
when do the new vibes come out like the ones to pause music and answer calls?
