Keepin' it real fake, part LXVII: the Pasen ITouch
Although we've seen countless rips of the iPhone at this point, we've only seen a couple of them in action -- and when we do, it's almost always sort of depressing. Take this video of the Pasen ITouch DAP (which bears a striking resemblance to the Onda Honey VX858 and the I-Fighting FT4021): the poor presenter tries valiantly to show off Pasen's "latest and greatest" -- even deploying the awesome power of Jessica Simpson -- but instead just demonstrates that double-clicking and sound effects are kind of annoying on touch devices. On top of that, at 1:37 he attempts some iPhone-style scrolling but fails, so he just exits back to the main screen. Ouch. Looks like there's a reason the MiniOne is expected to cost $989, eh? Peep the vid after the break.

I dont think he could press any harder on the screen... I bet if you used that think for more than a week you're going to wear out the sensor...
matt @ Jul 26th 2007 9:47AM
or your fingers..
Jerry @ Jul 26th 2007 9:50AM
thing* I guess my fingers must already be worn out as I can't type...
Steven @ Jul 26th 2007 9:52AM
Yeah, that's horrid. Plus he had to hold down the buttons for a second or two instead of just lightly tapping them.
That's a sad, sad, attempt at the iPhone.
seraphaxg @ Jul 26th 2007 9:52AM
That thing's about as responsive as my wife!

Reminder: The mini one is still priced at $199 for the 4GB EDGE version. The 16GB is expected to sell for $500 (but no word about if its the EDGE or 3G+ version). Obviously, these are prices valid in China, but importing one should still be possible. (ebay ?)
Ned789 @ Jul 26th 2007 10:04AM
I think you need to update your cited price of $989 (http://www.negrielectronics.com/product_info.php?products_id=228), not like it matters much since the source has been hit for its reliability.
Darnell @ Jul 26th 2007 12:28PM
I checked that link and it says that Meizu is no longer going to implement a phone. So now it's a contender for the iPod.
I wonder if Microsoft can rebrand this thing as the new Zune...
Ned789 @ Jul 26th 2007 1:08PM
I guess that's what I was saying, take the site for what it is. There has never been any mention of the "telephony" component being removed. Go here (http://www.meizume.com/showthread.php?t=2363) for additional info. The Negri Electronics company is known for selling products and making up their own prices before availability (e.g., the Ultimate i-Mates).

I love how the guy who posted this video on YouTube is like: "It's not an iPhone ripoff, because it's a mp4 player."
Yeah Right

That thing is magically turdlicious.
paloooz @ Jul 26th 2007 11:20AM
Watching that video was like drinking a nice tall glass of bleach.
What a piece of shit, the makers of that thing should be ashamed.
AoMoe @ Jul 26th 2007 11:40AM
One could wish that some research could be done before claiming everything is an iPhone knock off. This is an DAP made by an Italian manufacture. One thing could be said that it is a poor product demonstration, but hey iPhone has revolutionize the world right. An objective view is definitely missing.
ekwmin @ Jul 28th 2007 4:53PM
is it a poor product demonstration or a demonstration of a poor product? I pick the latter.
n_shakuras @ Jul 26th 2007 2:49PM
One could also wish that you would learn the difference between "a" and "an."
That fact that it's not a phone does not mean it's an original product. They ripped the iPhone interace (poorly), they ripped the case and screen concept (poorly), and they succeeded only in making a product that fails slightly harder than an actual iPhone.
mark f @ Jul 26th 2007 11:52AM
Wow! A contender for most useless device of the year. Now the Palm Foleo has real competition!
Silver @ Jul 26th 2007 12:58PM
This must be one of those "twice as good as the iPhone for half the price" devices all the Apple haters have been predicting since the iPhone announcement in January. Yeah, go snatch these up, haters!
Hilarious.
delt23 @ Jul 26th 2007 1:29PM
If that thing ran any slower, it would stop time.
Mitchell Oke @ Jul 26th 2007 1:39PM
