SanDisk's Sansa Clip
SanDisk decided to bring another screen to the clip-on party with its new Sansa Clip. Apple's Shuffle and Creative's Zen Stone have been rocking the form factor for a while now, but only the Zen Stone Plus is much use for browsing through your music collection. The Sansa Clip player sports the same OLED screen that can be found on the Sansa Express, but comes in both 1GB and 2GB flavors, for the lovable price points of $40 and $60, respectively. SanDisk even found room for FM and voice recorders, and the usual MP3 and subscription-friendly WMA support. The Sansa Clip promises 15 hours of battery life, and should be out in September in your choice of black, red, pink and blue.

I don't know why, but I am such a whore for Sandisk's blue LED lighting around the keypad. Very sexy player, might pick one up so I don't have to lug around my Zune all day.
sracer @ Aug 25th 2007 2:52PM
I know why you're a whore for Sandisk's blue LED lighting... because of one of the following:
A. You sleep alone and don't mind the illuminating the entire bedroom every time you touch a key on the player.
B. You don't have a flashlight handy and use the "blue beacon" to find your way to the fridge for those midnight snack runs.
C. You only use your player in well-lit room.s
LOL

Hmmm. That looks more fun to use than my stone but I doubt that I can set up the folders the way I want to. Drat.

From useful device to garbage with the exclusion of one

From useful device to garbage with the exclusion of one < $10 part (expansion slot). Lame.
Hmm... My last post seemed to be messed up by typing "< $10" with no spaces in it. Maybe something to look into, Engadget?
Dan @ Aug 25th 2007 2:52PM
You can't post hearts either, with the 3 and less than. Not that I would do that... cause I'm a man!
*sighs*

Html stripping, probably. They should check for whole tags before doing that, or just do htmlentities or something.
LooP @ Aug 25th 2007 2:48PM
wow, this thing looks great, and a bargain at that. i might be pickin one up when it comes out to use when i don't feel like dealing with my ipod nano locking up and crashing.
Ryhan @ Aug 25th 2007 10:37PM
My experience with sansa has been more frustrating than most.
If you want something similar to/smaller than an ipod nano (i don't like touch-controls), check these out;

Sandisk's "music only" players are very, very nice. They know how to do them well. I really like the m200 series. I like the SDMX series even more and thanks to Woot! I can get a steady supply of them.
This CLIP looks clean and smart. If they have managed to reduce the lumens emitted by the blue LED down to say, oh less than 1,000,000 candlepower, I'd be very tempted to buy yet another player.
Trace The Hedgehog @ Aug 25th 2007 5:31PM
TEH BARGAINZ!! If I didnt already have a Zune i wouldnt have to comebup with an excuse to buy one. I think I'll pick one up.
JohnTitor @ Aug 25th 2007 3:41PM
Wow, when can't SanDisk fit an FM Tuner, Voice recorder, and Screen, now the question is, why couldn't they fit an SD port of some sort
stickmanfc73_ @ Aug 26th 2007 3:13AM
That's what the Express is for.
Trace The Hedgehog @ Aug 25th 2007 8:37PM
Oh yeah, this has internal battery right? Cause I dont want to have to go out and buy batteries everytime it dies. Just recharge. Using replacable batteries is so '00
Ryhan @ Aug 25th 2007 10:45PM
Yes; however, the user-replaceable battery on the sansa250+s are very nice. And yes,you recharge them.
It is very hard to find DAPs these days that let you swap batteries in case it dies.
PS: I bet you have an iPod, and think its far superior to everything else; Check out the Clix2,Cowon D2,or the (dare I say it?) Sansa 250.
MTP, UMS, PFS(dammit) and open-systems are so ABI. F%@# iTunes.
Trace The Hedgehog @ Aug 25th 2007 10:48PM
no, I own a Zune. I dont like ipods much, I have standards. There are so many othe players superiod to it.
And I'm not talking about the 250s. I'm talking about this one, the clip.
Grant @ Aug 26th 2007 10:22AM
this looks like a great cheap little player for the gym.
they probably excluded the SD slot to keep prices down cause this thing is supposed to be cheap. Also, SD requires licensing fees as well.
When a player only costs $40, and $10 part is a huge cost.
manny @ Aug 27th 2007 11:56AM
Sandisk Controls the licenses for SD architecture and format.
ark_v2 @ Aug 26th 2007 1:02PM
Awesome, great battery life (and sandisk doesn't lie about it, I can tell you), screen-equipped, 1 and 2 GB, good design, and for THAT price! It's a winner.
Dave @ Aug 27th 2007 12:05PM
Sansa Clip, UMS or MTP?
PenaltyKillah @ Aug 27th 2007 3:41PM
For some strange, oh-so-surprisingly-tired-of-those-play-next-previous-volume-up-&-down-in-a-circle-already reason, I like this player. Sorry, Creative. I do have to kick the national pride sometimes, especially when you are occasionally releasing players that resemble another one of those Chinese fakes... Hope you do release a revamp of the Vision:M (maybe with a liposuction and a facelift).
Chris @ Aug 29th 2007 11:41AM
For the price, this looks like a real bargain. Does anyone know if it's going to support user-created playlists? Or, simply browsing through based on Artist & Albums?
rAgAv @ Sep 5th 2007 12:38AM
Does it come with good bass effect?
tmon @ Nov 13th 2007 11:03PM
I picked up a Black 2GB version (at Best Buy for $59.99) for jogging, etc., as my zen micro was skipping too much.
I have used both WMP11 on XP Pro and Yahoo Music Jukebox to transfer custom 192kbps WMA playlists to the thing.
It has worked flawlessly, with good battery life.
That it also has an FM Radio and recorder built-in if an added Creative-type of plus. I would recommend this player to anyone else looking for a flash device.
In terms of the headphone jack not being friendly to a right angle connector, I haven't had a problem with this as I clip it to my gym shorts pocket with the headphone connector facing skyward.
Raj Sharma @ Nov 16th 2007 8:01PM
HI,
Sansa Clip is the one based for the gym, joggin and to be used for the sports kinda activities. Its a cute player. I think the price is competitve and with a battery life like that is total advantage to go with. What i know is that SanDisk will come up with the more higher capacity and that too shortly. Be tuned guys i think a lot new to come up from SanDisk.
Njoy!!!!!!!!
