Hitachi announces 0.74-inch thin 32-inch LCD television
While we wait for the commercialization of those crazy-flat, high-contrast OLED televisions from Sony, Sharp and now Hitachi are trying to tempt us with super-thin LCDs of their own. Either way, we're good. Hitachi's 19-mm (0.74-inch) thin 32-inch LCD television was just announced but won't be revealed until CEATEC Japan 2007 gets underway. Not bad... not a scant 3-mm OLED mind you, but not bad. CEATEC kicks off on Tuesday so be sure to check back then for pictures and specs.

Isn't it 'CEATEC japan 2007' and not CrEATEC.. :-/

As cool as a thin cellphone or PDA is, I would rather have a little meat on my HD LCD's...I have cats.

Right on. I caught one of my cats crawling underneath my panel TV once. The clearance from the base to the bottom of the screen is about six inches, and she was pushing it toward the edge of the stand with each wiggle. It was cool since I was right there and amused by the spectacle, but they stress me out when I'm not home.

Wouldn't a tv this thin bend? These ultra thin LCD's are impressive but for the most part is useless. Having one of the six inch lcds out now is think enough.

Since when are objects measured in thinness, and no longer thickness?

My lcd is around a half inch shy of being six inches 'thin' (wtf!?), and I haven't once thought 'man if only this thing was 4 3/4" thinner.' I really don't see any benefits other than cool factor and maybe weight reduction, but even weight reduction is questionable since my thick lcd only weighs in at 35 lbs which is still lighter than my 80's plastic woodgrain 20 incher.
