Gateway CEO Ed Coleman on the outs, replaced by Acer Exec
All semi-good, but not-really-good-enough things must come to an end, and Acer has just announced that Gateway's CEO Ed Coleman is leaving at the end of January, and Acer's Pan America Organization president Rudi Schmidleithner will be filling the spot. Rudi will oversee both companies and be responsible for completing the integration process of the two companies, so perhaps we'll start to see these two act like more of a unit going forward.

Well that sucks... Gateway was finally starting to get their act together. I picked up an ML6720 at best buy a few months back for 400 bucks and the thing is rock solid, and according to Cosumer Reports their customr satisfaction has been steadily going up as well. Then again, Acer has been releasing some quality gear lately too.
We'll just have to wait and see.

I, on the other hand, was hoping that acer would finally drop the axe on these guys.

I liked Gateway, I have a Gateway laptop I bought off NewEgg because it was the one packing the most bang for the buck (i'm a poor man), and i'm quite satisfied with it...
On the other hand, my friend has a giantic 17" Acer, and it sucks... heck, at one year, the keyboard is already missing two keys..

@DarkLight, you shouldn't rate a company based off of a single experience. I owned a Gateway laptop but it fried after 1.5 years (something involving the power supply). My roommate's acer is 3 years old and its keyboard isn't missing any keys

I AM VERY DISPLEASED WITH GATEWAY. I PAID 143.20 FOR A CARD AND PROGRAM FOR MY GATEWAY COMPUTER ON THEIR SALESPERSON'S RECOMMENDATION, TELLING ME THAT THE CARD WAS JUST WHAT I NEEDED. WHEN IT DID NOT WORK, THEY REFERRED ME TO THE MANUFACTURER OF THE CARD, THEY IN TURN TOLD ME GATEWAY HAD SOLD ME THE WRONG CARD AND BY THE TIME ALL OF THIS WAS COMPLETED IT WAS PASS THEIR 15 DAY RETURN POLICY AND WILL NOT EXCHANGE OR REFUND MY MONEY. I HOPE THE NEW CEO CAN STRIGHTENS OUT THE COMPANY, ALLTHOUGH I WILL NEVER DO BUSSINESS WITH THEM AND WILL DISCOURGE ANY ONE WHO ASK ME ABOUT GATEWAY OR ANY PART OF GATEWAY.
