Palm Treo 755p goes live (at last) on Verizon, costs more
Here's a special present to those Palm diehards out there that've been sticking with their Verizon service for the past months, hoping against hope that Palm will notice them hanging out over on the largest CDMA network in the States: the Verizon Treo 755p costs $400 with a two year contract, a full $150 more than you'll pay over on Sprint. The $400 price is after a $50 mail-in rebate, but if you play your cards right and spring for the right data plan you can get the final price down to $300. Obviously there's nothing new on the hardware end of things -- other than that ultra-fancy new paint job and Verizon logo -- so at least you folks know what you're getting yourselves into. Oh, and from the looks of things, this is that unnamed device Palm teased about earlier this month. Sorry to disappoint.

Why in God's name would I want a 755p now on Verizon? I'd much rather get a Centro if I want a stodgy, but cool anyway smartphone. Odds are when the Centro comes to Verizion, it will ALSO cost more. Sheesh.
Thanks Verizon, and welcome to 2006!!!
LAME
I agree, why would I downgrade from my 700P with a 16GB SDHC card soon to be 32GB to a 4GB Micro card? That is the only real difference.
I got mine for $199: $449 - $100 New Every 2 - $100 Advanced Device Discount - $50 mail in rebate = $199. And my NE2 wasn't even up....
$499
-$100
-$100
-$50
= $199?
That's some good discounting...
His math was fine. Your reading, however, wasn't.
What's the "ADVANCED DEVICE DISCOUNT" and how do I get it???
that person doesn't need mobile e-mail. they only get an email once every few hours!
Why does Palm make their devices so bulky?
They don't have the money to redesign ... their $10 per month they make is going into O/S 2 development.
If they just released this, I wonder if they'll release a Centro? I'd buy either one. Seriously. I just looked at my account, and I'm not eligible for their "every two" until the end of March 08.
I'm surprised we haven't seen more of the 500v in the US. I like the idea of an even more compact Centro. This phone, however, is too bulky for my tastes.
It seems to me, the only difference between this and the 700p are the lack of an external antennae. with a device this bulky in the first place, that one difference isnt worth the extra money.
If it's missing any P's will there be a class action suit?
what a letdown
I went to the Verizon Wireless site, and found a few differences between the 755p and its predecessor, the 700p:
Price, with 2-year contract: $349.99 for the 755p vs $399.99 for the 700p, after the $100 online discount
Weight: 5.64 oz for the 755p, vs 6.4 oz for the 700p
Usage Time: up to 264 minutes for the 755p, vs up to 270 minutes for the 700p
Standby Time: up to 240 hours for the 755p, vs up to 300 hours for the 700p
Memory: up to 128MB Flash/32MB RAM for the 755p, vs "n/a" for the 700p
Voice Dialing: available on the 755p, not on the 700p
One other comment - it's the same version of the PalmOS, 5.4.9, on both the 755p and the 700p.
I hate Verizon with every part of me. So expensive, so outdated, so behind cell phone wise, and they have the UGLIEST interface ever by a Carrier. ALL RED. Common, what the hell.
A phone that has been out for more than a year has to be $150 more just coz it has verizon logo on it. Screw yourselves...
nicky, well said. i think verizon is dwelling on the fact that everybody wants them because they are the best, most reliable, customer service, etc.
they have 3G, EVDO which is 3X faster then AT&T's EDGE
but that's not an excuse for being the underdog in new phones and charging the hell out of us.
i saw yourcomments before, and your right in europe they have this long before its coming over here i dont understand why...
Much nicer looking than the Palm Centro.
haha, even when I got my 755p on sprint awhile back, it still felt old. who's lagging more, palm or verizon?
Palm Inc. still around? Still trying to push the limits of customer loyalty by pushing clunky Treos at a premium price with minimal/negligible improvements over the original Treo 600?
I'd call for a general boycott of Palm until they finally get their act together and release something new, but, from the looks of their stock price, no action is required: the market has spoken....
I own a 755p for Sprint. This piece of shit device crashes all the time for no reason and lags when responding to calls. It's more trouble than it is useful. I really recommend people skip this one. I have this because my workplace paid for it and the plan. If I had to buy it...I would not even consider it.
I have the great pleasure of beta testing many devices on various platforms and I am still impressed with the Blackberry Curve. The Curve has everything that a business person needs and everything that the every day person can enjoy. Email, phone, pin-to-pin, camera, Wi-fi, GPS with Garmin software... bla bla bla and to top it off, the Curve is sleek, stylish and does not look like a minature laptop hanging off the side of my hip. But take my word, ask my father as he walks around with his bulky Treo and Tom-Tom.
Flea, the Curve is available only through AT&T, right?
I got mine for $199. Things I'm happy with: Finally combine my separate PC card data plan and phone data plan into a single data plan (not have to pay double), 3G speed, re-use my wonderful TomTom GPS, Office document compatibility, re-use critical Palm apps I use daily, Voice Dialing and best US network coverage (IMHO). The IPhone, BlackBerries and WinCE phones can't do all of these in 1 device.
Some blackberries have 3G, GPS , Docs2Go now... so.. Lets see whos still in business in 3 years .. Palm Stock .. hovering at $7.. RIM Stock $90+? Split a few times already.
