Capcom Digital Day XBLA blowout!

With the risk of sounding mean, Japanese companies rarely pay attention to their audience. At one point Sony execs refused to believe in social gaming and Nintendo thought online play was a fad but thankfully that mentality is changing. One company inparticular is attempting to reach out to gamers, in this age of social media, and that company is Capcom. Recent announcements make us think that Capcom's latest mission statement is to focus on community feedback. With polling consumers for the price-point of Bionic Commando: Rearmed and allowing gamers to beta test the hottly anticipated Street Fighter II HD Remix (SSFIITHDR that is), Capcom's focus is pointed at what their fans want and think. It's a refreshing approach and gamers are taking notice.

Today we noticed the insane amount of footage that came out of Capcom's recent event, Capcom Digital Day. At the event Capcom showcased the upcoming pseudo-expansion Lost Planet Colonies and their upcoming library of XBLA releases. While Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix were all known quantities, Capcom also showed of the HD remake of the classic top-down shooter 1942 which was recently announced.

Jump in for a breakdown of each of the XBLA games and a ton of video starting with the title Street Fighter fans will be clawing all over, for the beta that is, Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3.

Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 is essentially the sequel to the classic shooter MERCS. Having being thrown to the wolves with multiple news stories this week alone, first with a silly name rundown and then with the Street Fighter beta announcement, we didn't expect much from this title. From the trailer above it looks like WotB:C3 should be on our radar. Three-person online campaign co-op, a great 3D translation and three distinctive characters means we won't feel like we're being forced into buying it to get a beta. The beat will seem like what it is supposed to, a fantastic bonus.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is a re-envisioned version of the classic fighting game. With Street Fighter IV on the horizon, SSFIITHDR brings classic characters and environments in beautiful hi-def glory drawn by the folks at UDON Comics. This gameplay video shows off the classic battle of, friends, Ken and Ryu on Guile's classic Top Gun inspired level. One thing to take note is the speed of the gameplay. As fantastic as the game looks we wonder how SSFIITHDR will hold up versus the gameplay of the original.

Bionic Commando: Rearmed is one of the most anticipated releases on XBLA here at Fanboy Towers and as we inch closer to release we get more and more excited. This gameplay trailer shows off the top-down sections of the game. While it looks as great as it usually does we're more down with the music in this video, damn those beats are fresh! Watch as gamers are able to use their bionic arm as a whip to take dudes out and check out those awesome looking (and sounding) explosions. This one can't be out fast enough!

Last but not least is the trailer for 1942: Joint Strike, the HD remake of the classic top-down shooter 1942. Adding new weapons and power-ups, along with multiplayer modes, 1942: Joint Strike is the latest XBLA announcement from Capcom. The trailer shows off the chain-lighting maneuver, a joint strike as it were, where you and a friend can essentially carry lightning between your planes - cutting dudes down with your rope of pain. Yet another classic that looks great from Capcom hitting XBLA!
