DC Universe Online: still being worked on, artists named

Even with Marvel Universe Online now cancelled (and Champions Online rising in its place) there's been surprisingly little revealed about the shadowy DC Comics contender from Sony Online Entertainment.

Last we heard, John Smedley was hoping to deliver the first glimpse of DC Universe Online to the media later this summer, probably at E3. Despite the lack of available details, we can at least be assured that it's still taking shape. According to Austin Craigslist, there are currently positions outstanding for a producer and a senior artist on the Outsource Team.

More interesting, however, is the information one of our readers gleaned from an online feature on the Wildstorm Tour coming to Armageddon Expo in Auckland. Clearly, Jim Lee's Wildstorm Productions studio is still hard at work on the project. Jim Lee was named as Executive Creative Director for DC Universe Online back in February 2006.

Several of the Wildstorm artists are now listed as working (or having done work) on DC Universe Online in various capacities. Carlos D'anda and J J Kirby are both mentioned as having done work on the game, while Michael Lopez is identified as a full-time concept contributor, Livio Ramondelli is likewise named as a Concept Artist, and Oliver Nome is described as 'one of a handful of artists' working on the game. While it doesn't tell us as much as we'd like to know, this confirms that DC Universe Online is very much alive.
